Chapter 49 We can't get past this hurdle, can we?

"Let go of me first, I need to make a phone call to Sister Qin." Su Er supported his shoulder and tried to stand up.

Jiang Siyan was quite generous this time, and even reached out to steady her.

Su Er took her phone, walked to a tree nearby, and dialed a number.

A moment later, the call connected. There was still a lot of background noise on Lin Shuqin's end, so the dinner party probably hadn't ended yet.

Su Er kicked at the pebbles under her feet and said, "Sister Qin, I'm not going back tonight."

She didn't have anything planned for tomorrow, so Lin Shuqin didn't say much, only reminding her not to keep talking too much during the holidays, or her skin would suffer.

Su Er nodded habitually and said okay.

After finishing the call, I turned around and saw Jiang Siyan still sitting on the stone bench, holding a cigarette in one hand and swiping on the screen with the other.

Su Er looked at the scene and couldn't think of any fancy words for a moment. She just felt that Jiang Siyan's face was really good-looking and his nose was really straight.

She ran over quietly, wrapped her arms around his neck from behind, and leaned half her weight on Jiang Siyan.

Jiang Siyan wasn't startled by her, but his body swayed slightly involuntarily. He was about to reach out and pull her into his arms when...

Su Er snatched the half-smoked cigarette from his hand, took a deep drag, and leaned into his arms, exhaling a cloud of smoke into his face.

Su Er had actually wanted to do this since their first meeting, even though she had smoked cigarettes offered to her by him from his cigarette case in front of the window, none of them seemed to smell as good as this one.

Jiang Siyan gazed at Su Er's face, hidden behind a thin layer of bluish-white mist. Her raised eyebrows exuded a bewitching charm, and the mist itself added an air of mystery to her face.

Even Jiang Siyan couldn't help but sigh that Su Er was indeed very suitable to be an actress; she had a face that was perfect for a director's brushstrokes.

Before Su Er could even take a few puffs, Jiang Siyan snatched the cigarette from her hand and put it back in his mouth, imbuing it with the sweet fragrance of the young girl.

Su Er frowned in displeasure and reached out to snatch it again, "Hey, what are you doing? I haven't finished smoking yet."

Jiang Siyan tilted his head back to avoid her attack, and Su Er muttered a complaint: "It's just a cigarette, why be so stingy?"

Jiang Siyan quickly finished the last few puffs of his cigarette, leaving her no room for further thought. "What are you saying?"

"I didn't say anything." She admitted defeat quickly.

Jiang Siyan didn't know if he was really getting old, but he always liked to say a few words of reason. He had just stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray when he put his arm around her and said, "Young lady, smoke less."

Upon hearing this, Su Er sensed something was amiss and sat up straight, launching into a tirade: "You're being unfair! You smoke yourself, and what do you mean by 'young girls should smoke less' and 'gender equality'..."

If they keep talking like this, they might become adversaries in the next second.

Jiang Siyan leaned down and kissed her lips. The courtyard fell silent instantly, with only the sound of the wind rustling through the leaves in their ears.

Her lips were soft, and the waist she held in her palms was soft; only the words she spoke were hard.

After the kiss ended, Jiang Siyan rubbed his nose against hers and said, "Why are you making so many excuses?"

Su Er buried her face in his chest, feeling weak and unwilling to speak.

"Will I carry you inside?" A low, husky voice sounded above my head.

Su Er suddenly felt energized and jumped off him, saying, "I can walk by myself."

She wasn't shy when we were kissing, but now she's shy, and I don't know what's making her awkward.

As soon as she entered the house, she bumped into Aunt Cui pouring water in the kitchen. Su Er stopped in her tracks, her ears turning red instantly. "Aunt Cui... you've been in the kitchen the whole time."

The aunt responded, her expression unchanged, "Oh, Miss Su, is there anything I can help you with?"

Su Er was secretly annoyed; how could she have believed him so easily?

Her face turned even redder, and she just wanted to find a crack in the ground to crawl into. "No... Aunt Cui, you don't need to be so polite. Just call me Xiao Er... Also, I've finished eating. I'll go and bring the bowl in."

As she spoke, Su Er lowered her head and tried to escape outside. Just thinking about the scene in the yard where Jiang Siyan had kissed her until her face turned red and her legs went weak made her feel too ashamed to face anyone.

Su Er turned her head and bumped straight into Jiang Siyan's arms.

Jiang Siyan grabbed her by the back of the neck like he was carrying a kitten, and pulled her into his arms, leading her upstairs. "Aunt Cui, thank you for your help outside."

"Okay, I knew it. Miss Su is being too polite."

Jiang Siyan chuckled, stopped going upstairs, and looked at her red ears as he said downstairs, "Aunt Cui, you don't understand. She's easily embarrassed. She'll throw a tantrum when she gets upstairs."

Su Er reached out and pinched his waist, "Jiang Siyan!"

Jiang Siyan pretended to cry out in pain, and Su Er hurriedly covered his mouth. His steps on the stairs became disordered, and the well-maintained stairs made two "creaking" sounds.

Hearing the commotion, Aunt Cui instructed people to speed up their work, and couldn't help but smile. It had been so long since she had seen Jiang Siyan act like this since he grew up.

Once Su Er went upstairs, she naturally stopped arguing with Jiang Siyan. One reason was because of what Jiang Siyan had said to Aunt Cui; she didn't want him to have the chance to show an expression that said, "See, I told you so."

Secondly, she didn't come away empty-handed; at least she managed to get a new cigarette from the one Jiang Siyan had taken from her.

Jiang Siyan's bedroom is on the second floor, with a terrace. It's not a very high floor, but the view is excellent, offering a glimpse of the twinkling lights of countless homes in the distance.

She rested her elbows on the railing of the terrace, exhaling puffs of smoke as she looked from afar to near the tall persimmon tree, recalling what Jiang Siyan had said.

Although it sounds far-fetched, such words always seem to have a magical power to make people smile.

Su Er suddenly had a whimsical idea and asked the person next to her, "Jiang Siyan, what were you like when you were a child?"

Jiang Siyan said indifferently, "A little rascal."

His self-evaluation is quite unique.

Then came the crisp sound of a lighter being flipped open, a pleasant sound to the ear.

Su Er was considering whether to buy one for herself once she made some money when she heard Jiang Siyan ask, "What about you?"

“Me?” Su Er thought for a moment, then counted on her fingers as she told him, “Playing the piano, reading, dancing, practicing calligraphy, painting…”

She finished breaking the pieces with one hand and still showed no sign of stopping.

Jiang Siyan chuckled, "You're planning to sign me up for a talent show."

Su Eryang raised his voice and said, "Really! In short, he's either in front of the teacher or on his way to class."

Jiang Siyan flicked off his cigarette ash, looking at her with a half-smile, "So obedient?"

Su Er rolled her eyes, leaned against the railing, and said in a meaningful tone, "You must have done bad things too."

Jiang Siyan narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint in them. "You can't get past this hurdle, can you?"

The cigarette in Su Er's hand had just burned out. She nimbly dodged his hand that was about to grab her, ran into the room, and said with a carefree smile, "I'm going to take a shower."
