Chapter 103 A Grand Display Is Always Necessary

The day before New Year's Eve, Su Er packed her bags and headed to the airport.

As for why the originally ample time became so tight, one can only ask the culprit who wouldn't let her go until dawn.

She slept for two hours on the plane, only managing to perk up a little when the flight attendant patted her on the shoulder and said it was time to get off.

She strained her eyes, trying to appear more alert.

But as soon as she got in the car, Su Boyuan's first words to her were, "Did you go thieving last night? You look so listless."

Su Er simply gave up struggling and lied, "I was learning sign language last night and accidentally stayed up too late."

After saying that, she drifted off to sleep in the car again.

When she got home, she let Jiang Siyan know she was safe. He Yi saw that she was nodding her head into her bowl while eating, so she didn't want to nag her anymore and waved her off to go back to her room to sleep.

Su Er quickly washed up and slept from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. the next morning.

At seven o'clock, Su Boyuan and the others went out to buy groceries and actually called her. She subconsciously propped herself up and sat up to answer. After hearing the door close, she fell asleep again.

After being lectured, Su Er finally came to her senses and busied herself cleaning.

I had a simple lunch, and then started preparing for the New Year's Eve dinner in the afternoon.

Around 1 a.m., the relatives who were coming over for dinner that evening started arriving one after another. They had come early in the morning to help out, and every corner of the house was packed with people, making it a lively and bustling place.

Su Er greeted everyone and lingered by her grandmother's side for a while before being assigned a small vegetable basket and a bunch of watercress. She sat on a small stool and picked out vegetables.

It didn't snow in the southern part of the city this year, but the warm winter sun shone through the glass windows, casting a brilliant glow on the balcony.

Su Er sat down in the sunlight, her face bathed in a warm golden glow. The elders, watching this scene, couldn't help but chat, "Little Er is getting more and more beautiful."

"Xiao Er, your aunt went to see that movie of yours. It was really well acted. Your aunt even shed tears."

When Su Er heard herself mentioned, she looked up and smiled, "Thank you, Auntie."

He Yi happened to be carrying a bunch of groceries out of the kitchen and couldn't help but frown, "Why are you praising her for this?"

Su Er knew that He Yi was still angry about her previous procrastination in taking the postgraduate entrance exam, so she didn't say anything, obediently lowered her head, and tried to make herself less noticeable.

Someone nudged her arm and whispered in Su Er's ear, "Sis, don't listen to your aunt. My classmates and I went to see it too. You acted so well. We're all your fans."

Su Er's previously suppressed emotions eased considerably. "Thank you."

The little girl said with a proud expression, "You're welcome. Just give me a couple of autographed photos later."

Su Er couldn't help but chuckle, picked up the reed in her hand and gently brushed it across her cheek, scolding her playfully, "You little rascal."

They were busy until dusk, and as the dishes on the round table were gradually served, everyone took their seats.

Su Er sat in the chair, obediently acting as a guest, raising her glass when it was time to raise it and saying auspicious words when it was time to say auspicious words.

But after going around in circles with all sorts of topics, the conversation eventually came back to her.

"Alright, you've produced such a big star, aren't you satisfied yet?"

"That's right. You know how many of my colleagues have been talking about Xiao Er lately and how much they love her. Our Xiao Er is really amazing. Her acting is so lifelike."

Upon hearing this, Su Boyuan put down his wine glass and glanced at Su Er with displeasure. "What's the use of just relying on other people's liking? It's all empty talk. Today there are so many people who like you, and tomorrow there will be so many people who hate you. The key is to enrich yourself."

He Yi's expression was indifferent, with a hint of worry between her brows. "In the end, those are all just frivolous things. Her father and I still hope she can be more stable. That's why last year I kept telling her to take the postgraduate entrance exam, improve her academic qualifications, and consider staying at the university. But she kept making excuses..."

As Su Er listened to these words, her grip on the chopsticks gradually loosened, and she placed her hands on her knees, lowering her eyes to listen obediently to the reprimand.

"Ding-dong—" The doorbell suddenly rang, interrupting the incessant lecturing.

A clear voice came from the doorway, "Happy New Year, Uncle and Aunt!"

Su Er then peeked out in surprise, and Xi Wangshu, noticing her gaze, gave her a flirtatious wink.

Xi Wangshu walked briskly to Su Er's side, first greeting all the elders one by one, then naturally leaning her elbow on Su Er's shoulder, just like family.

"Shushu, have you eaten yet? Sit down and have something to eat with us," He Yi called out to her.

"I've already eaten." Xi Wangshu leaned down and hooked her arm around Su Er's neck, saying, "It's getting dark, so I'm going to ask Xiao Er to go out and set off fireworks."

He Yi asked, "How can this be allowed to be released?"

When I was little, we could leave our cars in the park downstairs in the community, but that's not allowed now.

Xi Wangshu grabbed Su Er's arm and pulled her up, then looked at He Yi pitifully, "Longtan Street is fine, I've checked it all out, Auntie, Xiao Er and I haven't gotten together in so long."

The elder sitting in the superior position spoke up, "Alright, let those two little girls play by themselves."

Su Er concealed her joy, said goodbye to the elders, and was about to leave when Zhao Leqi, sitting beside her, tugged at her sleeve with a pleading look, "Sister..."

Su Er smiled helplessly and pulled her up, "Let's go, let's go together."

"Thank you, sister."

Su Er put on her mask and hat, and He Yi followed behind her, instructing her and Xi Wangshu, "You two take good care of your younger sister."

"knew."

"Don't come back too late."

"knew."

With a bang, the door slammed shut, and Su Er finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Seeing her relieved expression made Xi Wangshu laugh. "How about that, sister? I knew you were hiding in the corner like a quail."

Taking advantage of the darkness, Su Er removed a bit of her mask, took a deep breath, and said playfully, "Thank you so much, I will never forget your kindness."

Seeing that the two of them had finished chatting, Zhao Lexi seized the opportunity to speak up: "Hey, but Wang Shu, did you buy any fireworks? Is there anywhere to buy fireworks at this time?"

Xi Wangshu patted her shoulder to reassure her, "Does your sister Wangshu ever fight a battle unprepared?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the trunk of the SUV was lifted open, revealing a car full of fireworks, from sparklers to Gatling guns.

Zhao Lexi's mouth dropped open. "Sister Wangshu, you're amazing!"

"Why did you buy so much?" Su Er couldn't help but ask.

"This is to celebrate our superstar Su coming home for the Chinese New Year, so we have to make a big show of it."
