Yinzhen was startled, then suddenly called out in surprise, "Yi'er," his voice trembling slightly. Nan opened her eyes drowsily, perhaps because she had slept for too long, and felt completely exhausted.
When Nan Yi regained consciousness, she frowned. She seemed to have had a strange dream. What was it about? She vaguely remembered a sky full of gold and red, but she couldn't recall what it was about. She looked somewhat dazed.
Yinzhen was overjoyed, his voice a little unsteady. "Yi'er, you're awake," he said with great delight. He went to the bedside, carefully lifted her upper body, and pulled her into his arms, asking softly, "Is there anything else that's bothering you?" His voice was so gentle it was almost dripping with tenderness, but he himself didn't realize it.
She lay unconscious for three days, and he dared not close his eyes, a sudden fear rising in his heart that she might not wake up. Apart from looking at Hongpan, he spent all his time by her bedside, unable to face her peaceful, lifeless face as she lay asleep.
Without seeing her mischievous figure, and with no one to report her daily chores to him, he felt empty and lost. He wasn't afraid of her arguing or making a fuss; even if he locked her in the courtyard, just knowing she was there was enough. This lifeless silence, as if she would never wake up, was an unbearable torment that he endured day and night.
When Nan came to her senses, she found herself in her own bedroom. She hadn't died after all. She smiled bitterly and sighed to herself, thinking how lucky she was.
"Yi'er?" Seeing that she didn't speak, Yinzhen was still worried. Had she gone mad? He looked her over carefully.
"How is the young prince?" Nan Yi asked weakly, recalling what happened before he fell into a coma, Li Shi's angry scolding was still vivid in his mind.
When Yinzhen heard her speak, he felt relieved and moved her into his arms, comforting her, "Don't worry, he's fine. But you, the imperial physician said you've suffered a great loss of vitality and need to take good care of yourself."
Nan Yi nodded. "Who did it?"
After leaving the villa, she always thought she had stayed away from the strife. Nothing had happened for more than a year, and she thought that the Fourth Prince's mansion was not so terrible after all.
The power struggles within a household are legendary tales. You can only breathe a sigh of relief before falling into a trap without realizing it. I was careless. I really need to be on guard at all times, to be alert in case of trouble, and to feel at ease when nothing is happening.
Yinzhen's eyes were gloomy, and his voice was somewhat cold, "It was just a coincidence. Be more careful in the future."
Nan Yi was slightly taken aback. What a coincidence! Did they think she was a three-year-old?
She was immediately enraged, overwhelmed with unspeakable sadness and disappointment. If she didn't wake up, if she were to die, would he still be so nonchalant? Nan Yisuan understood more deeply that in his eyes, she was nothing but something that could be discarded at any time.
Thinking of this, though heartbroken, she couldn't let the matter rest so easily. So she put on a stern face, stared at him, and said sarcastically, "What a coincidence?"
Upon hearing this, Yinzhen stiffened slightly and asked in a low voice, "What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean."
He gritted his teeth and said, "I don't know, so you should explain it clearly."
Nan Yi scoffed and said coldly, "Master is quite the actor." After a slight pause, she added, "I wonder if others will appreciate it." After saying so many words in a row, her body, which had just regained consciousness, couldn't take it anymore, and she was slightly out of breath.
Yinzhen pursed his thin lips and said calmly, "Speak properly, don't be sarcastic." Seeing that she was a little tired, he said slowly, "Rest first, we'll talk about it tomorrow."
He laid her flat on the pillow and asked her if she was hungry. She shook her head, so he lay down next to her, slightly raised her head, and placed her on his arm as a pillow.
Nan Yi was very anxious. She had finally woken up, but she didn't want to sleep at all because she hadn't figured things out. She couldn't move her body, so she kept moving her head around, not letting Yinzhen have any peace.
Knowing she was doing this intentionally, Yinzhen chuckled and asked, "What do you want?"
She then stopped moving, shook him a few more times without disturbing him, and was about to faint herself when she asked, "What did the imperial physician say?"
This is what she most wants to know.
"You just accidentally ate something that doesn't go well with you. No one harmed you. Don't worry too much. Just rest and recover," Yinzhen said, downplaying the seriousness of the matter.
Nan Yi angrily growled in a low voice, "I don't care if I die. That's right, the person is gone, who can she complain to?" She might go to the underworld to complain to Yama, but Yama would say, "You are not under my jurisdiction." Then her tragedy would be complete.
The lovers guarding the door, upon hearing voices coming from inside, exchanged a glance and excitedly exclaimed, "Master has woken up!"
"It must be, it's truly a blessing from the Bodhisattva," Qingyun said, pressing his palms together in sincere gratitude to Heaven. His lover quickly nudged Qingyun and said with a smile, "Don't thank me, go and tell them the good news."
Qingyun chuckled, "Look at me, I'm so happy I forgot." After saying that, she ran off to deliver the message. A moment later, a group of people gathered around the house, all with happy expressions. They were all familiar faces from the Lan Academy.
Just as everyone was rejoicing, Xiao Shunzi coughed and said, "Look, Consort Nian has arrived."
"What is she doing here?" Qingyun wondered, her master had refused her entry last time and hadn't learned her lesson.
Yiren snorted. As soon as her mistress woke up, she instantly felt triumphant and proudly said, "What can she do? Just drag people away." She couldn't stand Consort Nian, who always came to her mistress's place to intercept people; she was really petty.
“We can’t say that. Maybe they came to see their master,” Aunt Qiu said earnestly.
Yiren scoffed, "Tch, that's just crocodile tears."
After her master fell into a coma, she took action, but she was a moment too late. Someone covered up the truth, and all she could find out was superficial and useless. Aunt Qiu also hinted that she should stop, lest her life be in danger. Sure enough, within two days, most of the servants in the mansion disappeared without a trace, and only familiar faces remained in Wanyue Pavilion.
Everyone agreed with Yiren's words and automatically stood in a proper position. Seeing that Lady Nian had arrived at the door, they all squatted down and bowed.
Looking at the group of servants, Lady Nian said, "What's all this about...?" They've all gathered here, and all look so happy... could it be...?
Yiren stepped forward first and said meaningfully, "Consort Nian, Consort Nian, my mistress is unwell and the master is with her, so it is inconvenient for me to receive you." You have to be careful when you pull someone along, don't be so clueless.
