Su Er and Xi Wangshu hadn't seen each other for a long time, and once they started chatting, they couldn't stop.
After finishing their meal, they chatted until almost ten o'clock, still in high spirits.
Su Er pulled Xi Wangshu's hand to pinch her waist, "Feel it, isn't it rock hard? That's abs, okay? It's not something I got from starving myself."
"Okay, okay, abs! Our big star has such a great figure, don't you think?" Xi Wangshu casually scratched her, then deliberately moved her hand up along her waistline, causing Su Er to exclaim in surprise, "Hey! You're being a pervert!"
Xi Wangshu laughed like a carefree young master from ancient times visiting a brothel, "My dear sister, we've bathed together since we were little, and now you're acting all formal with me!"
Su Er couldn't resist the tickling, and while dodging her, she laughed until tears almost came out. "Okay, Shu Shu, please spare me."
As soon as Jiang Siyan entered the room, he heard this amused plea for mercy. The two people behind the screen didn't notice him and were still huddled together on the soft couch, scrolling through their phones and talking.
The girl who used to greet him the moment she saw him just a couple of days ago, saying she missed him, has completely forgotten about him today.
He felt inexplicably uneasy and coughed lightly, covering his mouth.
Su Er looked up when she heard the sound, her eyes filled with surprise. Because Xi Wangshu was there, she didn't rush to hug him, but just stood up with a smile and said, "You're back."
Xi Wangshu's gaze followed hers; having been a teacher for so long, her ability to observe people subtly had become increasingly outstanding.
His gaze shifted slightly between Su Er and him. Given his face and demeanor, it's not surprising that Su Er had feelings for him back then.
Jiang Siyan simply nodded and greeted him, "Hello, Jiang Siyan."
"Hello, Xi Wangshu." Xi Wangshu nodded and smiled in response.
Jiang Siyan loosened his tie slightly and didn't urge them, "Take your time chatting, just tell Auntie if you need anything."
Having said that, he walked back to his study.
Su Er took Xi Wangshu's hand again, "Let's talk for a while longer."
They chatted for another half hour, with Su Er's clear laughter echoing in the large room from time to time.
Xi Wangshu glanced at the time. "Alright, it's getting late. I have to go back now. I have to catch a flight tomorrow."
Su Er, still somewhat unsatisfied, rested her chin on Xi Wangshu's shoulder, her heart filled with regret. "Ah, so fast."
"What, you want me to stay with you for another night?"
Su Er pondered for a moment, pausing for a few seconds to genuinely consider the feasibility of her words, before heading to the study to find Jiang Siyan, saying, "I'll go ask him."
Xi Wangshu quickly pulled her back, "Alright, I'm not staying here. Your sister has her own nightlife."
When Jiang Siyan returned earlier, Xi Wangshu could tell that if she stayed any longer, he would probably come and ask her for the person back.
Su Er got even more excited upon hearing this, and sighed to the heavens, "Me too..."
The study door opened and closed, and she quickly pursed her lips and shut her mouth.
Xi Wangshu chuckled as she watched, "Let's go, it's getting late."
Su Er still held her hand, "Then I'll see you out."
The courtyard was incense-burning, so there weren't many mosquitoes.
The two walked side by side under the eaves. Su Er noticed Xi Wangshu's silence, nudged her arm, and asked, "What's wrong? Are you unhappy?"
"No."
Su Er asked again, "Did you have a fight with Brother Yiping?"
Xi Wangshu rolled her eyes at her, "Why bring him up for no reason?"
Su Er pouted. "They won't even let me mention it, so there must be a problem."
The car was already started, and Su Er turned to open the car door for her. "Teacher Xi, see you in Nancheng next time."
Xi Wangshu stepped forward and hugged her, gently patting her back. "Take good care of yourself while you're away. Remember to call me if anything happens."
At times like these, Xi Wangshu, who is a few years older than Su Er, truly acts like a caring older sister.
Su Er smiled and hugged her back, reassuring her, "I know."
Xi Wangshu didn't let go of her. After thinking for a long time, he turned his head slightly and whispered in her ear, "Xiao Er, it's okay to play around, but don't get emotionally involved. Keep your heart in check."
The worry in her tone was undisguised, and Xi Wangshu hoped it was just her imagination.
But in that brief encounter, the emotions that naturally flowed between the two couldn't be faked; Su Er was truly sincere towards that person.
She desperately wanted Su Er to be happy and didn't want to see her get hurt.
But reality is what it is: with such a family background, dating might be possible, but when it comes to marriage, there has to be a need for a good match in terms of social standing—this is an age-old truth.
Even if they get married, Su Er might not be happy, and might even suffer a lot of grievances.
Those involved are often blinded, while bystanders see things clearly. Xi Wangshu worried that she would be blinded by her overwhelming love and fall head over heels in love.
Su Er's eyes sparkled; she knew perfectly well why Xi Wangshu had deliberately reminded her of that sentence.
She probably sensed something and was worried that she would be taken advantage of.
Su Er was usually eloquent, but at this moment, she found herself at a loss for words, unsure how to explain herself in a way that would put the person in front of her at ease.
Even she herself had to admit that those moments when she was moved by Jiang Siyan were real.
People tend to crave the good things in life, and before things develop beyond their expectations, they always feel that they have the ability to control them.
Knowing when to cut your losses is a skill, but Su Er always felt that her relationship with Jiang Siyan was far from reaching that point.
Su Er nodded solemnly to her, "I understand, Shu Shu."
She understood everything.
The two looked at each other and smiled. Su Er pushed her into the car, "Okay, bye-bye!"
Once the car had driven away, Su Er turned and went back into the house.
As she listened to the sound of her footsteps on the bricks, her initial high spirits gradually waned.
She was somewhat unsure, unsure if she would be able to extricate herself in time as she hoped.
With her mind in complete disarray, Su Er found a place to sit under the eaves, lowered her eyes, and tugged at the hem of her clothes, trying to clear her thoughts.
She took a deep breath, suddenly looked up, and unexpectedly met a pair of dark and deep eyes not far away.
She couldn't quite see his expression, but she knew perfectly well that his eyes held not only the moonlight, but also her.
"What are you doing sitting there? Feeding the mosquitoes?" Jiang Siyan leaned against the door frame and looked at her.
Su Er suddenly didn't want to think about it anymore.
She ran over, threw herself into Jiang Siyan's arms, hooked her arms around his neck, and looked up at him, "What are you doing here?"
Jiang Siyan pinched her cheek, "Let's see if our Er'er has run off with someone."
Su Er pouted and said sweetly, "Oh dear, you get jealous of all girls!"
"And you even said, 'Now that I'm back, are you staring at me?'"
Hearing his jealous words, Su Er couldn't help but laugh. She opened her palms, cupped his face, and brought her face close to his nose. "Jiang Siyan, look, all I see is you."
"You little rascal." Jiang Siyan chuckled and picked her up, carrying her upstairs.
