Chapter 241 Eavesdropping

After walking for a while, Nan looked up and saw Yiren leading Fourth Uncle slowly walking over in the distance.

She immediately frowned and sighed, wondering if she could just be left alone for a while, this never-ending nagging.

As he approached, she complained unhappily, "What are you doing now? We're not busy over there."

A smile appeared on Yinzhen's lips. He didn't care about her attitude at all. He told Yiren to wait where she was, and then he took Tongshi's hand and walked down the hillside.

Fourth Master's tolerance for Nan Yi increased again. She was sharp-tongued and had a troublesome personality, but once she was appeased, Tong Shi was very easy to get along with.

He never felt impatient when arguing or bickering with her, or even when patiently coaxing her. Perhaps, for someone held in one's heart, love runs deep without resentment.

"I just saw you. Why didn't you come over? Why did you run away?" As he spoke, he explained why he didn't take her with him. "I know you don't like those kinds of occasions, so I didn't invite you. If you also like horseback riding, I'll take you another day when I have time."

"No, why suffer like that? A walk on the grassland is nice too," Nan Yi said casually, stopping in his tracks and refusing to go any further.

"Are you tired?" Yinzhen asked.

"Okay, let's go over there." She shook his hand. "My legs are sore, carry me there."

Yinzhen shook his head with a helpless smile. The doting look in his eyes could drown a person. He didn't think about whether it was in broad daylight, whether it was in accordance with the rules, or whether he would bump into other people.

As he had done long ago, he crouched down and waited for Tong to climb onto his back before standing up and walking slowly.

“It’s lighter now,” he said. “Eat well these days. The beef and mutton here are quite good. In a couple of days, I’ll go hunt some game for you to help you recover.”

"I'm tired of eating meat every day."

"Don't eat meat, but have Yiren make some soup. Drink a little bit; I see you've lost a lot of weight." Yinzhen's tone couldn't hide his worry.

Nan Yi gave an "oh," nestled her head on his shoulder, and looked at a certain figure in front of her. "That's Thirteen, hiding here all alone, drinking alone."

As soon as she finished speaking, a clear voice rang out, "Thirteenth Prince, look what I brought you, a roasted rabbit, just roasted by the guards."

A pretty woman suddenly ran towards Thirteen.

Thirteen raised the wine pot in his hand at her, and then saw the woman and Thirteen sitting side by side, eating roasted rabbit meat.

Not to mention Nan Yi, even Yinzhen was taken aback.

Nan asked in a daze, "Didn't Thirteen not bring any family members? Who is that girl? They seem quite affectionate."

They shared a pot of wine, taking turns eating roasted rabbit legs; their relationship seemed quite close.

Yinzhen frowned and pondered for a moment, then said in a low voice, "It seems to be Lord Marhan's second daughter by a concubine."

"What?" Nan Yi was genuinely surprised. She patted Yinzhen's shoulder, signaling him to get down. Nan Yi got off Yinzhen's back, squatted down behind the slope, and wanted to hear what the two were talking about.

Yinzhen frowned slightly, clearly disapproving of her eavesdropping. "Yi'er, don't listen to what's improper. Let's go."

"No, you can leave if you want," she whispered.

Nan's eyes were full of questions. How could Thirteen, the second daughter of Marhan, who had only been married to Marhan's eldest daughter for a few years, be getting involved with someone else's youngest daughter?

He planned to have the two sisters share one husband.

Does the Thirteenth Prince's primary wife know about this? If she doesn't, how sad she will be when the Thirteenth Prince brings the woman into his household.

She listened for a while, and then the woman suddenly leaned on Thirteen's shoulder. Thirteen pushed her away, threw down the wine bottle in his hand, and stood up.

The woman was pushed away, her expression quite annoyed. "Thirteenth Master, what do you mean? Don't you want to marry me anymore?"

Thirteen said calmly, "It doesn't mean anything. The master has never promised to marry you. The master is very satisfied with his primary wife and will never take her sister into the family, lest he embarrass her."

"You..." The woman was deeply hurt and stomped her feet in anger. "Thirteenth Master, if you don't want to marry me, why did you treat me so lightly? If you don't give me an explanation, don't blame me for asking my father to stand up for me."

Thirteen gave a mocking laugh. "Flirtatious? That's ridiculous. You offered yourself up, why should I refuse? I don't have to take responsibility, and I can even enjoy the favor of a beauty. Of course I'll accept it with a smile."

This was tantamount to directly accusing the other party of being shameless and throwing themselves at him, actively seducing him. The girl was furious and embarrassed. Being accused like this by a man made her extremely ashamed. She couldn't stand it anymore, so she angrily shoved Thirteen and ran away crying.

Thirteen snorted lightly, completely unconcerned.

He was very disgusted with his wife's half-sister, who always found excuses to come and stay at the mansion for several days at a time, and would wander around in front of him whether there was anything to do or not. He had hinted at this to his wife in private a few times.

The princess seemed to sense something and sent her half-sister home. After returning to the mansion, she was full of anger, probably because her family had said some unpleasant things.

A few days later, this ignorant half-sister came to the mansion again, and refused to leave. She even dared to give his principal wife a hard time, without even knowing who she was.

Thirteen felt he had vented his anger for his wife.

Behind the hillside, Nan Yi, upon hearing this, glanced speechlessly at Thirteen not far away before contentedly pulling Fourth Uncle's hand and walking away.

You run into people everywhere you go. With Thirteen's incident, it doesn't feel peaceful outside anymore. Nan Yi's interest in taking a walk has greatly diminished, and he walks back with Fourth Uncle.

Nan asked Fourth Uncle, "Isn't what Thirteen did a bit inappropriate? It will eventually affect the girl's reputation. In any case, if he doesn't want to marry her, he should just avoid her. The girl still has to get married."

Yinzhen's face was cold and indifferent, and his tone was even more harsh and ruthless, "Why should we avoid it? Thirteenth Brother is a prince, and that woman is obviously trying to climb the social ladder by clinging to him. If Marhan has any objections, then we can just take her in."

What she said was true, but it just didn't sound right to her. In their eyes, a woman was worth about the same as a piece of clothing. They would wear her when they wanted to, and if they didn't want to wear her anymore, they would just leave her in their trunk to collect dust or throw her away.

The second daughter of the Marhan family was also thick-skinned. Wasn't it said that girls in this era were very reserved about marriage? She had a slightly suspicious feeling that she had been tricked.

“That girl was wrong, but Thirteen wasn’t much better. His method was too underhanded. He could have just firmly refused, instead of making the girl feel so embarrassed,” Nan Yiqiang argued.

"She schemed so hard to marry the Thirteenth Prince, doing all these shameless things. If she succeeds in her plan and marries the Thirteenth Prince, she will never have to worry about food and clothing for the rest of her life. What is this little embarrassment?"

Yinzhen's insightful comment.

Nan Yi had nothing to say. What the Fourth Uncle said was right. Others might not know, but she did. Thirteen's future was promising. Was there any better marriage than marrying Thirteen?

She has good judgment; even as a concubine, she'll never have to worry about food or clothing for the rest of her life.

Nan Yi remained silent for a while, unsure of what to say.

Fourth Master thought she was still thinking about Thirteen, so he said, "Why worry about those ignorant people? It's not worth it. Focus more on yourself and don't make me worry."

"What nonsense! Forget it, I'm too lazy to argue with you. We're on different paths, so we can't work together." Nan Yi retorted, shutting up the Fourth Uncle's mouth.

Unexpectedly, Yinzhen chuckled and said, "You're using words indiscriminately again. I always tell you to read more books, but you only like reading storybooks. In the future, stop showing off your limited knowledge in front of outsiders, or you'll make a fool of yourself."

He didn't mean anything by it; after all, a woman's virtue lies in her lack of talent.
