Chapter 24 is also a kind of fate.

Su Boyuan slammed down her cup, her face full of disappointment and frustration. "Argue? Do you think we want to argue with you? If you had chosen the right path from the start, would your mother and I be so worried about you!"

He Yi frowned slightly, as if looking at a naughty child. "Yes, Er'er, do you really dislike the path your parents chose? You can't joke around with your future, and you shouldn't be upset about it."

Just sulking...

Her persistence, which she started in high school, seems like a joke.

But Su Er couldn't do it, nor could she raise her voice to blame them.

She has also interviewed many children who complained that their parents did not care for or love them enough, and that their families of origin were not harmonious.

Their rebellion and resistance were so reasonable and well-founded.

But Su Er was different; she knew that her parents truly loved her.

I was afraid she would go astray, afraid she would be blinded by the glitz and glamour of the outside world, and afraid that her personality would suffer in such a world of fame and fortune.

Even when he's angry, he won't slam his fist on the table or yell at her.

Sometimes, even Su Er herself felt that her parents' evaluations of her seemed somewhat biased.

She was always speechless in the face of this.

Su Er lowered her eyes, her fingertips resting on her knees fidgeting unconsciously, her voice so low it seemed as if it might be blown away by the wind at any moment, "Dad, Mom, I'm tired, I want to go back and rest first."

Director Su sighed. Seeing her like this, he wanted to say something more, "Er'er..."

He Yi patted Su Boyuan's hand and gave him a wink, with a hint of helplessness, "Alright, let her rest."

"Then I'll go back to my room."

Seeing that Su Boyuan and the others nodded, Su Er got up and quietly closed the door.

She let out a heavy breath and silently began to pack her luggage.

After all, I hadn't been back for a year, and my suitcase was bulging with stuff. I spent ages unpacking, but there was still a huge pile of stuff lying on the bed.

There was a knock on the door, and He Yi's urging voice came from outside, "Er'er, it's getting late, you should get some rest."

Su Er glanced at the time; it was ten o'clock, the time when the lights in the house were turned off.

"Okay," she replied, turning off the light and making sure the footsteps outside the door were far away before rummaging through a compartment in her suitcase to find a cigarette case and a lighter.

Su Er pushed open the window a crack, lit a cigarette as if it were a favor, squatted down under the window, and only let out a little bit of the cigarette butt that was flashing scarlet.

Halfway through her smoke, her phone suddenly vibrated, and the brightness of the screen made her squint involuntarily.

Robot: [Are you asleep?]

Upon seeing this name, Su Er suddenly recalled the absurd moment from last night, and a fleeting hint of unease crossed her eyes.

She held her phone for a moment before slowly unlocking it and typing back: "Mr. Jiang, is there anything I can help you with?"

Jiang Siyan always seemed to lack the patience for cold, impersonal text communication. The next second, his phone vibrated so hard in Su Er's palm that it went numb.

After a moment's hesitation, Su Er answered the call, keeping her voice very low for fear of her parents finding out, and called him, "Mr. Jiang."

"Are you a thief?"

"Isn't that stealing?" Su Er thought to herself.

She still spoke in a low voice, "May I ask what's the matter?"

Jiang Siyan coaxed her, asking, "Er'er, why haven't you messaged me these past two days?"

It's a gentle kind of charm that makes people willingly fall into a trap even when they know it's a trap.

Su Er's attitude remained cold and hard. "I was afraid you were busy and didn't want to bother you."

Jiang Siyan put down the documents in his hand, chuckled softly, and said, "When have I ever not answered your calls?"

Su Er stopped talking. Jiang Siyan seemed to know that she couldn't resist such sweet talk, so he especially liked to tease her like this.

But he always managed to easily change the subject before Su Er could get angry at his frivolity.

Jiang Siyan asked, "Where are we? I'll take you to Uncle Zhang's for dinner."

His invitation was so natural that Su Er blew a puff of smoke towards the window crack without refusing, saying, "At home."

Jiang Siyan simply said two words, "Address."

Su Er suddenly smiled, her eyes gleaming with a sly light.

Of course, Jiang Siyan was completely unaware of this.

He only heard Su Er give the name of an unfamiliar neighborhood, which she then told the driver. The driver was also taken aback and searched for it using the navigation system.

There are several residential communities with the same name across the country, but Beicheng is the only one without it.

The driver asked Jiang Siyan with some difficulty, "Sir, which city is it?"

Su Er couldn't help but laugh when she heard the question coming from the receiver.

Jiang Siyan showed no annoyance at being teased; instead, his brows unfurled at her laughter, and he asked, "Not in Beicheng?"

Su Er, unable to hide her smug provocation, said, "Mr. Jiang, my home is in the south of the city. Are you still going to pick me up for dinner?"

Jiang Siyan said, "It is a bit far..."

Su seemed to have expected this and was about to end the conversation, "If there's nothing else..."

"But it's not impossible."

Her words were interrupted by Jiang Siyan's confident tone, as if he would definitely come as long as she asked.

Su Er was startled; the burning smoke brought a burning pain to her fingertips.

She quickly stubbed out her cigarette, stood up while holding onto the windowsill, and opened the window wider.

As the smell of tobacco faded, Su Er regained her composure and said coldly, "Forget it, Mr. Jiang. I'll treat you to dinner when I get back to Beicheng. I need to rest now. Is there anything else?"

With her indifferent tone, Jiang Siyan could almost picture her preparing to hang up the phone without any hesitation.

Jiang Siyan called out to her, "Ner'er."

Su Er's grip on her phone tightened involuntarily.

He said, "Don't forget to message me, okay?"

The rising tone at the end of the note, tender and lingering, seemed to contain some kind of expectation, gradually gripping her beating heart.

But clearly, they've only met a few times, haven't they?

Could genuine feelings possibly arise from just a few brief encounters?

Su Er herself thought the idea was naive.

She had assumed that Jiang Siyan had forgotten about her since he hadn't sent her any messages during the past week.

What was the opportunity that made him remember himself again?

There's probably only one reason.

—The night was just too long.

Su Er gazed at the somber night outside the window, a landscape completely different from that of Beicheng, calm and serene.

However, the two people, who had met several times, found themselves connected under the same moonlight in two different cities.

She asked herself if that was also a kind of fate.

Su Er's gaze gradually became lost in the pale yellow halo under the streetlights.

For the first time, she also felt that saying no was such a difficult thing.

She hesitated for a moment, then finally gave in to herself and said, "Okay."

Jiang Siyan silently curled the corners of his lips and said, "Sweet dreams, Er'er."
