It was just a casual remark, but Su Er took it seriously.
What kind of thanks does he want? And can she afford to give him any?
Seeing her serious expression, Jiang Siyan was about to say "never mind".
Su Er took a step forward. Just as she lit the lighter, Jiang Siyan, afraid of burning her, moved it further away and quickly covered it with the metal cap.
The delicate fragrance of her hair wafted into her nostrils. She tiptoed and pulled out a box of matches from somewhere. With a snap, her thoughts drifted back to that night not long ago.
Su Er naively thought that this could also be considered repaying the favor of borrowing a light that night.
Su Er could hear her heart pounding rapidly. If she were wearing a cardiac monitor right now, it would definitely sound an alarm indicating a rapid heartbeat.
She was warned not to take that step, as it would lead her into an unpredictable abyss.
She composed herself, her feigned indifference adding a touch of sternness to her expression.
The wind was light tonight, and she held her hands together to protect herself from the wind. The firelight danced gently, casting a warm yellow glow on her features, and her trembling eyelashes betrayed her.
Jiang Siyan scoffed inwardly, "Little girl."
Amidst the billowing smoke, Su Er took a step back, her face displaying a charmingly shrewdness that belied her usual demeanor: "When is Mr. Jiang free? I'd like to invite you to dinner."
Jiang Siyan took a deep drag of his cigarette, which had a faint, pleasant fragrance than usual. He flicked off the ash, smiled knowingly, and asked, "Miss Su's food, it seems I'm good enough for you?"
Su Er was startled, and the scene of their first meeting flashed through her mind.
That elevator, her boastful words, and that sneer.
Even though she knew that Jiang Siyan's words were seven parts joking, her delicate eyebrows still furrowed almost imperceptibly.
Su Er clenched her fists, unable to suppress the irritation in her heart.
When he spoke again, his tone was much colder: "May I have your phone number? It'll be convenient for me to contact you later."
Jiang Siyan paused, holding the cigarette between his fingers, and couldn't help but chuckle. The young girl had quite a temper; she was easily provoked, cold-hearted, and could turn on him in an instant.
But it was precisely this appearance that made him even more interesting. Jiang Siyan's tone became increasingly nonchalant, "Sure, I'm always ready to answer Miss Su's call."
Su Er cursed inwardly, "How indecent!"
She wrote down a string of numbers without expression and handed the phone over: "Please leave a note for me."
The phone was handed back to her, and Su Er didn't even look at it before putting it in her pocket.
The atmosphere became somewhat tense, mirroring her expression. Fortunately, in the next instant, the once quiet alley was illuminated again.
The car stopped in front of them, and the driver got out and opened the door for him.
Jiang Siyan didn't rush to get into the car. He rested one hand on the car door, tilted his head slightly, and asked with the air of a young nobleman, "Want a ride?"
Su Er declined without hesitation, "No need, thank you Mr. Jiang, I have a car, goodbye."
The farewell was completed in one go.
Jiang Siyan curled the corners of his lips. He only mentioned it briefly and didn't insist. Before getting into the car, he casually draped the coat he was holding over her arm over her shoulders.
Suddenly, a weight settled on her shoulder. By the time Su Er realized what was happening, Jiang Siyan had already gotten into the car.
She quickly stepped forward, saying, "Mr. Jiang..." as she was about to pull off her coat and return it to him.
The car had already started, and Jiang Siyan waved his hand, "Keep it on, I'll return it when you treat us to dinner."
Without giving her a chance to refuse, the car had already driven far away.
The red taillights had become blurry, and it wasn't the same car as that night, but the license plate was still just as easy to remember.
Su Er held onto his suit tightly, and the smell of smoke and alcohol in the private room did not mask the sandalwood scent on his clothes.
It was cool and thin, with a faint medicinal fragrance that permeated every inch of the fabric.
Just like its owner, this fragrance has a gentle top note, but its essence is strong, making it impossible to ignore.
The car lights behind her flashed a few times, and Lin Shuqin rolled down the window and called out to her, "Still looking? Get in the car!"
Su Er snapped out of her daze, jogged a few steps, and opened the car door.
Once in the car, Su Er folded her coat and placed it on her lap. She glanced at Lin Shuqin, her expression not exactly pleasant.
Fang Li had already fallen asleep in the back seat of the car.
This is the age when people are most sleepy.
She was only a year older than Fang Li, but she seemed to be several times more tired than Fang Li.
She lowered her voice and moved closer to Lin Shuqin, "Sister Qin."
Lin Shuqin glanced at her, fiddling with her phone, and ignored her.
Su Er knew she was angry, so she softened her voice and poked her arm affectionately, "Sister Qin... please don't ignore me..."
Lin Shuqin gave her a cold glare. "What's your relationship with him?"
Su Er asked innocently, "Sister Qin, who are you talking about? Mr. Jiang from tonight? I really don't know him."
Lin Shuqin tapped her forehead and snapped, "Stop arguing with me! You don't know him, why would he help you for no reason? Didn't you see how respectful that guy surnamed Tang was to him? We can't afford to mess with people like that, you know that?"
After saying all this, Lin Shuqin let out a heavy sigh, half out of fear and half out of annoyance.
Su Er felt somewhat helpless, wishing she could cry out to the heavens that she was wronged. "Sister Qin, I really don't know him. I've only seen him twice today." She paused for a few seconds and then confessed everything: "At most... it was that day at the hotel entrance when I couldn't light my cigarette and asked him for a light."
Lin Shuqin scanned her face, the doubt still lingering in her eyes, "Really?"
Su Er clasped his hands together to assure her, "It's more real than real gold!"
