Su Er glared at her angrily: "No way!"
Xi Wangshu was not intimidated by her at all. "No? Anyway, you must be lusting after her body."
Su Er felt guilty for a moment, blinked, and looked aggrieved. "Am I... that kind of person in your heart?"
Others would probably soften at her appearance, but Xi Wangshu had been with her since childhood and knew all about her tricks.
Xi Wangshu decisively rejected her moral blackmail, "Mm."
Su Er curled her lip, finding it uninteresting, and scoffed.
Xi Wangshu gently nudged her shoulder, leaned close to Su Er's ear, and carefully analyzed, "But based on your description, it's fine for you to have a casual fling with this person. It's acceptable for both of you to get what you want. Just one thing: don't take it to heart."
Su Er had never understood why Xi Wangshu chose to study education; she had every right to choose.
Xi Wangshu's parents and Su Er's parents are two completely different kinds of people.
Rather than overprotecting and lecturing, I prefer to let Xi Wangshu encounter setbacks on her own and let things teach her lessons.
Therefore, most people refrain from commenting or offering opinions on Xi Wangshu's choices.
The only time I paused was when she was choosing her major. I asked her, "Are you sure you want to teach and nurture students, or are you planning to take your students to bars? This profession carries a lot of responsibility."
It's not surprising that Mr. and Mrs. Xi thought that way. After all, Xi Wangshu back then was completely different from how he is now.
To give an example, it's like a rock singer suddenly saying one day that he's going to sing folk songs – that kind of contrast.
Su Er even suspected that if it weren't for the long-standing friendship between the two families, her parents would definitely have made them keep their distance.
But now, listening to her words, Su Er felt that she must have misjudged her back then.
Xi Wangshu was exceptionally gifted in preaching; his words were remarkably insightful.
She looked at Xi Wangshu with sparkling eyes, "Great job, Professor Xi! I think you have the potential to be a philosophy professor. Have you considered changing your major?"
Xi Wangshu cupped her face in his hands, his attitude serious, "Take my words to heart."
This is the second person to say that to her.
Su Er smiled and said dismissively, "It's not that easy to get emotionally involved."
When they finished chatting and came out of the bar, it was almost 9:30. Su Er was half-drunk, but she still couldn't forget that she had to get home before 10 o'clock.
Otherwise, if she happened to run into Su Boyuan and He Yi, she estimated she would get a long lecture.
Chen Yiping escorted them to the door and stopped Xi Wangshu from calling a designated driver, saying, "Don't call a designated driver, I'll take you home, it's safer that way."
Xi Wangshu: "No need."
Su Er: "Okay!"
A gentle spring breeze swept by, filling the air with a faint sense of awkwardness and silence.
Su Er, slightly drunk, pulled the car keys from Xi Wangshu's pocket and handed them to Chen Yiping, saying, "Brother Yiping, thank you for your help."
Chen Yiping took the keys. "You're welcome."
"You sit in the front." Su Er pushed Xi Wangshu to the passenger seat.
Xi Wangshu glared at her. "Why would I sit in the front?"
Su Er opened the car door for her and said with a smile, "Brother Yiping is taking us home, we can't treat him like a driver."
"Then you can sit in the front."
Su Er wrapped her coat tighter around her head. "What if someone takes a picture of me? It'll cause rumors!"
After saying that, Su Er quickly opened the back seat and climbed in.
Xi Wangshu glanced at the person sitting in the driver's seat, then got into the car with a cold expression.
Music played softly and pleasantly inside the car, but the atmosphere inside was almost stagnant and desolate.
Back then, Xi Wangshu was chasing after Chen Yiping, but now the tables have turned and the tables have turned.
Su Er sat in the back seat, watching the two silent people in front of her, observing the commotion without saying a word.
When the car arrived at the entrance of the residential area, Su Er patted the driver's seat and called for a stop. "This is fine, Yi Ping. It'll save us from driving in and going around in circles. The cars inside are parked haphazardly at night."
Xi Wangshu was not at ease, so she bent down to unbuckle her seatbelt. "I'll take you upstairs."
"No need, no need, it's just a few steps, why would you drive me? I'm not drunk, just slightly tipsy at most." Su Er said, opening the car door, landing steadily, and jogging into the residential area. She waved to her, "I'll video call you when I get home, don't worry!"
Xi Wangshu leaned out of the car window, "Don't forget!"
"Okay!"
Only after the car drove away did Su Er turn around and continue walking towards home.
In this old neighborhood, the few streetlights providing illumination aren't very bright.
Feeling a bit stuffy, Su Er simply took off her mask and casually wrapped it around her arm.
She stood on the tiles of the roadside green belt, arms outstretched, trying to maintain her balance, the cardigan draped over her arms swaying in the wind.
She hummed a song she'd heard on the bus earlier, in broken Cantonese, "The moment I return home, there's no more pumpkin carriage."
"I walked back to my dormitory on my own two legs."
"Visiting the fairytale kingdom is like a dream that overwhelms your vision..."
“Near.”
At the fork in the road, that voice, like a gentle stream thawing in the spring breeze, flowed into her ears.
Su Er was taken aback, feeling that the voice sounded somewhat familiar.
She slowly raised her eyes, squinting as she looked at the luxury car, long legs, and face under the lamplight... She had astigmatism and couldn't see clearly.
Su Er jumped down the steps, but before she could stand up, her legs went weak from the light jump, and she was about to fall down in a daze.
Jiang Siyan quickly stepped forward to support her, and scolded her sternly, "What are you doing jumping around like that? Aren't you afraid of falling?"
