Jiang Siyan lit a cigarette, his eyes, which held a half-smile, growing colder with each question.
Zhao Linsheng lowered his eyes, feeling guilty, "Brother Si Yan... I..."
“Linsheng, you’ve grown up, and you’ve become bolder. You’re starting to fantasize about people you shouldn’t be thinking about.” Jiang Siyan raised an eyebrow and patted his shoulder.
A sudden, excruciating pain shot through Zhao Linsheng's shoulder, turning his face pale with agony.
Jiang Siyan was still asking, "Isn't your brother Siyan good to you?"
Zhao Linsheng gritted his teeth, "No...no."
"Old Jiang's move was underhanded. This declaration of sovereignty was clearly meant for that brat. Now that the little fairy is gone, he's stopped pretending altogether." Ji Hong was staring in Jiang Siyan's direction, sighing involuntarily, when several figures beside him suddenly abandoned their idle chatter and quickly headed towards the terrace. Ji Hong asked, puzzled, "Hey, where are you going?"
Meng Zhaoqi gave him a look that said, "If we don't stop him now, Lin Sheng's arm might get chopped off by Chiang Kai-shek today."
He was right; the cold sweat that kept seeping from Zhao Linsheng's forehead was from the pain.
Meng Zhaoqi and his group arrived just in time. Ye Tingshu stepped forward with a smile to smooth things over, "Alright, this kid can't take your pain. Let him learn his lesson by suffering a little pain."
Jiang Siyan looked at him coldly and asked in a deep voice, "Are you awake now?"
Zhao Linsheng nodded with difficulty.
Jiang Siyan then released his restraining force and pushed Zhao Linsheng back a few steps with his palm. Lu Yunzhong caught his arm in time so that he didn't fall down.
Meng Zhaoqi gave the others a look, and each of them grabbed one of Zhao Linsheng's arms and led him away from the trouble.
Meng Zhaoqi didn't leave. He just took out a lighter from his pocket, lit the cigarette that Jiang Siyan had just put in his mouth, and laughed, "Old Jiang, you've got quite a temper."
Jiang Siyan exhaled a deep puff of smoke, glanced at him sideways, and said, "Just say what you want to say."
Meng Zhaoqi smiled sarcastically, "I only realized today that this Miss Su is quite special."
Is it special?
Jiang Siyan's face was shrouded in a blue mist, his deep eyes remaining as always. Perhaps, he thought.
She's rare; she can easily capture his heart and mind, and she's very endearing.
——
Su Er and Mo Qingshu went to the flower room together to admire the flowers for a while. In the cold winter weather, the flower room was full of brightly colored flowers, like a unique spring scene in the world.
The two lost track of time as they chatted, and only turned back reluctantly when a servant came to find them.
As I approached the banquet hall, I bumped into a gentle and quiet woman.
Judging from his demeanor, he seemed to know Mo Qingshu, and greeted her with a familiar smile, "Sister Qingshu."
Mo Qingshu glanced at Su Er standing beside her without changing her expression, her smile remaining unchanged: "Youli, it's been a while since we last met, hasn't it?"
Cheng Youli said, "Yeah, I've been quite busy lately."
"Are you planning to leave now?" Mo Qingshu asked.
Cheng Youli nodded, "Well, I'm just here to go through the motions. Qing Shu, let's meet up and chat again next time."
After saying that, she smiled at Su Er and nodded, "Goodbye."
Su Er was unaware of his presence and politely smiled and nodded in return.
Before she could look away, she suddenly heard a clear, husky voice behind her, "Er'er."
Su Er turned her head to look, and it was the person she expected. Jiang Siyan was holding a food box and looking at her tenderly.
Su Er greeted Mo Qingshu, ran a few steps toward Jiang Siyan, and threw herself into his arms.
With a doting smile on his face, Jiang Siyan caught her steadily and asked her if she had a good time chatting.
Su Er nodded, reached out and lifted the lid of the food box. Sure enough, there were two steaming sweet potatoes inside. Her voice was filled with surprise and delight, "They're done baking!"
Jiang Siyan patted the back of her hand, stopping her fingertips from reaching into the food box. "They were just baked not long ago, so don't worry about them getting hot."
Su Er chuckled awkwardly, put her hands behind her back, and looked up to meet Meng Zhaoqi's sly eyes. He put his arm around Mo Qingshu and said in a frivolous tone, "Wife, let's roast sweet potatoes too. Mine are sweeter than Lao Jiang's."
Under such blatant teasing, Su Er's embarrassment was nowhere to be hidden, and she could only bury her face in Jiang Siyan's arms in embarrassment.
Jiang Siyan put his arm around her and simply greeted Meng Zhaoqi, "We're going back now."
Meng Zhaoqi waved his hand dismissively, looking utterly disgusted. "You should leave now. I've never seen anyone so sickeningly sweet. You're even more annoying than me."
Su Er lowered her face even further, leaving only her bright red ear tips visible as she forced herself to say goodbye to Mo Qingshu, "Sister Qingshu, we'll be going now."
"Okay, let's talk next time."
As they went out, snow began to fall heavily from the sky again.
It was only a short walk, and the snow wasn't very heavy, so they didn't ask us to use umbrellas.
Although Su Er was held in Jiang Siyan's arms, a few snowflakes still managed to get on her face. Once she got into the car, they melted into water, but she was too lazy to wipe them off. She just focused on opening the food box to get the roasted sweet potato she had been longing for.
It was no longer hot to the touch. She broke it in half, and the rising steam carried the aroma of roasted sweet potato into her nostrils. Su Er took a small bite of one of the pointed corners; it was soft, sticky, and sweet, exceeding her expectations in deliciousness.
She generously handed the other half to Jiang Siyan, saying, "It's so sweet, do you want some?"
Jiang Siyan said calmly, "Just eat it yourself."
Su Er didn't pay much attention to his refusal, after all, Jiang Siyan had never been fond of sweets.
