Chapter 69 The Delinquent School Beauty Transfer Student 10 Little Teacher
Lin Hengzhi wasn't joking. The next evening, he brought basic exercises to Yun Chiyi's house to tutor her.
I tried refusing, I struggled, I ignored it, but it was all in vain.
A week has dragged on.
Yun Chiyi was living in misery every day, and half of her energy and spirit had been worn away.
At night, the croaking of frogs outside the house could be heard incessantly.
Yun Chiyi lay on the table, oblivious to the noise outside, and dozed off in her arms.
She thinks that doing math problems is a real headache.
"Knock, knock..." A series of knocks, one heavy and one light, sounded from behind.
Yun Chiyi lazily raised her eyelids, her butterfly-like eyelashes fluttering gently. She didn't intend to open the door; she just wanted to see what Lin Hengzhi planned to do.
A moment later, muffled voices could be heard from outside.
Lin Hengzhi's voice carried a hint of doubt: "Auntie, is she asleep so early? Is she taking a day off today?"
Meng Yuan was watching TV in the living room, happily cracking sunflower seeds while holding the remote control: "It's only eight o'clock? How could she be asleep? Tell her that if she doesn't open the door, I won't cook for the next week, and her dad and I will eat out."
As soon as she finished speaking, the door opened, and a resentful face peeked out. Yun Chiyi's eyes were dark and brooding: "You didn't even knock before you came. Didn't you have tutoring? Come in."
Lin Hengzhi nodded slowly.
As he brushed past her, Yun Chiyi smiled at Meng Yuan and said, "Mom, restaurants aren't very hygienic. It's healthier to cook at home."
Meng Yuan looked at the TV smugly: "Don't worry about me. By the way, tell Xiao Lin to eat here tomorrow. It's too tiring for him to go back and forth."
Yun Chiyi smiled coldly: "He said he's not hungry."
Lin Hengzhi's voice followed: "Okay, thank you, Auntie."
After hearing this, Yun Chiyi slammed the door shut, turned around and glared at him: "You still want to eat here?"
Lin Hengzhi sat at his desk, opened his notebook, unscrewed his pen, and handed it to Yun Chiyi: "I'll help out too."
"You're a little bit of everything, you're so versatile." She was practically gritting her teeth as she spoke.
Yun Chiyi took the pen, but stared blankly at the problems he had copied by hand in the workbook. He had some ideas for solving the problems and could write a little bit, but he didn't want to do it.
Lin Hengzhi was also doing practice problems. Without looking up, he said, "There's a problem that the teacher explained before, but some people still got it wrong when doing practice problems. Didn't the teacher say that he would check these students again tomorrow? Why don't you take a look at this problem?"
It is obvious that Yun Chiyi is one of those people.
She twirled her pen and said dismissively, "I can. Who says I can't?"
As soon as she put pen to paper, she sniffed and caught a woody scent.
What do you smell like?
Lin Hengzhi paused, his right hand, which was writing, fell onto the exercise book. He raised his left wrist and smelled it; there was no particular smell.
Seeing his dull expression, Yun Chiyi described it with a smile: "The smell of pine trees on a rainy day."
Lin Hengzhi turned to look at him, his deep black eyes revealing no emotion whatsoever: "Is this your way of avoiding doing your homework? You're bothering me too."
Yun Chiyi scoffed: "Is this all the tricks you've got? Do you think I'd distract you?"
As she spoke, she lowered her head and leaned close to his hand, which was resting on the exercise book, and gently took a breath.
Sure enough, a faint, cool fragrance wafted into my nose.
Feeling her warm breath, Lin Hengzhi withdrew his hand and frowned slightly.
Yun Chiyi smiled, like a mischievous cat: "That's what you call skill, understand?"
Lin Hengzhi's chest heaved as he breathed slowly, clearly indicating that he was angered by Yun Chiyi.
She put down her pen as if she had finished, and stood up abruptly: "I'm so tired after studying for so long, I'm going to read a novel for a while."
Lin Hengzhi turned to the side and said, "You haven't even finished one question, how come you're tired?"
Yun Chiyi skipped excitedly, took two steps to the bookshelf, moved aside the various exercise books, revealing a collection of novels with red covers that had been hidden.
Originally, Lin Hengzhi wanted to say something else, but when he saw the cover of this color, his brain went blank for the next second.
He was unaware that Yun Chiyi had collected all the books he had ever published.
Yun Chiyi stood in front of the bookshelf, strolling leisurely, her fingers tracing the spines of the books with an elegance akin to playing the piano. She carefully selected a novel published three years ago.
This book was Lin Hengzhi's debut work. At that time, his writing style was somewhat hasty, and he was eager to express something. He often couldn't calm down. Of the several book series, this was the one that Lin Hengzhi least wanted to see.
Yun Chiyi sat down, head down, leaning against the bookshelf. The low stool and her shadow were half-hidden by the floor-standing coat rack.
She flipped through the book and asked, "Lin Hengzhi, do you usually read novels? What kind of novels do you like? Urban, cultivation, or post-apocalyptic?"
Lin Hengzhi lowered his eyes, his emotions unreadable. He turned his back and continued writing at his desk.
They kept their mouths shut, not saying a single word.
Yun Chiyi glanced over out of the corner of her eye, smiled silently, and her eyes gleamed with calculation.
"You only do practice problems? Isn't that a bit boring? I'd like to recommend an author I really like; he writes urban suspense..."
Yun Chiyi was interrupted halfway through her sentence by a noisy commotion downstairs.
She frowned in displeasure, but Lin Hengzhi's face immediately darkened. He walked over, past her, and stood by the window at the dividing line of the dim light, his cold eyes looking down at what was happening below.
This reaction indicates that the matter is related to him.
What could possibly be related to someone as cold-hearted as him?
Yun Chiyi immediately put down her book and rushed to the window to see what was happening.
Downstairs, in the lush flowerbed, a drunken man lay there with his belly exposed, his face flushed and drool dripping from his mouth.
The drunkard screamed hoarsely toward the sky, "You heartless bastard, you want to starve me to death!"
He cursed so loudly that spittle flew everywhere, and the neighbors who were taking a nighttime walk slowly gathered around to admire this familiar face.
"Lin Hengzhi, you son of a bitch, give me...give me my money back!"
"I work hard to earn money..."
Since Lin Hengzhi was mentioned by name so specifically, Yun Chiyi, who had never met him, could easily guess that he was Lin Song, Lin Hengzhi's father.
Lin Hengzhi was right beside her. He turned his head to look at her, a cold emotion flashing in his eyes.
He turned around to pack his schoolbag, putting his books, notebooks, and pens back one by one: "That's all for today."
Yun Chiyi leaned half her body against the window, her eyelashes fluttering slightly. She wanted to see him reveal a weakness, but he didn't.
Lin Hengzhi opened the door. The TV in the living room had stopped playing. Meng Yuan looked at him with concern: "Who is that? Why are you drunk and causing trouble? Your dad isn't home. You shouldn't go downstairs alone. Should I go with you?"
Lin Hengzhi said slowly, "It's okay, Auntie. That's my dad downstairs. He's drunk, that's how he is. He's been talking nonsense all day."
He walked a little faster: "I'll refund your tuition fee for today. I'll come earlier tomorrow."
Meng Yuan clicked her tongue in surprise: "We'll talk about that later..."
Lin Hengzhi nodded, gave a half bow, picked up his schoolbag, opened the door, and went downstairs.
The door was closed softly. Meng Yuan saw Yun Chiyi standing in the room with a blank expression. Thinking that she was frightened, Meng Yuan hurriedly ran over and patted her back.
"Oh dear, what's going on here?"
Yun Chiyi put her arm around Meng Yuan's shoulder and leaned her head on her shoulder: "Don't be afraid."
Twenty seconds later, Lin Hengzhi arrived at the flower bed, panting. Lin Song tilted her head and immediately recognized him.
Lin Song suddenly stood up, startling everyone watching. He staggered up to Lin Hengzhi and asked, "Where's the money?"
Lin Hengzhi, carrying his schoolbag, brushed his hand away: "It's always like this, he gets drunk and acts like a madman..."
Before he could finish speaking, Lin Song pushed him to the ground. He stared blankly for a second, then raised his hand, which was scraped by the cement floor, and looked at Lin Song with even greater blankness, calling out helplessly, "Dad..."
Upon seeing that someone was injured, the onlookers couldn't stand still any longer and immediately pulled Lin Song aside, saying, "Don't lay a hand on him, or we'll have to take care of his family affairs too."
Lin Song, drunk, squinted his eyes, his venomous eyes fixed on Lin Hengzhi, as if he wanted to stare a hole through him.
Lin Hengzhi sighed softly and stood up. Ignoring the blood beading on his hands, he took a few steps forward and tentatively helped Lin Song up, saying indistinctly, "Let's go home first, I'll give you this."
He turned to the others and said, "My dad doesn't come back often, so it's normal that you don't recognize him. He's not a bad person. I'm sorry for bothering the neighbors."
Upstairs, Yun Chiyi squinted and tried to read the lips of the onlookers, repeating softly, "How come I didn't know his father liked to drink before? I thought he didn't come back because he was afraid of being cursed to death. I guess this kid hasn't had a good life these past few years."
She leaned against the window, her eyes lowered as she watched Lin Hengzhi help Lin Song into the elevator.
Lin Hengzhi really put on a convincing performance; his filial piety seemed to come from the bottom of his heart.
Yun Chiyi wanted to peek out again, but was suddenly stared at by Lin Hengzhi. She laughed out loud for no reason and slowly hid herself back inside.
What is he doing, trying to do two things at once?
Yun Chiyi turned her head, and Meng Yuan's voice came from the living room.
"Xiaoyi, call Xiaolin and ask if he's alright. I think he's fallen and hurt himself."
Yun Chiyi opened the door and went out, picked up an apple from the coffee table, and sat down on the sofa to start eating it: "I don't want it. Even an upright official can't settle family disputes. What am I? Why would I ask him? Besides, if I call him, he'll just think I'm annoying."
Meng Yuan glared at her: "Look at you, you good-for-nothing."
Yun Chiyi continued to swing her legs: "Lin Hengzhi won't suffer any losses, so we shouldn't worry about him. Instead of worrying about him, you should worry about me."
The apple was sweet, and she ate it with satisfaction. Then she started ordering: "Mom, I want to eat braised fish for dinner."
"Call your dad and ask him to buy some fish." Meng Yuan couldn't argue with him, but when she turned on the TV, she had no interest in watching it and just stared blankly at it.
Yun Chiyi glanced at her briefly: "What about you? What do you want to eat tonight?"
Meng Yuan said, "It's also braised fish. Ask your dad to buy a bigger one."
Yun Chiyi pouted and kissed Meng Yuan's cheek with her sweet lips: "Okay, I'll ask Dad to buy some more of your favorite asparagus."
Meng Yuan smacked her lips, wiped the drool off her face, but couldn't help but smile.
Yun Chiyi threw away the apple core and pondered what she had just said, feeling that her thoughts made a lot of sense.
She always manages to find a way to deal with things like troubling Lin Hengzhi.
Yun Chiyi wiped her hands and picked up the phone, dialing Lin Hengzhi's home number.
