Chapter 87 Xiao Xi Visits the Sick

Poisoning, it really was poisoning, but it seemed to be suppressed by medication, and her body was gradually recovering. No wonder she couldn't talk about it; how could she reveal such a secret? She was probably worried about implicating her.

Xiao Xi felt sorry for Nan Yi, thinking that her personality was not right and she was not suited to stay in the royal backyard. In just one year, the deep sadness hidden in her eyes made her uneasy, and she also became unfriendly to the three people in front of her.

Seeing Xiao Xi's unpredictable and increasingly cold expression, the Eighth Prince's heart sank to the bottom, and he nervously took a step forward.

"Xiao Xi, stop being so mysterious. I don't have the patience for that," the Ninth Prince said, his already anxious face becoming even more irritable when he saw Xiao Xi remain silent.

Xiao Xi sighed and said, "She was indeed sick a few days ago and looked terrible, but she's starting to get better now." She kept the fact that Nan Yi was poisoned a secret. Since Nan Yi didn't want to talk about it, she must have her reasons, and she respected her decision.

"I know she's sick, and I sent you to find out why."

"She wouldn't say."

The Ninth Prince glared at her resentfully and said, "Aren't you two very close friends?"

Even though we have a very close personal relationship, we can't force her.

The Ninth Prince choked. Wouldn't that mean he'd made a wasted trip? His tenth sister-in-law said she was sick, and the imperial physician was keeping it a secret. Xiao Xi still insisted she was sick. Fine, he'd just pretend she was sick. But he had to find a way to see her. If he just kept waiting like this, he was afraid he'd be tempted to climb over his fourth brother's wall.

Before the Eighth Prince could ask any further questions, the Ninth Prince rushed out of the Xiao family courtyard like a whirlwind, and the sound of chaotic hoofbeats echoed outside.

The Eighth Prince, worried that his younger brother might act impulsively, said to Xiao Xi, "Miss Xiao, although there is nothing that cannot be said to others, I still hope that you will keep this matter a secret. It concerns the reputation of Nan Yi, so I hope you will be careful with your words."

Xiao Xi nodded, and the Eighth Prince chased after the Ninth Prince. The courtyard returned to tranquility, as if the two favored sons of heaven had never been there.

Three days later, Nan Yi felt much better. Her lover helped her to stroll in the small garden. Before she could finish an incense stick's worth of time, she felt tired and her whole body ached. Her body had been damaged at its foundation. Fortunately, she hadn't given up her martial arts skills. Alas, she didn't know when she would recover.

Nan Yi stood there dejectedly, unwilling to move. His lover thought that her master did not want to go back to the room, so she ordered someone to bring over a low table and set out fruit, snacks and tea. Fortunately, the sun was not strong and felt comfortable on the skin, but it was still a bit hot after a while.

Qingyun, who was standing by his side, saw that the weather was getting hotter and said, "Master, let's go back inside. Your body can't withstand the heat any longer."

Nan shook his head and said, "It's too stuffy inside, so I feel very comfortable here. We'll have lunch here too."

She was going crazy from being cooped up in the house all this time, and now that she could finally get out of bed and move around, she was eager to make up for all the time she had missed.

When Yinzhen entered the courtyard, Nan Yi was already in the garden. She was quietly resting on her side on the couch, while Qingyun and her lover took turns using a large fan to shield her from the sun.

When he got closer and looked at her, she seemed to be asleep, her chest rising and falling slightly, her slender and fair right wrist resting on her waist, and her once perfectly fitting clothes loosely covering her body, no longer the slender and graceful figure she used to be.

A deep sorrow flashed in Yinzhen's eyes, his dark gaze growing even more intense. Nan Yi, who was not sleeping soundly, sensed an unusual, intense gaze in the air. He slowly opened his eyes, raised his hand to shield his eyes, rubbed them, and was quickly grabbed.

Upon closer inspection, Nan Yi recognized him and sat up.

"You've arrived early today."

"Yes, there's nothing going on in the court."

There were no major events in the court, but a lot of minor matters. Worried about her health, he returned to the residence early. Yinzhen sat down beside her and asked, "Are you feeling any better?"

Nan shook his head, "My body aches after moving around for a short while, and I get tired easily."

Yinzhen gasped for breath. Although he had been taking medicine, he still needed time to recover. After a while, he spoke up to comfort him, "It's only temporary. The imperial physician said it will take about ten more days to recover. Just take your medicine and you'll be fine."

"Hmm," Nan Yi seemed not to hear, about to say something, but unexpectedly caught a glimpse of pale yellow out of the corner of her eye. Then, as if she hadn't seen it, she instructed Qingyun beside her, "I'm hungry."

Upon hearing this, Qingyun quickly went to prepare the meal. In no time, a small table of light food was placed in front of him. Unlike before, several dishes of his usual favorite food were also placed in front of Yinzhen.

She deliberately ate slowly, and Yinzhen watched from the side without touching what was in front of him. He would occasionally put food on her plate. When she had almost finished eating, there was still half a bowl of uneaten food in her bowl. Yinzhen did not force her to finish it. He took the bowl and ate it, along with the remaining food in front of Nan Yi.

He was genuinely curious about how the small kitchen managed to always have just the right amount of food, no more and no less.

After the two rinsed their mouths and washed their hands, Yinzhen wanted to help Nan Yi to digest her food, but she didn't move. Her gaze remained fixed on her left side, and he also looked over and stopped.

As if she could no longer hold back, her trembling body swayed precariously, and the handkerchief in her hand was pierced by her fingernails. Who could tell her that what she was seeing was not an illusion?

When the two people in the courtyard looked over, she took a deep breath, her previous shock gone. A soft smile spread across her cheeks as she stood gracefully at the doorway, her beautiful eyes, filled with tender affection, fixed on Yinzhen, with an expression that suggested she wanted to go in but dared not.

Nan Yi turned her head, picked up a cup of tea and took a sip, without inviting her in to sit down. She couldn't learn that kind of hypocrisy; if she didn't like something, she simply didn't like it. It was better to make others feel bad than to make herself feel bad.

Yinzhen whispered something to Nan Yi, then got up to greet Nian Shi. Unexpectedly, Nian Shi had already moved gracefully into the courtyard with her head maid, Xiangxiu.

Seeing Yinzhen rise to greet her, her face beamed with a smile as bright as spring flowers, and her figure moved gracefully like a butterfly in flight. As the two drew near, Lady Nian said softly, "This concubine greets Your Highness. May Your Highness be blessed."

"rise"

Before she could squat down, Yinzhen took her arm, and Lady Nian stood up and leaned lightly against Yinzhen's side, seemingly weak and powerless, yet she exuded charm. At such a young age, she was already so alluring; one could imagine how stunning and captivating she would be in a few years.
