Chapter 264 Wanqing's Passing Away

Nan Yi was inexplicably slapped, and feeling extremely annoyed, he stormed into Wan Qing's courtyard.

"Greetings, Consort." A maid in the courtyard greeted her.

Nan Yi raised his hand, "Take me to see your master."

The maid put down what she was holding and led the way for Nan.

Upon hearing her master's voice, the maidservant inside came out to greet him. "Master, you've arrived. Quickly, take a look at the concubine; she seems to be unwell."

Yi Ren's tone was full of worry as she pulled Nan Yi into the house.

"What's wrong? Didn't you call the imperial physician?" Nan Yi strode into the inner room.

"Nan Yi is here." Wanqing struggled to get up, but she was too weak and fell back down.

"Your Highness, please don't worry, the concubine has arrived." Wanqing's personal maid carefully helped her up and placed a soft pillow behind her.

Nan Yi rushed to the bedside and cried out, "Wanqing, what's wrong with you? Why are you so sick? Where is the imperial physician? Quickly, find the imperial physician!"

“Consort, it’s no use. The imperial physician prescribed medicine, but His Highness can’t take it,” Mingjuan, who was standing to the side, said in a sobbing voice.

"Could the imperial physician diagnose what illness it is?" She couldn't understand. Wanqing, who had been perfectly fine not long ago, now looked pale and thin, haggard, like a flower about to wither, with none of her former beauty.

Nan Yi's eyes welled up with tears, and he sniffed as he asked, "Wanqing, what's wrong? Where do you feel unwell? Tell me, and I'll ask Physician Wu to come over. His medical skills are far superior to those of the imperial physicians in the Imperial Hospital."

Wanqing chuckled and gently grasped Nan Yi's hand. "Don't worry, it's just a minor illness. I'm very happy that you came to see me."

"What minor illness? You still want to hide it from me? You're in this state, and you still want to lie to me. Where is Ninth Master? You're in this state, why isn't he with you... I forgot, he's celebrating his primary wife's birthday right now, you bastard."

Mentioning the Ninth Prince, a flicker of emotion crossed Wanqing's eyes, but it quickly faded into stillness. She let out a long, drawn-out sigh, her gaze falling on the doorway, her voice forlorn, "Nanyi, is it lively up ahead?"

Nan Yi hummed in agreement. "A lot of people came, but I didn't stay long. I've never liked those kinds of scenes; I'd rather stay with you."

Wanqing smiled and looked at Nanyi, reached out and grabbed Nanyi's wrist, leaned over and rested her head on Nanyi's shoulder, and said with a soft laugh, "Nanyi, it is the greatest blessing of my life to know you and Zhenzhen. Even though the courtyard is quiet and cold, with you by my side, there is always some joy."

Nan Yi felt a pang of sadness, but managed a smile. "Then you need to recover quickly, otherwise, Zhenzhen and I will be bored without you."

"Isn't there still Xiao Xi? By the way, I wonder how she is. That Luo Heng is really heartless. Xiao Xi must be heartbroken."

As Wanqing spoke, she coughed a few times. Mingjuan brought her some warm water and fed it to her. Wanqing drank half a cup of tea and then pushed Mingjuan's hand away. "I don't want any more. I'm a little hungry."

"This servant will go fetch the food," Mingjuan said.

"No need, pastries will do." Wanqing leaned on Nan Yi's shoulder again and said sarcastically, "My body is too fragile. It's just a minor illness, but I'm so useless. Nan Yi, I really envy you guys."

Nan Yi remained silent. Her health used to be good, but now, she couldn't say whether it was good or bad.

"Wanqing, take good care of yourself, you'll get better."

"Is that so?" Wanqing smiled bitterly and sighed softly, "But I feel like I'm not going to get better. I'm in a daze all day long, and my body is so weak. I'm really afraid that I will never wake up again."

Nan Yi's heart skipped a beat. "No, I know a very powerful doctor. She can definitely cure you. Don't think too much. You will get better."

Wanqing gave an almost inaudible "hmm," and Nanyi heard soft breathing coming from her shoulder. He knew she had fallen asleep.

So weak, she couldn't even manage a few words. Yiren helped Wanqing to bed and covered her with a blanket.

Nan Yi stared intently at the sleeping woman. Wan Qing's sickly appearance gave her a terrible feeling, and she felt a sudden unease in her heart.

She took a deep breath and called Mingjuan outside to ask her questions.

"Explain clearly, what exactly happened to your master? Wasn't he getting better a few days ago? How come he's become like this after such a short time? What did the imperial physician say?"

Mingjuan wiped away her tears sadly, her eyes red, and said, "Replying to Consort, Your Highness has not been well since your miscarriage."

"Miscarriage?" Nan Yi was shocked to hear this. "When did she miscarry? I don't know, and I've never heard her mention it."

“The concubine came to visit last year, but the master is currently resting in bed,” Mingjuan reminded him softly.

The master said that this matter must not be revealed to anyone, and especially not to Consort Tong or Consort Wanyan of the Tenth Prince's residence.

"Bang!" Nan Yi slammed his hand on the table in anger. "So, the 'women's disease' that your Ninth Master was talking about was actually Wanqing's miscarriage. You bastard, I'm going to settle the score with her."

"No, Consort."

"You mustn't, Master."

Mingjuan and Yiren stepped in together to stop them.

Mingjie slowly knelt down on the ground. "This matter is forbidden to be circulated by the master. Please forgive me, Consort."

Yiren also said, "Master, there are many guests in the front courtyard. It might not be appropriate to go looking for Ninth Master now. Let's calm down first. The most important thing right now is to cure Master Wan's illness."

Nan Yi closed her eyes tightly, took several deep breaths, and sat back down in her chair.

After seeing that Consort Tong had calmed down, Mingjuan continued, "The imperial physician said that it was caused by catching a cold after childbirth, coupled with not taking good care of herself. When the master heard this, he told her to rest well. However, the primary consort is pregnant and busy taking care of the pregnancy. There are many things in the mansion that need to be handled by the secondary consort. Her health was not good to begin with, and with the added strain, she fell ill. She has been taking medicine for many days, but there has been no improvement. On the contrary, her condition has worsened."

"What was your master thinking, entrusting the affairs of the manor to a sick concubine? Did everyone else in Ninth Master's harem die?" Nan Yi cursed angrily upon hearing this.

Upon hearing his master's words, Yiren, who was standing nearby, couldn't help but twitch. Her master became even more ferocious.

Mingjuan shook her head. "The primary wife said she doesn't trust anyone else to handle it. The mistress is thorough in her work and is very familiar with the affairs of the household."

Nan Yi snorted coldly, "I think she did it on purpose. She's busy taking care of her pregnancy, but she's looking radiant and healthy. She even has the leisure to hold a birthday banquet with a full house of guests. She handles everything with ease. She doesn't need Wanqing to lift a finger for such trivial matters."

The principal wife, just because she is the legal wife, can find excuses to torment the concubines; how hateful!

Nan stood up and instructed Yiren, "Go quickly and find Xiaoshunzi, and ask Doctor Wu to come and treat Wanqing. I'll wait for you here."

Yiren, "Where is the Prince?"

Nan Yi: "I'll go talk to them in a bit."

As Yinzhen emerged from the banquet, reeking of alcohol, Nan Yi encountered him in the garden.

"Yi'er, your face?" Yinzhen's face darkened as he touched the still-red finger marks on her skin. "Who did this?"

Nan turned her head away, "Nobody was there, it was an accident." She was worried about Wanqing's illness and pulled him aside to talk about wanting to stay temporarily.

"No." Yinzhen refused outright.
