As soon as Jiang Siyan returned to the sofa, someone handed him a glass of wine. "Oh, it's not easy, you finally decided to come over. Why didn't you bring your precious little darling with you?"
Jiang Siyan took the wine glass, glanced at Ji Hong, and said, "You're too noisy. You'll scare people again."
"Hey, this is so sickeningly sweet. Besides, how can you belittle your brother like that?" Ji Hong shouted.
Lu Yunzhong patted Ji Hong on the back, adding insult to injury, "This little fairy, Old Jiang treasures her. I heard from Old Meng that last time the two of them had a fight, it was Old Jiang who ran over to coax them. You should watch your words."
Lu Yunzhong took a sip of wine, recalling the glimpse of their affectionate glance earlier, and couldn't help but say, "Old Jiang, you're spoiling him too much. Aren't you afraid that if you spoil him too much, things will get messy later?"
Jiang Siyan's expression was indifferent. Hearing this, he simply smiled and said, "Just spoil them. It's not like we can't afford to spoil them."
Ji Hong exaggeratedly covered one side, "Ouch, no, it's so cloying it's making my teeth hurt. Old Jiang, you'll have to pay for this medical bill."
The banquet hall doors opened and closed, and people came in one after another.
"That must be Miss Cheng." Ji Hong, always eager for drama, nudged Jiang Siyan's hand. "Hey! She's looking this way!"
Jiang Siyan withdrew his gaze from Su Er, glanced at him, and said unhurriedly, "What's wrong? Why are you so excited? Do you like her?"
“It’s not that I like her, it’s that your father-in-law prefers her as his daughter-in-law. I even saw Uncle Cheng having dinner with your father-in-law just a couple of days ago.”
Jiang Siyan listened impatiently, "What business is it of mine if they eat their own food? They're just busy with nothing."
Ji Hong leaned close to his ear and whispered, "He's planning to bring the little fairy into the house."
Jiang Siyan got annoyed by his words and shoved him away, saying, "Are you bored out of your mind all day long, asking around about this and that?"
Ji Hong was used to his scolding and said matter-of-factly, "I'm just showing concern for my brother."
"Why don't you ever show any concern for me?" Meng Zhaoqi had come over with Mo Qingshu at some point. He hooked one arm around Ji Hong's neck and leaned half his body on him.
"You?" Ji Hong glanced at him with a hint of disdain. "Nine out of ten of your sentences are about how sweet you are to your wife and how much she cares about you. If that's the case, I must be out of my mind to make myself suffer."
Meng Zhaoqi had no objection to this, "My wife and I are quite sweet. Think about it, Qingshu and I were childhood sweethearts..."
Ji Hong covered his ears and begged Mo Qingshu for help. He had heard this passage countless times since Meng Zhaoqi and Mo Qingshu got married. He could recite it from beginning to end fluently. He was afraid that if he listened to it any longer, he would feel physically nauseous.
Mo Qingshu didn't bother with them and turned to ask Jiang Siyan, "Brother Siyan, didn't you say Xiao'er would be coming too? Where is she?"
Hearing this, Meng Zhaoqi finally let Ji Hong go and started nagging Jiang Siyan, "Old Jiang, I have to give you some advice. Keep a closer eye on your little fairy. I don't know what tricks she's used, but she's almost stolen my wife's heart."
Mo Qingshu coldly retorted, "Meng Zhaoqi, aren't you annoying?"
This time they behaved themselves.
Jiang Siyan turned to look at the figure swinging his legs on the swing chair in front of him, and said, "He took the cake and went to the terrace to enjoy the snow."
At a glance, by sheer coincidence, she saw Zhao Linsheng reach out to brush her hair aside, and she smiled radiantly at him.
Anyone who sees this would probably have to say, what a perfect couple!
Deep in my heart, it's as if a tiny, almost imperceptible splinter has fallen into me. It's not a deep, bone-chilling pain, but every time my fingers clasp together, it's a piercing agony that shouldn't be underestimated.
Jiang Siyan downed the wine in one gulp and suddenly stood up.
Not only Jiang Siyan saw what just happened, but everyone in the circle saw it.
"Should we stop him? Lin Sheng can't take a beating from Old Jiang." Ji Hong stared in the direction of Jiang Siyan, ready to rush up and stop him at any moment.
Meng Zhaoqi calmly raised his glass to watch the show, saying, "Old Chiang isn't like you; he's not so impulsive. He always uses underhanded tactics."
Mo Qingshu worriedly stepped forward: "Xiao Er should be alright, right?"
Meng Zhaoqi quickly pulled her back, "Don't go over there. This is a personal matter. Think about it, when the two of us argue, it's not like a few words of advice from others can make things better."
The group kept their eyes glued to the three men, but still managed to spare a moment for some banter, saying, "Wow, Old Meng, you've really mastered it, a master of emotions!"
Su Er and Zhao Linsheng haven't spoken another word since their initial greetings and thanks.
Zhao Linsheng continued to tend to the stove fire, while Su Er stared blankly at the snow scene outside the window, with an unusual sense of tranquility.
The two looked up together when the door was pushed open.
Zhao Linsheng put down the firewood in his hand, and unlike his usual friendly tone, a hint of unease was hidden in his voice. "Brother Siyan."
Jiang Siyan did not respond to him.
Su Er didn't get up, but reached out and took his hand, saying happily, "You're here."
Jiang Siyan gently pressed the back of his hand against her cheek, which was warmed by the firelight. "What did you talk about? You seem so happy."
Su Er said frankly, "Mr. Zhao said this oven can roast sweet potatoes."
"Want some?"
"Um."
"I'll have someone bring two over." Jiang Siyan pointed behind her. "Qingshu has arrived and is looking for you."
Su Er turned her head and, sure enough, met Mo Qingshu's gaze. She grinned in surprise, intending to wave, but...
Su Er nervously squeezed Jiang Siyan's hand, "Why...are they all looking at us?"
"A big star like him is afraid of being seen?"
"No, that's not it." Su Er rolled her eyes at him. "Alright, I'm going to find Sister Qing Shu now. Bring me the roasted sweet potatoes, okay?"
