Chapter Forty: Not Short of Money

She dislikes extravagance and is content with having meat at every meal.

Hearing her say that, her lover stopped trying to persuade her and took the extra dishes out.

As Nan started eating, chewing on her ribs, she saw Fourth Master stride in, her lover following behind, secretly shaking her head at her. She waved her hand to indicate that it was nothing to worry about.

Why are you here?

Yinzhen's face darkened, and he said, "I can't come." He then sat down opposite Nan Yi, frowned at the meager number of dishes on the table, and asked, "No money?"

Didn't she just flaunt her dowry money? Is it because the allowance is so small that she's so frugal, serving only two dishes and a soup?

Nan Yile chewed on the meat on the bone with a smacking sound, and mumbled, "How could that be? I just didn't want to waste it." She rolled her eyes at him.

Nan Yi added half a bowl of rice to her bowl. When she heard that he hadn't eaten, she hesitated before handing her bowl over. Yinzhen looked at her with disdain and told her to eat her leftovers. He wondered how she could do such a thing.

"Fine, I won't take it. I'll eat it myself." Nan Yi withdrew his hand, intending to continue eating.

"--Well".

"You said you didn't want it, so why are you grabbing my hand?" Yinzhen took the bowl from her hand, frowned, and started eating anyway. "Hmm, the rice is good, the ribs are crispy, and the soup is delicious."

She watched as the Fourth Master devoured all the remaining food and soup, her beautiful eyes widening. She wasn't even full yet, but she didn't think much of his behavior, which was so inappropriate for his status.
