"Ouch," Nan cried out softly, opening her eyes to feel something warm pressing on her head. Turning her head, she saw it was him, lowered her hand, and nestled into his chest. "Finished copying?"
"Hmm," a deep, hoarse voice sounded, her breathing becoming slightly labored. Hard, firm muscles pressed down on her, and there was a noticeable foreign object pressing against her lower abdomen.
Nan Yi stepped back, her voice soft and plaintive, "No, I'm so tired today."
Yinzhen pressed against her and whispered, "Just once is enough." Ever since she came to the study and nestled in his arms, he had been tempted and would not easily let her go.
Nan Yi, upon hearing that it was only once, took the initiative to cater to him.
At dawn, Yinzhen got up to go to court. He saw her snoring softly beside him, sleeping soundly, so he reached out and shook her awake.
Nan Yi was enjoying her food, eating roasted lamb chops. Just as she was about to put one in her mouth, someone shook her. She cried out, "My lamb chops! My lamb chops!"
Before she could even eat the lamb chops, she woke up, glaring angrily at the person in front of her, grabbing Yinzhen's hand as he was adjusting his clothes, "My lamb chops, give me back my lamb chops."
Yinzhen smiled and asked, "Want some lamb chops?"
"Um,"
"I'll bring it to you after court." He lightly tapped her pert nose, and Nan Yi slapped his hand away unhappily.
Seeing that she still hadn't moved, Yinzhen reminded her, "Do you want others to know that you asked me to copy books?"
Nan Yi hesitated for a moment, then said, "No."
"How long are you planning to stay here?"
"?"
It's dawn.
"Oh, ah—I'm back. Where's the stuff?" She slipped on her shoes, got up, casually threw on her clothes, and was about to run out.
Yinzhen suddenly stopped her, his face darkening as he said, "Tie up your clothes properly, what kind of mess is this?"
Nan Yi lowered her gaze and saw the Fourth Master's gloomy face, as if it were about to rain. She smiled awkwardly, hurriedly tidied herself up, not even bothering to fix her hair, and sneaked back to Lan Courtyard with the copied "Admonitions for Women".
That evening, Su Peisheng was still by her side. Nan Yi sat on his lap, swinging her legs and eating snacks. "Yesterday's wasn't enough. The nanny said we were short two sheets and told us to make up for it today."
Nan Yi puffed out his cheeks.
Yinzhen frowned, rubbing his forehead, and asked, "How much do you need to copy in total?" What tasks had he taken on?
"Two hundred portions, Mother did this on purpose, didn't she?" she complained softly.
"Silence!" Yinzhen said with slight anger. His mother was someone she could fabricate stories about, and she was becoming increasingly audacious.
Nan Yi rolled his eyes at the sky and mumbled, "Fine, I won't say then, humph."
Yinzhen pretended not to hear, only tightening his grip on her slender waist. Nan Yi glanced at Su Peisheng beside him, his eyes darting around, "Eunuch Su can write?"
She didn't want to ask this old man for help, but she had no other choice at the moment, so she let him show off for now.
Su Peisheng looked at his master and, seeing no displeasure on his face, could only reply, "Reporting to Consort, this servant knows a little," a very humble answer. Could it be that she had designs on him? He had no intention of copying the "Admonitions for Women."
Nan nodded slightly, reached for Yinzhen's sleeve, and removed the purse from his waist. Yinzhen was puzzled by her casual touch, glanced at the eunuch beside him, blushed suspiciously, and whispered, "What are you doing?"
"Do you have any silver notes? Lend them to me first, I'll return them to you tomorrow." She couldn't find any; her purse only contained gold and silver beans, small ingots, and the like.
Yinzhen stared at her for a moment, opened a drawer, took out a few small denomination silver notes and handed them to her. Nanyi glanced at the drawer, took the silver notes from his hand, took out one twenty-tael note, and returned the rest to him.
"Little Su, here you go," she handed it directly to Su Peisheng. Su Peisheng looked at his master, puzzled.
"Why are you looking at him? I want you to help me copy a book. I'll give you a tip first. It's not a big deal," Nan Yi said, looking at him with dissatisfaction.
Su Peisheng's lips twitched. What he said had come true. He lowered his eyes, knowing that nothing good was coming. However, he had always heard that the master of the Lan Academy was generous, but he had only seen it for himself today.
Yinzhen watched from the sidelines, secretly finding it amusing. She knew how to make the most of everything, even daring to order around his personal eunuch.
He spoke with slight dissatisfaction, "You gave him twenty taels of silver as a thank you for copying books, but when I copy books, I don't see you giving me a thank you."
Nan Yi pursed her lips and said, "What's yours is mine. Why do you need a thank-you gift? We're family, so why are you being so formal? It's too much of a formality."
Yinzhen was delighted to hear this, but he didn't carefully distinguish between the phrase "what's yours is mine" and "what's mine is yours."
Su Peisheng's face twitched again. He realized that the concubine was deceiving the master, and the master was even acting as if he was willing to do so.
Among the mistresses in the inner quarters, Consort Tong was the most skilled at flattering people.
Nan Yi hired Su Peisheng to copy one hundred copies of the Women's Precepts for twenty taels of silver. Yinzhen tacitly approved. He was originally depressed, but seeing Su Peisheng's bitter face, he immediately felt at ease.
Even as they were sleeping, Yinzhen was still aroused. He pressed down on Nan Yi's hand, which was pushing him away, and uttered, "Just once."
Nan Yi coughed, almost choking on his saliva, and struggled to break free from him, angrily saying, "I said it yesterday too, but you only stopped when you were about to go to court. Be careful not to go back on your word."
Yinzhen remained silent. He had indeed wanted to have sex with her last night, and when she responded enthusiastically without objection, he indulged himself. Of course, as a grown man, he couldn't say it aloud.
After a moment, he brushed aside the stray hairs on her forehead, a glint of light flashing in his eyes, and said softly, "Yesterday I copied ten copies, but today I copied thirteen." So I should reward his efforts.
Nan Yi was speechless with disappointment. Copying books was her Achilles' heel, yet someone had taken advantage of it, which was truly frustrating.
Seeing that she seemed to no longer object, Yinzhen tore off her clothes from the collar, his gaze lingering passionately on her slender body that he loved so much.
Nan's face was as red as the morning sun. She cursed inwardly, thinking that this person was too lazy to even unbutton his clothes. She would definitely wear something thicker tomorrow. In this old-fashioned era, the cloth was not durable at all.
As she sank into the depths of desire, her soft moans and gasps made her completely forget how many times it had happened. She only wanted to keep entangled with him until she was utterly exhausted and fell into a deep sleep.
The third night
Nan Yi sat on the couch, wrapped in the quilt, and said fiercely to Yinzhen, "No tonight, absolutely not."
Yinzhen was speechless. He hadn't said anything. He lay down next to her, pulled down her exposed body, and pressed her into his arms, gently stroking her snowy back. He had wanted her many times over the past two days, but worried that her body couldn't take it, he had already given up on the idea.
He closed his eyes and pretended to sleep, relaxing his limbs. A faint fragrance wafted to his nose. He wanted to sleep with her, but his body was tired yet he still longed for her. She refused him completely and could only say, "What do you take me for? Even an iron man gets tired."
Nan Yi was delighted and hugged his neck, falling asleep contentedly.
"Don't come over tomorrow," Yinzhen's calm and collected voice suddenly rang out.
Just as she was about to ask why, a thought flashed through her mind: tomorrow seems to be the fifteenth, and he has to go to the main courtyard. She suddenly felt uneasy, as if something was wrong.
She tried hard to think, and when she thought about her own identity, Tong Yilan, a secondary consort, was his concubine, commonly known as a mistress.
Nan Yi was dejected, like an eggplant chilled by frost. She seemed to have become too proud of herself, always thinking that as a concubine in his backyard, she always lacked confidence. So she could tolerate the repeated difficulties the primary wife made for her, since she had stolen someone else's man.
Nan Yi released her hands from his neck, trying to leave his embrace and retreat towards the wall. When Yinzhen saw her sudden movement, he opened his eyes and stared at her sternly.
Seeing that she didn't look well, he assumed it was because she wasn't allowed to come tomorrow, which had upset her. So he pulled her closer again and said calmly, "Tomorrow is the fifteenth."
