Yinzhen stood up and walked to her side, glancing at her sideways, and said indifferently, "Let's go." Nan Yi blurted out, "Where is Sister Nian?" She looked up at Yinzhen.
Lady Nian looked at her in astonishment, completely baffled by her intentions. Yinzhen also looked at Nan Yi with confusion, wondering what she meant.
She repeated, "What about Nian-mei?"
"What do you mean, what should we do?" Yinzhen was slightly taken aback. Why bring up Lady Nian?
Nan Yi lowered his gaze, covered his mouth, and said, "Sister Nian, come along too." Ignoring the strange and astonished looks from others, he stepped aside to wait for Nian Shi.
Yinzhen's face darkened, and he glanced at her with a gloomy and slightly annoyed expression. He said, "Whatever," and then left.
The three strolled along the quiet path. As always, Nian Shi stayed close to Yinzhen, while Nan Yi lagged behind. The two in front of them, one tall and one petite, wore similar purple clothes and walked in unison.
He responded lightly to whatever Ms. Nian said, which made her laugh. They were truly a perfect match, like a handsome young man and a beautiful woman, like a couple from a painting. She, on the other hand, was such an inappropriate third wheel, ruining the atmosphere.
Perhaps it was because he was facing the person he deeply loved that his expression was so gentle and mild, unlike with her, when he was often cold-faced, sometimes scolding her, and had even hit her. The two of them glared at each other the first time they met.
On a few occasions, he remained indifferent and unsmiling. She let out a soft sigh, remembering her junior brother, the person who doted on her most in the modern world. They had grown up together, gotten into trouble together, and had never been apart. Her junior brother always infinitely tolerated her, promising to marry her back home, but she, being playful, accidentally ended up in the Qing Dynasty.
I wonder how my junior brother is doing now, whether he misses her. He'd better not find another girlfriend, otherwise, hmph, I'll haunt him even as a ghost.
The two were still putting on a lovey-dovey act. Nian Shi's silvery laughter rang out softly. She was lonely and stunned, watching the Fourth Master talk about love with another woman. Apart from sighing that he was a fool, Nan Yi no longer had the complicated and indescribable feelings he used to have.
The occasional unease she felt gradually faded as she spent more time with him. Her modern perspective reminded her that her husband was her private property and should not be shared with others. If she changed her mindset and treated Yinzhen and his wives and concubines as family, her discomfort gradually dissipated.
She thought that she might have liked him a little before, just a little, not deeply. Such an outstanding man, so different from her senior brothers, it was inevitable to be attracted to him. But what happened later made her realize the truth: she might like him, but he might not like her. Besides, there was someone else who loved her so deeply. She shouldn't get involved and make herself a nuisance.
Nan slowed her pace, waiting for the person in front of her to fade into the distance, before turning onto another path to return to the courtyard.
Yinzhen originally wanted to be alone with her, but to his surprise, she took the initiative to invite Nian Shi to join them. She was quite generous, saying that since they were together, he would let her see.
As he expected, Nian clung to him in every way, behaving more intimately than usual. As if he knew her little thoughts, he cooperated, constantly listening to the movements behind him, but he also grew impatient, feeling irritable and depressed.
She didn't care at all and didn't take the initiative to come forward. As long as she spoke, he would no longer hold her previous rudeness against her.
When he could no longer hear any sound behind him, he stopped and listened intently, but he couldn't sense any movement.
He suddenly turned around, but the quiet path was deserted and eerily quiet. Yinzhen frowned, his heart filled with disappointment and indignation, before he gave a wry smile.
He overestimated his importance in her heart and regretted his actions. He wondered when he had become so childish and ridiculous, and realized that expecting her to be jealous of Nian Shi was wishful thinking.
He hadn't visited her for three months, and she hadn't shown up on her own initiative. It was so obvious, yet he pretended not to see it. It was truly laughable.
"Master, what's wrong? Oh, where's Sister Tong?" Madam Nian asked in confusion. She was clearly doing this on purpose, feigning surprise, but inwardly she was getting carried away and finally angered her. It would be best if she could see the situation clearly and not overestimate herself and compete with her.
Yinzhen turned his head and looked down at her, his face expressionless, unlike his former gentleness. A chill ran through him as he stared at her without uttering a word.
Lady Nian lowered her head guiltily, twisting her hands and stammering, "Master..." The master has found out.
"Xu'er, some things should be left unsaid," he said with a hint of warning. His silence did not mean he was unaware of the warning.
Lady Nian trembled, cold sweat seeped down her back, her eyes welled up with tears, and she stared timidly at Yinzhen, biting her lip and stammering in silence.
Yinzhen frowned, took out a handkerchief and gently wiped away her tears, saying, "Be careful, I have other matters to attend to. Go back to your courtyard by yourself." He slightly regretted his earlier quarrel with Yi'er and wanted to see her, eager to see her.
Seeing that he was about to leave, Lady Nian tugged at her sleeve and whispered, "Will you come tonight, Your Highness?" Yinzhen frowned and remained silent, staring straight at her. Lady Nian trembled slightly and said, "I know."
Yinzhen strode into Wanyue Pavilion and waved away the maids in the room.
Nan Yi leaned back in the recliner, her back to him. There happened to be a low stool next to her where the maids used to sit while fanning her, and he didn't mind, so he lifted his robe and sat down.
Nan Yi glanced at him and said indifferently, "Why isn't Master with Sister Nian? She'll be heartbroken again."
People made of water are like drifting catkins; a single wrong word and tears fall like water from a tap.
As an observer, she couldn't help but marvel at this skill.
She had been married into the family for over three months and was the most popular woman ever. She was the only one favored in the Empress's quarters. The Fourth Prince truly loved her to the core, showering her with gifts like water, and she entered the Weifang Garden.
The primary consort, Lady Nara, hasn't had time to cause trouble for her lately. With a more favored concubine arriving in the mansion, she can't even bother with Wanyue Pavilion anymore.
"Besides making sarcastic remarks, you have nothing else to say to me."
Yinzhen held her hand in his palm, clasped his hands together, and gently touched them to his lips. Wasn't he good enough to her? Ever since she married into the household, the rules of the mansion had been ignored.
He broke the rules several times because of her. She never cared about his feelings for her. At the slightest dissatisfaction, she would give him a cold shoulder or even speak ill of him.
Tong, what am I going to do with you?
"What are you saying? I'm not good with words. If you find that distasteful, my lord, go find some of the more eloquent sisters. I'm sure they'll satisfy you."
Stabbing him was probably her only source of pleasure; if even her right to speak were taken away, that would be worse than death.
Yinzhen's face darkened, and his words were full of sarcasm. Would it cost him a piece of flesh to say a few nice words? Couldn't you just coax me a little?
He simply leaned in, cupped her head, and pressed his lips tightly against her soft, warm lips. Yinzhen bit her hard twice, making her lips swollen and engorged with blood, before releasing her while panting heavily, but still pressing his head against her forehead.
"Let go, are you a dog? It hurts so much." Nan Yi slapped his back hard. "All you do is bully me all day long. I was just lying in the yard, what did I do to offend you?"
With uneven breathing, Yinzhen held her wriggling body, ignoring her complaints, and murmured, "Why are you disobedient? Why can't you be a little more obedient? Yi'er, what am I supposed to do? What do you want me to do?"
He could ignore her for ten days or even three months without her caring at all; the only one who felt lost was him, and the only one who couldn't sleep at night was him.
"Yi'er, be a good girl, okay?" he said in a hoarse voice.
Nan Yi suddenly shook his head. "This is bad."
