Chapter Forty-Three: Venting Personal Resentment

"Li Dequan, tomorrow, quietly go to the Fourth Prince's residence."

"Your servant obeys the decree."

The Eighth and Ninth Princes walked out of the palace. "Ninth Brother, take the Jadeite Cabbage back as soon as possible."

"Hmm, my brother will send someone to fetch it," she said, then turned to the Eighth Prince, her mind still troubled, "Eighth Brother, where exactly is Nan Yi?"

His spies searched the entire capital but found no trace of her. He began to doubt whether she was truly in the capital, or if it was simply a matter of incompetence on the part of his subordinates.

“I don’t know,” the Eighth Prince said in a deep voice, raising his head to gaze into the distance.

However, the Ninth Prince revealed another clue: "Yesterday, my spies learned that Nan Yi had made an appointment with Xiao Xi, the only female constable in the capital, and Princess Yi from the Prince of Duoluo's mansion, to meet at Xiao Xi's house. Eighth Brother, do you think it's possible..."

"Where does Xiao Xi live?" the Eighth Prince asked eagerly.

No. 68 Qingming Lane

"Let's go and meet her."

As for Nan Yi, just as dawn broke, after Yinzhen went to court, she slipped out of the mansion and left Qingyun to guard the gate. However, her lover discovered her scheme. Qingfeng and Yiren overheard their conversation, and the four maids were terrified, hoping that their mistress would return before the master finished court.

Qingyun and Yiren were interrogated by Qingfeng and his lover and learned that sneaking away from their master was a common occurrence. They sighed and secretly prayed that they wouldn't be exposed.

After leaving the mansion, it took several turns to finally find Qingming Lane, a very ordinary little courtyard.

"Knock knock"

"Is anyone home?" she asked, peering through the crack in the door.

"Who is it?" A clear, childlike voice rang out, and then the door opened, revealing a pretty little girl of about seven or eight years old in a red dress, who peeked out and looked at her curiously.

Who are you looking for?

“Xiao Xi is at home,” Nan Yi said softly.

The little girl tilted her head and pursed her lips as she replied, "My sister went to the yamen. I'm her younger sister. Is there something you need, sister?" Recently, her older sister has been visiting her frequently, and she's gotten used to it.

"My name is Nan Yi."

"Oh, you must be Sister Nan Yi," the little girl interrupted her with bright eyes, as if she had known her for a long time.

Nan Yi was surprised instead, "You know me?"

"Yes, my sister said you're very capable and brave," the little girl pouted, looking the strange woman up and down. "My sister is lying. Nan Yi is so ugly, not as beautiful as my sister said."

"—Hehe, really?" Xiao Xi praised her like that, and she felt a little guilty. She had promised to visit her, but she hadn't shown up for so long. If she hadn't dreamed of being kidnapped again, she might have forgotten her promise to Xiao Xi.
