Chapter 73: Want something else?

Su Er struggled to turn around in the somewhat crowded embrace, the subtle fragrance of her hair quietly spreading within that short distance.

She looked up at him and could vaguely make out his smooth lines and contours. Su Er poked his chest and said, "Jiang Siyan, it's so late."

The words had a hidden meaning; they implied a refusal.

"Okay, let's go to sleep." Jiang Siyan simply hugged her tighter and took a long, deep breath.

Su Er's fingers froze in place, so she had just been deluding herself into thinking that he wanted to be with her...

In the darkness, Jiang Siyan seemed to have turned on a bright lamp for himself, clearly seeing all the twists and turns, the embarrassment and regret in her mind.

He lowered his head, his nose lightly brushing against her forehead, and asked with a casual smile, "What? Thinking about something else?"

Su Er realized she'd been tricked and shook her head angrily, "No way, go to sleep!"

In this comforting embrace, it was easy to fall asleep. Soon, her breathing became steady, though it was a little heavy from crying for so long.

Even when held in someone's arms, Su Er didn't sleep very well. One nightmare after another plagued her, and she instinctively pressed her body closer to the heat source for comfort.

Jiang Siyan used to be a light sleeper. When he woke up in the morning, he was surprised at how he managed to fall asleep with one leg draped heavily over his waist.

"I have things to do today, so you should stay home and rest." He tucked her in and whispered in her ear.

Su Er couldn't listen to any of it, finding the noise too annoying, so she buried her face in the pillow and gave a perfunctory reply.

When she woke up, it was already noon. Su Er sat up and stared blankly at the golden light shining through the gap in the curtains.

She remembered that she had slept on her left side last night, but now she had rolled over to her right side, with one pillow under her head and the other in her arms, claiming both pillows on the bed for herself.

She lay in bed for a while longer, feeling drowsy, until her limbs were fully stretched out and comfortable, before slowly getting out of bed.

As Su Er brushed her teeth, she pressed her swollen eyelids, and sure enough, her double eyelids disappeared again.

She put on a shawl and went downstairs, the aroma of food wafting towards her.

Hearing the noise, Aunt Cui came out with a bowl, her face full of joy. "Little Er is awake! Perfect timing, come and eat."

Su Er stepped down the last step and said, "Good afternoon, Aunt Cui."

She went to the kitchen and grabbed two spoons, putting them in the refrigerator. She craned her neck and looked around, but didn't see Jiang Siyan.

"Yan-ge'er has gone out and we don't know when he'll be back. Come and eat first." Aunt Cui pushed her to sit down on a chair.

Several stir-fried dishes, with their perfect color, aroma, and taste, whetted people's appetites.

Su Er ladled out a bowl of pork rib soup, sipped it slowly while admiring the view outside the window, and Aunt Cui handed her a fully charged phone. "Xiao Er, look, someone called you from upstairs."

"Thank you, Aunt Cui." She took the phone and opened it. She had left it on the table after arriving at Lin Shuqin's room last night, presumably with her luggage.

Su Er checked the missed calls; most were from Xi Wangshu. Instead of calling back immediately, she sent her a message: "Is your meeting over this morning?"

Almost immediately, Xi Wangshu called, "Baby, you're finally awake. You didn't fall asleep with a wine bottle after I left last night, did you?"

Xi Wangshu has a volatile and easily angered personality. Su Er was just thinking about how to tell her about what happened last night when she heard her say, "You're at the hotel, right? I have some time to rest at noon, so I'll come and hang out with you for a while."

Su Er quickly interrupted her, "I'm not here."

"Not here?"

"Hmm." Su Er put down her spoon and briefly described what happened last night to her.

Sure enough, no sooner had he finished speaking than Xi Wangshu shouted, "Damn it! What a pervert! If I ever see him, I'll kick him to pieces!"

Su Er reassured her calmly, "I'm fine, that person has already been arrested."

Xi Wangshu was still worried. "Where are you? I'm coming to find you."

As soon as she finished speaking, Su Er heard the sound of a door opening on the other end of the phone. She quickly stopped her, saying, "No need. You should focus on your work. I'm here with... Jiang Siyan. It's safe here. Once you're done with your work, we can have some fun in peace. It'll save you from running around like this."

Knowing she was worried, Su Er softened her voice and pleaded, "Okay, I'm really fine. Can you video chat with me?"

Xi Wangshu couldn't resist her constant calls of "my dear Shushu" and reluctantly agreed, "Alright, I'm relieved to have someone with you."

Aunt Cui was right next to her. She overheard a few words and, seeing that she had hung up the phone, she touched her head, feeling extremely distressed: "I was wondering why you came back so late last night. Look at your swollen eyelids, you must have been scared. In this world, how can there still be people like this?"

Su Er squeezed Aunt Cui's hand, "There was a little, but it's fine now."

Despite saying that, after hearing what she said, Aunt Cui couldn't help but think that Su Er had recently lost weight and looked like she had been frightened; in short, she looked very unwell.

Aunt Cui kept adding food to her plate. If Su Er hadn't stopped her, Aunt Cui probably would have immediately made her a ginseng chicken soup to nourish her.

Su Er ate until her belly was round and she really couldn't eat anymore. Fortunately, she had lost too much weight recently, and the director told her to eat more and gain some weight, so Su Er dared to eat so recklessly.

After dinner, Su Er didn't rush to pack her luggage. Instead, she sat on a soft couch by the sunlit window, using an iron spoon to soothe her eyes while scrolling through her phone with the other.
