The Ninth Prince pondered deeply. Now that things had come to this, he had no choice but to reveal the truth. Otherwise, if his Fourth Brother were to have a misunderstanding with Nan Yi, it would be Nan Yi who would suffer.
He hoped to get away with it, and that Nan Yi genuinely considered him a good friend, and that he was the only one with ulterior motives.
"Ninth Master and I..." Nan Yi wanted to say that she and Yin Tang were friends and were just joking around.
The Ninth Prince tugged at Nan Yi, interrupting her. Nan Yi's explanation was not as compelling as his, and it was easier for the Fourth Prince to believe her.
He only hoped to minimize the misunderstanding that Fourth Master had about Nan Yi.
"Fourth Brother, Nan Yi and I are just friends. We've known each other for a long time. Eighth Brother, Tenth Brother, Thirteenth Brother, and Xiao Xi all know about this. Just now, Nan Yi fell off the swing and was laughing and joking with my brother. Because she was dressed as a man, I also treated her as a man. I had no other intentions. I hope Fourth Brother can understand."
"Is that so?" Yinzhen narrowed his eyes and looked him over.
He didn't believe his ninth brother's sophistry. They might be friends, but they were not only different in gender, but also in the relationship of uncle and sister-in-law.
The Ninth Brother is so tactless and arrogant. Does he think he's blind? The two of them are hugging each other, their expressions are intimate, and their playful and tacit understanding in their actions doesn't seem like that of just simple friends.
He was about to lash out again when he caught a glimpse of his ninth brother's wife beside him. A thought flashed through his mind: his ninth brother's wife had brought him here for some ulterior motive. He suddenly realized that he couldn't pursue the matter any further.
Yinzhen didn't even reveal Tong's identity, and glanced at the two of them indifferently. The joy he felt a moment ago at wanting to see her vanished completely, replaced by rage.
“We really are friends, otherwise I wouldn’t have gone to his residence for help. I swear, believe me.” Nan Yi held up three fingers.
Yinzhen's eyes narrowed. He was angry that Tongshi was so indecent, embracing a man. He felt a surge of jealousy.
Then she thought, she didn't go anywhere else, but specifically came to her ninth brother's residence, and didn't even go back to the residence, which shows how much she trusts her ninth brother.
Dong Eshi, who had led the Fourth Master to Qingtian Courtyard, was completely dumbfounded.
She seems to have made a huge mistake; he was merely the master's friend, not a male concubine. She was clearly misled.
Judging from the voice, it was clearly a beautiful woman dressed as a man. The tone of their conversation suggested that this woman had a very close relationship with the Fourth Master.
Oh my god, what have I done?
Lady Dong E rubbed her forehead, realizing she had ruined her master's plans; he should be angry with her.
Dong Eshi, equally astonished, took a few steps back, her earlier triumphant demeanor completely gone.
He had thought that by keeping a male concubine, he could use his fourth brother to keep the master in check and make him change his ways, but he was too clever for his own good and ended up digging his own grave.
"Madam, what's wrong?" Her personal maid helped her up.
Dong Eshi shook her head, "It's nothing, just a slight headache. I'll be fine after some rest. It's nothing serious."
Nan Yi was depressed. She could no longer stay in the Ninth Prince's mansion. At this moment, no matter who the assassin was, she had to return to the mansion.
Yinzhen's face was as cold as ice. After leaving the Ninth Prince's residence, he didn't even glance at Nan Yi.
He didn't even let her into the carriage, but made her sit in the front seat of the carriage with Su Peisheng. He always disliked her showing her face in public, but he didn't care at all at this moment.
This time, he was really angry.
Nan Yi didn't try to comfort her. She had a lot on her mind, and lately she had been plagued by bad luck, with one trouble after another, making her extremely annoyed.
Su Peisheng sighed as he looked at Master Tong.
Even though her husband was so angry, she was still in a daze. She didn't even know to quickly coax him, to be sweet-talking, and to say some nice things. Especially with her husband, if she didn't coax him now, he would go back to his study and sulk. Who knows what unreasonable things he might do in the long run.
Nan Yi failed to understand Su Peisheng's true feelings.
Yinzhen, inside the carriage, stared at the figure behind the curtain. If looks could kill, Nan Yi would have been pierced by a thousand swords long ago.
How could she dare? How could she dare?
Holding another man in her arms, smiling sweetly, that casual and genuine smile constantly flashed before his eyes.
Yinzhen was so angry that his back teeth ached. With a wave of his hand, he swept the teacup off the small table in the carriage.
The two men on either side of the carriage exchanged a glance. Su Peisheng gestured towards the carriage, indicating that Master Tong should go in and comfort his master.
Nan Yi shrugged. She didn't want to risk her life while the Fourth Master was angry. Maybe she would be in a better mood once he calmed down.
Su Peisheng escorted her into the courtyard, not Wanyue Pavilion, but the Lan Courtyard where she used to live.
Although servants always cleaned the Orchid Courtyard, it had been uninhabited for a long time, so the house looked empty and deserted. Spider webs were even growing on the roof beams, and the flowers and plants in the courtyard were left untrimmed, with the branches of the trees stretching out haphazardly.
Despite being pampered for several years, her habits have never changed; she can adapt to any situation.
The blankets in the room smelled musty, so she found another blanket and put it on the floor of her old bedroom. She then took out a brazier, put in some firewood and lit it, and sat by the brazier to warm herself.
Nan Yi sat for a while, then took out a few sweet potatoes that he had once stuffed into Qinglian's chest and roasted them.
The fourth uncle is angry, so she'll have to rely on them for dinner tonight.
As soon as Yinzhen returned to the mansion, he went to Weifang Courtyard to see Lady Nian. After dinner, he returned to his study. Not long after, he ordered Su Peisheng to go to Weifang Courtyard to invite Lady Nian to his study.
Su Peisheng thought he was hallucinating. Only Master Tong had been in the master's study. Why invite Master Nian here? What if Master Tong came to see the master tonight and they bumped into each other?
He was so worried about his two masters that he dawdled for a long time without moving.
Yinzhen looked up and saw that he was still there, and scolded, "Aren't you going? Are you waiting for me to invite you to stay for dinner?"
Su Peisheng's lips twitched slightly. Who was he doing this for?
She felt a pang of sympathy for herself, but couldn't help but ask, "Master, Master Tong might come tonight, what do you think?"
