Chapter 56 I Can't Understand Him

Jiang Siyan was actually very casual about eating; he didn't have any particular cravings for food, and was more concerned with filling his stomach.

Surprisingly, he ate quite a lot today, and by the end of the meal, he had almost finished all the dishes on the table.

Jiang Siyan put down his chopsticks and asked, "Are you really not staying here tonight?"

Su Er had already told him yesterday that she would only stay one night, as she was flying to Shanghai tomorrow for an event.

I don't know what's bothering the girl, even though this place is much more convenient for getting to the airport.

“If we stay another night, I’m afraid some of the older folks might not be able to control themselves.” Su Er whispered in his ear, smiling broadly. “You went for a run early this morning, didn’t you? Aunt Cui said you don’t usually run on weekends, and you were so irritable this morning.”

Jiang Siyan raised an eyebrow slightly upon hearing this. "It's only been an afternoon, and you've already turned Aunt Cui to your side? I need to call Aunt Cui over and ask her about it."

As soon as he finished speaking, he made a gesture as if he was about to shout.

Su Er quickly covered his mouth, "Hey! Don't! How can you do this!"

The breath emanating from their palms was fiery hot. With each breath, their eyes met, and the humid heat stirred an unusual throbbing in their hearts.

Su Er looked somewhat bewildered and avoided his overly intense gaze, abruptly pulling her hand back and hiding it behind her back. "I'll go pack my things."

Jiang Siyan watched her retreating figure and couldn't help but chuckle softly. She ran faster than a rabbit, but then suddenly became inexplicably shy.

The nanny had already washed, dried, and folded the clothes. She packed them into the bag she brought with her, and that was about it.

Su Er went downstairs with her bag and immediately saw Jiang Siyan smoking under the eaves lamplight.

Hearing her come downstairs, Jiang Siyan stubbed out his cigarette. "Ready?"

"Yes, you're going to give me a ride."

She had assumed he would arrange for a driver to take her home.

“I brought you here, so why wouldn’t I take you back?” Jiang Siyan reached out and took her hand.

Su Er nodded, but her attention was elsewhere. She reached behind him to look at his other hand. "Where's the cigarette? Did you put it out?"

Jiang Siyan shrugged and spread his hands, "That's all, just the last one."

Su Er wrinkled her nose and sniffed. The lingering tobacco scent in the air whetted her appetite. She complained, "You did that on purpose!"

Jiang Siyan had a smug look on his face that said, "I am who I am, what can you do to me?"

Su Er was so angry that she bent her elbow to hit him, but the next second, Aunt Cui came out of the house with a lunchbox. "Xiao Er, here, Aunt Cui made some snacks. Take them home and eat them when you're hungry. Homemade is always better than what you get outside."

Su Er quickly composed herself, thanked Aunt Cui, and even hugged her, stopping her from taking the umbrella. "Aunt Cui, it's still raining outside, please don't see me off."

Hearing her sweet, soft voice, Jiang Siyan couldn't help but smile. How many years must she have practiced since childhood to become so skilled at changing her expression?

Hearing Jiang Siyan's laughter, Su Er turned her head, pouted, and widened her eyes. Jiang Siyan, seemingly oblivious, put his arm around her shoulder and said, "Aunt Cui, I'll take her home first. Don't wait for me, go to sleep."

Jiang Siyan opened his large umbrella and embraced her completely. His bare arms, apart from the warmth of his palms, seemed to feel no wind or rain.

The car's headlights shone on the wall, illuminating a world as bright as day. Su Er could clearly see the direction of the slanting raindrops in the midst of the torrential rain.

She tilted her head slightly, her eyes finally landing on Jiang Siyan's shoulder, and as expected, they welled up with tears.

Su Er recalled this moment many years later, when she was no longer just an empty title of "most promising actress".

The name Su Er has almost become synonymous with the quality of her works.

In contrast to her booming career, her relationship with Jiang Siyan was turbulent. She repeatedly recalled the past, trying to find every piece of evidence that he loved her.

But all these accumulated details seem unable to conceal that chilling moment.

Despite the rain, the car drove directly to the hotel entrance, and Su Er was once again fully armed.

She didn't rush to get out of the car. With her hand on the door handle, she turned around and said, "Wait a moment, I have something to give you. Go upstairs and get it."

Jiang Siyan grabbed her arm, "Aren't you tired of running up and down? I'll go up with you."

Su Er shook off his hand, pushed open the car door, and muttered as she closed it, "Oh, no need. You've already brought me here. The rain won't get me wet. It's just a few steps. Besides, it would be troublesome if we got photographed. Just wait for me."

The driver glanced at Jiang Siyan, unsure of the situation, "Sir, shall we..."

The little girl has already spoken, what else can we do?

Jiang Siyan said calmly, "Wait."

Running up and down only took a few minutes, but Su Er was afraid that Jiang Siyan would get impatient, so she jogged as fast as she could.

She was running so fast that she was panting heavily as she held onto the window sill when the car window was rolled down.

Jiang Siyan frowned. "What's the rush? Do you think I can't wait for you?"

Su Er took a deep breath, and her chest finally calmed down, no longer heaving so violently.

She didn't get back into the car. She shook her hands, which were wet with raindrops, and handed him the gift box through the window, saying in a haughty tone, "Here, I bought this for you."

Jiang Siyan took the box and asked, "What's this? A gift?"

"Yes, I bought it for you when I went shopping with Sister Qin after the audition that day."

She was full of joy and anticipation when she bought it, but they argued the very next day.

Su Er thought that she would never have the chance to give it to him again.

Jiang Siyan opened the gift box and glanced inside. It contained two dark blue square cufflinks, their deep blue color reflecting a dim light.
