Chapter 11 The Fake Heiress Runs Away from Her Wedding 11 Raincoats
It was cold and raining on the mountain. When the match point came, Yun Chiyi leaned on the railing, tiptoed, and cheered with the others. After a few rounds, her body warmed up considerably.
She gave herself a thumbs-up and tilted her head proudly: "Where would you find such a professional cheerleading squad late at night?"
The damp air soaked her curly hair, and raindrops dotted her red lips. Her clothes were slightly damp, clinging softly to her slender waist.
Lin Jishen ignored her words, took out a small bottle from his pocket with one hand, opened it and drank it all. Goosebumps rose on his skin under his thin clothes because of the heat.
Yun Chiyi knew where that sweet scent on him came from. Her smile froze on her lips, replaced by surprise and incomprehension.
"Drinking while racing? Lin Jishen, are you crazy? At that speed, you can't even control the steering wheel, and you'll get hurt if you brake too slowly."
Lin Jishen's eyes were indifferent as he threw the trash into the bin: "It's very cold tonight."
She hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but then stopped.
He looked over, water droplets from his hair sliding down his nose and onto his thin lips: "Are you worried about me?"
The sound was muffled, and there was an unformed black mist in his eyes, as if it wanted to devour everything.
Yun Chiyi parted her red lips slightly: "Something must have happened."
Lin Jishen smiled as he stared at the moving lights, clapping his hands together: "It's nothing."
His condition tonight must be serious.
As the rain gradually subsided, everyone's enthusiasm waned, and they huddled together to talk to Yun Chiyi.
Gong Mufeng took off his helmet, clearly having had a great time.
"Xiaoyi, I'll teach you how to play next time."
"Okay, but it looks a little scary."
"New drivers should slow down to avoid making mistakes."
Gong Mufeng flicked his hair, shaking off the water droplets: "By the way, you said you wanted to go to a bar last time. They happen to have a party tonight. Do you want to go home to sleep or go with me?"
The task is complete; Yun Chiyi has no interest in bars.
Yun Chiyi squinted her crescent-shaped eyes and said, "I want to go home and edit the video. I collected a lot of material tonight and I can't wait any longer. I'll send it to you when I'm done."
Gong Mufeng agreed: "I didn't expect you to like it so much. I should have asked you out sooner."
"Then I'll take her back to sleep," Lin Jishen volunteered.
Gong Mufeng was overjoyed that someone was helping to take care of this hot potato.
When they parted, Gong Mufeng handed Yun Chiyi the car keys: "I heard that after you saw your brother's SUV, you also wanted a car. This new model is easy for girls to drive, so consider it a little gift for you accompanying me tonight."
The image of Gu Chi's SUV flashed through Yun Chiyi's mind, and she couldn't help but shiver. Her brain quickly realized that someone must have leaked the news that she wanted the car to Gong Mufeng.
Gu Zhao is still a big sieve behind the scenes...
Her alluring eyes still held a smile, and her fair skin, like jade, appeared especially white in the pitch-black night.
She smiled faintly until Lin Jishen tapped her on the back.
"You're so generous, do I have to refuse? I'll drive the car for a while before giving it to you."
Gong Mufeng smiled, waved, and left with the others.
There were only two people and one car left in the venue. Yun Chiyi put the car keys in her pocket, slowly walked to the SUV, stepped on the pedal and pushed hard to get into position.
She touched the steering wheel to feel the texture, and quickly adapted to being the driver: "Get in, you've been drinking, I'll drive for safety's sake."
Lin Jishen closed the umbrella, casually tossed it into the back seat, and sat in the passenger seat with an indifferent expression.
“Chishui Street.” He said the name of the place, his cheeks taut.
Yun Chiyi entered her navigation destination: "It's so far, but you said you would take me home, and it turns out you're making me your free driver."
She said these words with a smile. In the past, Lin Jishen would not let her get involved in his affairs, but tonight seemed different.
The road down the mountain was difficult to travel, so she drove very slowly. Occasionally, the lights from the scattered mountain lights illuminated her beautiful face.
"You take a nap, I'll wake you up when we get there."
Lin Jishen, holding onto the windowsill, tapped on it intermittently: "No need."
Yun Chiyi chewed mint-flavored gum to keep herself awake, as she should normally be asleep by this time.
After the car descended the winding mountain road and arrived at a sparsely populated village, it took another two hours to finally reach the entrance of Chishui Street.
Yun Chiyi turned her head excitedly to call Lin Jishen, but found that he was asleep with his fingers pressed against his forehead.
We agreed not to sleep...
It's a little past five in the morning, and it's still raining here. The convenience store in front is open 24 hours. Yun Chiyi was hungry, so she parked her car behind a tree, opened her umbrella, went downstairs, and bought a bag of chestnut pastries.
When she parked the car, Lin Jishen had already woken up. He had been drinking, getting caught in the rain, and staying up all night in the cold wind, so he didn't look well.
He checked the street name, opened the car door, and stepped out with long legs.
It was cold outside, but his mind quickly cleared.
Yun Chiyi followed him, carrying a bag of chestnut pastries. She stuffed the umbrella into his hand, then pinched the pastries one by one with her slender fingers, her cheeks puffed out as she followed him around the convenience store entrance.
What are you looking for?
Seeing that he didn't respond, she continued eating her chestnut pastry and asked, "Are you hungry? Do you want some late-night snacks?" But she made no attempt to offer him any food.
Lin Jishen said, "Park the car here."
He opened the trunk, took out two sets of dark green disposable raincoats, and put them on Yun Chiyi. She also had a bag of food in her hand.
Yun Chiyi watched him put on his raincoat, the brim of the hat obscuring his eyebrows and eyes, making him look as gloomy as a demon in the rainy night.
She strode after him, saying, "Let's make this clear beforehand: I won't do anything like murder or arson."
His gaze swept over his broad shoulders, and he sneered, "This kind of thing is none of your business."
Seeing that he seemed to be in a better mood after going up the steps, Yun Chiyi asked him if he had eaten dinner, only to find out that he had drunk two mouthfuls of baijiu (Chinese liquor) since noon.
He seems to never know how to take care of his health.
After walking for more than ten minutes on the damp street, the alley was filled with the barking of dogs.
Then Lin Jishen stopped beside a camphor tree that was as thick as two people could hug. Yun Chiyi was caught off guard and saw the white human-shaped circle on the ground, almost bumping into the warning line.
The heavy rain washed away too many traces, leaving only the useful information before us.
Lin Jishen looked calmly at the tree in front of him, but the image of the great fire that had ravaged the Lin family home flashed through his mind.
Twenty years have passed. I wonder if she thought of the Lin family and their two children when she died.
The burns on his back seemed to have been reignited by something; they were itchy and a little painful.
Suddenly, a sharp whistle rang out in front of the dilapidated warehouse door.
The departed soul quickly returned to Lin Jishen's body. He turned around and walked over, while Yun Chiyi followed about two meters away, sorting through the information.
The person who died here should be the Lin family's old nanny. Lin Jishen searched for her for a long time, chasing her from abroad to China, and then to the place where she used to live.
Lin Jishen walked to the warehouse. A young man with a buzz cut was hiding in the darkness and beckoned to him, handing him a stack of papers and a USB drive: "A photocopy of the bankbook, photos of the people she has been in contact with, and a backup of a surveillance camera near her home."
The young man lit a cigarette and sighed regretfully, "She has a lot of money, which she has saved for more than 20 years and hasn't spent much of it."
Lin Jishen examined the items silently.
The young man continued, "When I woke up yesterday, there was a commotion under the tree. When I came over, she was already lying on the ground. I heard that she went up the tree to hide something, slipped, fell, hit her head, and died that night."
Lin Jishen gave a half-smile: "You're really unlucky."
The young man scratched his head: "You could have just had Xiao Li deliver this to you, why did you come all this way in the rain?"
Lin Jishen gestured behind him with his eyes: "We've known each other for many years, and the client wanted to see her off."
The young man looked over and saw only a girl eating pastries; he couldn't see her face clearly or guess her age.
He had long heard that the person who paid to hire people was a woman, and today he finally saw the boss behind it all.
After finishing his business, he returned and was met with Yun Chiyi's indifferent gaze.
She walked for a while, then suddenly found it funny: "I heard everything. You used me to cover your identity."
Lin Jishen said calmly, "And then?"
A sliver of purple light was already on the horizon, dawn was approaching. She walked briskly ahead, took off the hood of her raincoat, and her fluffy hair, glistening with the morning dew, was enveloped in the clean glow of the light.
Suddenly, she turned around gracefully with her hands behind her back and said, "Why don't you treat me to breakfast?"
Lin Jishen stood there looking at her: "Didn't you just eat?"
Yun Chiyi gently shook her head and said, "Late-night snacks are different from breakfast. You're not stingy, are you? I've already helped you, delivering it to you in the middle of the night. You should at least give me a little bit of the gas money."
Lin Jishen was completely sober. He got into the car and gestured for Yun Chiyi to follow: "There are too many people around, let's go somewhere else."
Yun Chiyi nodded happily, thinking about having a hot breakfast.
They left Chishui Street and drove for more than an hour back to the city. There was a long-established breakfast shop by the roadside, with steaming bamboo steamers at the entrance and two lines of menus on an old blackboard.
Yun Chiyi tugged at Lin Jishen's sleeve and pointed outside with delight: "Let's eat here."
Lin Jishen stopped the car and grabbed the back of her collar as she eagerly opened the door: "You haven't taken off your raincoat yet."
As Yun Chiyi tore off her raincoat, she pretended to complain, "Why didn't you remind me sooner? You've made the seats dirty."
Lin Jishen said, "Are you worried about the car?"
"Yes, it's a new car."
Without thinking much, she urged him to get out of the car quickly.
After entering the store, they found a corner seat and sat down. Yun Chiyi looked down at the menu carefully and ordered several dishes recommended by regular customers.
Lin Jishen: "Can you eat it?"
Yun Chiyi replied, "You haven't eaten for a day and a night, aren't you hungry?"
Lin Jishen's eyes darkened; it was only twenty-four hours.
She picked up the sugar jar and added sugar to the black rice porridge, one spoonful after another, stirring the freshly cooked porridge evenly.
Lin Jishen looked up at her movements and refused as she handed him the bowl, saying, "I don't want to eat."
"Fine, I won't eat then." Yun Chiyi ate half a bowl of porridge and casually asked, "Has this thread been severed?"
She was testing his attitude towards her, and he naturally noticed.
He used chopsticks to cut a slit in the xiaolongbao, poured in a little vinegar, and his usually refined eyes revealed the purest joy, the light in them almost manic.
"But they left something new."
As time dragged on, so-called hatred became the reason that sustained him.
He enjoyed watching them panic and slip up, and seeing the vicious, backstabbing behavior they displayed.
That's what he finds interesting.
