Chapter 104 Junior Sister Switches to the Path of Ruthlessness 15 Daoist Partner
"You will be my Daoist partner."
Lin Yuwan held her tightly.
Yun Chiyi chuckled, her dimples appearing and disappearing on her cheeks. She pressed her face close to his, her hair brushing against his face.
"A Daoist partner must be of one mind and genuinely love each other, not someone you're just having a passing fancy with. Let go, I won't allow it."
Lin Yuwan's smile vanished as she caught another piece of information: "Senior Sister, aren't you cultivating the Path of Ruthlessness? Who else do you want to entrust your heart to?"
The pill was almost ready. Yun Chiyi withdrew her spiritual power, turned around and pushed Lin Yuwan away from her: "You asked first, so I answered. Don't try to shift the blame."
She straightened her clothes, which he had wrinkled, and said softly with her head down, "You just want to use this high-sounding reason to imprison and torture me."
Lin Yuwan smiled and said, "Senior Sister found out."
Yun Chiyi looked up and met his smiling eyes: "Yes, Lin Yuwan, I'm not stupid. Daoist partners should cultivate both spirit and body. You despise me so much, how could you possibly do that?"
Lin Yuwan's smile vanished. He leaned down and lightly kissed her lips, then quickly looked away to observe her expression.
She was also looking at him, her eyes indifferent as a lake. She wiped her lips with the back of her hand, opened the alchemy furnace to take out the pills, and expressionlessly placed them into Lin Yuwan's hand.
"No need for such a complicated process. You can achieve the same goal of torturing me by breaking my legs and locking me up."
She then added casually, "It's almost dawn, we should go back."
Lin Yuwan lagged half a step behind, her pinky finger tracing her lower lip. Her half-closed eyes held an endless darkness, as if she were pondering the possibilities behind Yun Chiyi's words.
The sky turned grayish-white, and the first ray of sunlight shone on Yun Chiyi's right shoulder. She walked slowly, her back view aloof and ethereal, like an untouchable immortal.
The moonlight at night and the sunlight in the early morning both rushed to fall on her... Lin Yuwan looked at her with drooping eyes, then flashed and followed her shadow.
His footsteps followed her shadow, each step accompanied by a particularly heavy tread.
Yun Chiyi was well aware of his little tricks. She glanced at him and found it quite amusing. Without making a sound, she walked even faster.
Back at the inn, Lin Yuwan didn't follow. After Yun Chiyi climbed in through the window, she kicked Wan Qingyun awake.
"Wake up, it's dawn. Go outside and wait by the door."
Wan Qingyun rubbed her sleepy eyes, hummed and sullen as she folded the blanket and put it in the wardrobe, then stood outside the door yawning.
Having spent the entire night refining pills for Lin Yuwan, Yun Chiyi had exhausted too much energy. She sat cross-legged on the bed, closing her eyes to rest.
[Host, why don't you just agree to become Daoist partners with the male supporting character?]
[Perhaps it's because I'm not insane. If it weren't for the Heartless Daoist saving my life, I, a mere cannon fodder, would have died long ago from the torment of the Gu poison. I became his Daoist partner, my Dao heart was damaged, my cultivation was completely dissipated, and my affection level was still negative—was I just supposed to wait to die?]
Anyway, it's still a thousand years or so before Lin Yuwan is stabbed to death, so there's no rush to complete the strategy right now.
Yun Chiyi suppressed the irritation in her heart and the inexplicable bitterness in her chest, and opened her eyes.
[Turn off the affection display. It's all red and negative numbers all day long, it's so annoying.]
The system acted quickly, immediately turning off the monitor. Amidst Yun Chiyi's surging anger, it thought, "Wu Si's decision to have her cultivate the Path of Ruthlessness was indeed a wise one."
That's why the host hasn't scolded it for being incompetent for many years.
Today is the day to collect the hairpin tokens. According to their sect status, disciples of the Qingming Sect and the Cangfeng Sect will have priority in receiving them.
Yun Chiyi arrived late and didn't encounter anyone from the Cangfeng Sect.
Wearing a veil, she strolled idly through the streets, also wanting to hear which disciples from various sects were competing at the Flower-Adorning Banquet.
Now she doesn't care about fame; she only cares about the reward for being the champion of the Flower-Piercing Banquet: so many elixirs, magical artifacts, and ancient magic array diagrams that can help her improve her cultivation and live for several decades or even hundreds of years longer.
In this world where a thousand years pass in the blink of an eye, the most important thing is to live long enough; everything else can wait.
Changlin Town connects the human world and the cultivation world. Benefiting from the annual Flower-Picking Banquet held every fifteen years, the town is as prosperous as a metropolis, with throngs of tourists. Vendors sell human goods as well as magical artifacts and talismans that can only be purchased with spirit stones.
Through the veil, Yun Chiyi saw disciples from some minor sects haggling with vendors, arguing for a long time without reaching a conclusion.
She found it noisy, so she moved aside and walked into a less crowded alley.
A tall figure wearing a black cloak brushed past her, and the two of them stopped and turned around to look at each other as if by some strange coincidence.
A sharp pain shot through her chest, and Yun Chiyi sensed something was wrong. She nodded slightly in apology and left first.
Seeing her turn to leave, the man in the black cloak immediately gave chase.
Hearing footsteps, Yun Chiyi knew that the town forbade the use of magic and prevented her from becoming invisible to evade pursuit, so she quickened her pace and re-entered the crowd.
She turned her head to glance behind her, but when she turned back, she bumped into someone, knocking off her veil.
The white veil slipped down before her eyes, and she slightly furrowed her brow, meeting a pair of deep and calm eyes.
"Senior sister, where are you rushing off to?"
Lin Yuwan hooked her right arm around Yun Chi's waist, and the two of them fell backward. Yun Chi thought they were going to fall into the canal below, but unexpectedly, she and Lin Yuwan landed on the cruise ship with a thud.
She fell onto Lin Yuwan without feeling any pain. She tried to look up to find the figure of the man in black behind her, but Lin Yuwan reached out and pressed the back of her head, pinning her against her chest. She then quickly rolled over and used her body to block her from view.
His dark hair slid down from his shoulders and neck, gently brushing against Yun Chiyi's cheeks. Yun Chiyi brushed it aside with her fingers, her gaze passing over his shoulder to see the man in black blindly spinning in place.
As the boat passed under the bridge, Yun Chiyi pushed Lin Yuwan's shoulder away and sat down in the cabin.
Lin Yuwan sat on the ground for a moment before getting up and coming in.
There was a boatman at the stern, and she and he were facing each other in the cabin.
Lin Yuwan swept the dust off the low table with her sleeve and poured two cups of tea.
"Who were you hiding from just now, Senior Sister? Do you have other enemies?"
The shimmering light on the river reflected off half of Lin Yuwan's face. Yun Chiyi glanced at her a few more times, then picked up her teacup and said helplessly, "Do you still remember the man in black from Chengming?"
Lin Yuwan's smile gradually faded, her face turning ashen: "It's them?"
Yun Chiyi took a sip of tea to calm her nerves: "I can't be completely sure, but I'm fairly certain that if it really is them, they're probably after you and me."
"Just now, it sensed it." She pressed her hand to her chest.
Lin Yuwan placed her hand on the back of her hand, lowered her eyes, and said, "Why isn't mine reacting at all?"
His hands were long and warm. Yun Chiyi took a step back uncomfortably, then shook off his wrist, her beautiful eyes slightly narrowed.
Lin Yuwan sat with her legs bent, leaning back comfortably: "Are you shy?"
Yun Chiyi changed the subject: "Where's your hairpin?"
Lin Yuwan took it out of her bosom and casually tossed it onto the table.
"If I'm paired with my senior sister in the first match, would you like to team up with me, or would you like to compete against me?"
The Flower-Piercing Banquet competition is divided into three rounds. The first round is free team formation, where participants work together to slay powerful demons. As long as no one is killed, the disciples are allowed to compete for the first opportunity to kill the demons. The team that kills the most powerful demons in the illusion over three days and three nights wins. Each member of the winning team will receive an Ice Mountain Snow Lotus.
Lin Yuwan asked, "Why isn't Senior Sister saying anything?"
Yun Chiyi calmly analyzed the situation and slowly said, "The men in black must have something to do with infiltrating Changlin Town. If you separate from me, I think that if you are caught, you will confess to me without being tortured."
Lin Yuwan nodded her chin calmly: "Yeah, you're right. I'd rather die than let you get away with this."
He was always like this, nothing unusual. Yun Chiyi looked at the disciples of the immortal sects on both sides of the river and whispered, "Which faction do they belong to?"
Demons?
The Mother-Child Gu is an evil spell, and the man in black is relentlessly pursuing it. Could it be to revive Qiu Kun?
Wasn't Qiu Kun resurrected after Lin Yuwan died, which is more than two thousand years ago?
Yun Chiyi dared not gamble. In the original story, only one of Chengming disciples, Lin Yuwan, survived. Now, she, who was carrying the mother Gu, has also survived. The child Gu alone could not revive Qiu Kun. But what if the mother and child Gu were together? Would it change the course of the entire book?
Isn't she just cannon fodder? She doesn't want to start a war between humans and demons!
This is such a headache!
Seeing that she was lost in thought with her lips slightly pursed, Lin Yuwan tapped the table lightly: "Senior Sister."
Yun Chiyi's myriad thoughts vanished instantly, and she raised her clear eyes.
Lin Yuwan tilted her head and looked at her: "Back in Chengming, on the first day you were trapped in the cave by Chang Heng, you showed this expression. You were worried about getting involved with Qiu Kun again and getting into trouble."
"Senior sister, the Gu worms are not invincible."
Lin Yuwan chuckled softly, "All you need to do is rip out your heart, and the Gu worms will die along with it."
Yun Chiyi said speechlessly, "Then it's the same as burning you to death. If the container is broken, the insects won't survive either."
She stood up at the bow of the boat, her toes lightly touching the water as she stepped onto the shore.
Lin Yuwan took off her veil and didn't chase after her.
Yun Chiyi didn't linger outside and went straight back to the inn. As soon as she stepped inside, she found it in complete chaos. Several senior brothers were chasing and beating Wan Qingyun, who was running from upstairs to downstairs, creating a mess.
She shouldn't have come back at this time. Without thinking, she turned to leave, when suddenly a pair of hands appeared and hugged her legs. Yun Chiyi looked over calmly and saw Wan Qingyun lying on the ground, not letting her leave.
Seeing this, the senior students rushed to speak.
"Junior sister, you're back just in time. Junior brother went to collect the hairpin tokens on our backs."
Wan Qingyun cried and screamed in protest: "Someone insisted on shoving the sign at me, and I couldn't throw it away even if I wanted to."
"That's utter nonsense. We went through several rounds of selection to get these spots. You think you can just take them like that? You must have stolen them."
"I've said it dozens of times, it wasn't stolen or robbed."
Yun Chiyi's temples were throbbing from the noise, and not wanting to get involved, she simply closed her eyes and pretended to faint.
"Junior sister, junior sister!"
Several people hurriedly helped her up and carried her to her room upstairs.
"It's all your fault, Wan Qingyun, that made your junior sister faint."
Wan Qingyun argued vehemently: "I didn't do anything!"
"Keep your voices down, don't disturb your junior sister's rest. Go and invite the junior brother from the Spirit Medicine Hall over."
