Chapter 81 The Delinquent School Beauty Transfer Student 22 Sports Meet
Lin Hengzhi dreamed of Yun Chiyi again.
Strange, it's the same dream as last time. And it's a nightmare.
Over the past few years, Lin Hengzhi has frequently dreamt of his mother, who was in a car accident. He always dreams of her lying on a cold operating table, looking at him with lifeless eyes. Each dream remains vivid in his memory until he falls asleep the next night.
I haven't seen my mother much lately, but then I dreamt of Yun Chiyi again, and it was the same dream—a car accident.
In her dream, Yun Chiyi lay on the road covered in blood, her beautiful eyes lifeless, simply gazing at the sky with a mocking smile on her lips.
Lin Hengzhi could clearly hear her breathing gradually subsiding, like a wildfire slowly dying out, silently drawing to a close.
Every time Lin Hengzhi woke up, it was before dawn. He stared at the dark, silent night sky, unable to fall asleep no matter what he did, and kept his eyes open until the first light of dawn appeared on the horizon.
He couldn't sleep well, and even his washing up was slowed down. These past two days, he's been arriving at the classroom a few minutes late.
Upon entering, seeing Yun Chiyi bustling about, he felt somewhat dazed, almost unable to distinguish between a dream and reality for a moment.
Even standing on the stands under the blazing sun, Lin Hengzhi's head still ached slightly, and he gazed quietly into the distance.
The 3,000-meter event was about to begin, and the people cheering for their classmates and friends were even more excited than the participants. Yun Chiyi and Wang Jiajia mingled in the crowd, pulling Xin Xiaoya aside to do warm-up exercises.
Yun Chiyi, braving the sun, donned a white sun-protective jacket, making her skin glow. She watched with a smile as Wang Jiajia stretched Xin Xiaoya's legs. The petite Xin Xiaoya looked like a little chick in their hands, being lifted and moved around by Wang Jiajia.
Xin Xiaoya spread her legs, and Wang Jiajia placed her hands on her shoulders. Yun Chiyi heard muffled groans and frowned in pain. She reached out and grabbed Wang Jiajia's arm: "Be gentle, you'll hurt the baby before she even starts running."
To make it easier to exert her strength, Wang Jiajia rolled up her sleeves, and there were already some beads of sweat on her forehead: "Three thousand meters is no small event. What if she gets cramps later?"
Xin Xiaoya blushed and waved her hand to indicate that that was enough.
Wang Jiajia kicked Xin Xiaoya's heel with her toe: "Don't be lazy, you haven't stretched your instep yet."
Before she could even catch her breath, Wang Jiajia bent one leg back and brought it close to her buttocks, grabbing Xin Xiaoya's shoulder as she demonstrated: "See? Like me, press one leg down for 30 seconds."
Yun Chiyi was carrying a bunch of things in her arms: towels, water, and a sun umbrella. Seeing that she couldn't persuade Wang Jiajia, she simply sat down on the spot, crossed her legs, and watched them warm up.
The temperature was just right today, perfect for exercise. She squinted, letting the breeze caress her face. As she slowly opened her eyes, a tall figure came into view. The person squatted down in front of her, grinning and greeting her.
Chen Cang, dressed in a red basketball jersey and wearing a blue baseball cap, looked excited and spoke loudly: "I wrote a lot of cheering messages for you, Yun Chiyi. Do you want me to read them to you? I wrote them myself, and everyone says they are very well written."
Yun Chiyi's smile froze, and the corners of her mouth slowly turned downwards: "Why did you write this for me?"
Chen Cang pulled a stack of papers out of his pocket and muttered, "Didn't you say you were going to run 3,000 meters? After so many laps, I'll cheer you on so you can keep going a little longer."
Not knowing where to begin complaining, Yun Chiyi took a deep breath: "I didn't participate in any events; it was Xiaoya who had to run the 3,000 meters."
Chen Cang was startled and his voice was muffled and loud, like broken copper: "Ah, she's going to run away?"
After Xin Xiaoya finished warming up, she grabbed Wang Jiajia's wrist and hid behind her, only revealing her eyes.
Wang Jiajia, who already disliked Chen Cang, became even angrier upon hearing his condescending tone. She puffed out her chest, took a step forward, and approached Chen Cang: "What's wrong with you? Do you think it's your place to interfere just because you're the principal's son?"
Chen Cang, speaking in sign language, took a long time to organize his thoughts before finally saying, "I didn't hear from the sports committee member that you signed up. Can you handle it? If not, just run two laps and then come down. Last year, someone even fainted from running. Don't push yourself too hard."
I almost forgot, Chen Cang and Xin Xiaoya were in the same class, but they basically didn't communicate with each other.
Yun Chiyi rested her chin on her hand and tilted her head to silently observe the three people. She felt it was still sunny, so she opened her umbrella and comfortably huddled in the shade.
The competition was about to begin when Wang Jiajia snatched Chen Cang's cheering notes and counted them as if they were money—eleven in total.
"Oh my, you are the moon in the sky, and I am the water on the ground... Ugh, how disgusting! Are you writing a love letter? It's so cheesy, it gives me goosebumps."
Chen Cang tried to snatch it back: "Give it back to me! You don't even know how to appreciate literature."
Wang Jiajia picked and chose, crumpled up the unwanted cheering drafts into balls and threw them back to Chen Cang. She didn't have many left in her hand. She held them in her hand and shook them: "I'll take the rest. The extra points will go to your class."
Unable to win the argument or even out-argue, Chen Cang dejectedly squatted down again and approached Yun Chiyi: "I invite you to watch the basketball game this afternoon."
Yun Chiyi yawned: "It's not like there are any tickets, do I need you to invite me?"
Chen Cang clicked his tongue: "I can reserve a good spot for you, with the best view. Not everyone gets this treatment."
The sunlight made Yun Chiyi a little sleepy. Her eyes were blurry with tears as she lazily said, "I will go see it."
The next second before Chen Cang almost shouted out in excitement, she glanced over and said, "I'm not here to see you. I'm just watching the game to pass the time because I'm bored."
Wang Jiajia seized the opportunity to say, "Don't even think about it. Xiaoyi is going to see Lin Hengzhi. It has nothing to do with you. Just don't lose too badly."
Chen Cang was extremely frustrated, his face drooping: "What's so interesting about him? His technique isn't even up to par."
Wang Jiajia said disdainfully, "As long as you're prettier than me, that's fine."
"Yes, she's prettier than you."
After Yun Chiyi finished agreeing, her gaze subconsciously went to find Lin Hengzhi's figure. Unexpectedly, she turned her head and met his eyes. He did not avoid her gaze and looked back at her indifferently.
It felt as if a feather had lightly brushed against her eye socket, making Yun Chi feel unbearably itchy, so she looked away.
Just then, the 3,000-meter race began. Xin Xiaoya, a small girl, was sandwiched in the middle. As soon as the whistle blew, she clenched her fists and started running. Everyone else was sprinting, and she was so nervous that she was sweating profusely. She slowly steadied her pace.
"She looks like a little penguin," Yun Chiyi chuckled.
At this moment, Chen Cang was still tirelessly repeating: "What's so great about his basketball game? I'm the captain of the basketball team, and I've been practicing since the first grade of elementary school."
Chen Cang kept gesturing wildly, blocking Yun Chiyi's view. Yun Chiyi stood up and impatiently pushed him aside: "Fine, fine, you can watch now."
When Xin Xiaoya finished her run and passed by them, Wang Jiajia shouted, "Don't panic, take it one step at a time, watch your step and don't fall."
Yun Chiyi cupped her hands around her mouth: "Xiaoya, you can do it!"
Chen Cang joined in the fun, saying, "Xin Xiaoya, don't breathe too much, and silently count 1-2-1, 1-2-1!"
The three voices grew louder and louder. Xin Xiaoya turned her head away, wanting to run into a hole in the ground to hide.
From the stands, Lin Hengzhi watched Yun Chiyi's smile unfold. The sunlight was so bright, and her smile was incredibly radiant, but to him, it was almost blinding.
The moment Yun Chiyi pushed Chen Cang away, a girl in the class walked up to her mysteriously with a bag of potato chips in her hand: "Class monitor, are Yun Chiyi and Chen Cang dating? You often walk home with Yun Chiyi, so you should know the details, right? Tell me about it?"
Lin Hengzhi gritted his teeth, his eyes calm and indifferent: "No."
The girl paused, still biting into her potato chip. How could he be so certain? Unconvinced, she continued, "How could there be no such thing? Chen Cang is always hanging around her, and Yun Chiyi was smiling so happily. Really, there's nothing going on?"
Lin Hengzhi's eyes grew cold, and his voice softened slightly: "You're just overthinking it."
"Okay, but they look like a perfect match. One is the school heartthrob, and the other is the school beauty. They're such a good match. I got all excited for nothing."
After talking to herself, the girl wiped her hands and said to Lin Hengzhi, "Class monitor, can I borrow yesterday's novel to read? It's so boring staying here."
Lin Hengzhi was a little distracted and asked, "What novel?"
"It's that book, 'The School Prince Falls in Love with Me.' They say it's super good, but I haven't read it yet." The girl finished speaking and excitedly clasped her hands under her chin.
Lin Hengzhi's eyelids twitched, and he said ruthlessly, "The homeroom teacher doesn't allow students to bring random novels to school. I left mine at home, and I'll return it to Yun Chiyi later. She can't bring it in anymore."
The girl let out a wail and sadly carried the potato chips back to her seat.
Lin Hengzhi stepped down one step, zipped up his backpack, and stuffed the novel into the bottom of the backpack as well.
A gust of autumn wind rose and blew past Lin Hengzhi's direction, then after a while, it tugged at Yun Chiyi's hair. Her eyes flickered, and she slowly looked back at where Lin Hengzhi was.
At this moment, Wang Jiajia went to hand in her cheerleading speech. Chen Cang was sitting face to face with her, chattering away, talking about everything from his time as the sports committee member in elementary school to the two bowls of braised beef noodles he ate yesterday.
Yun Chiyi listened with a blank expression, covered her ears with one hand, and waved to Lin Hengzhi with the other.
Seeing that the other party remained unmoved, she grinned, revealing her pearly teeth, and waved her hand even more vigorously.
It seems she wants him to go?
Lin Hengzhi's brow suddenly relaxed, and he finally took a step.
Yun Chiyi breathed a sigh of relief. She had finally gotten this blockhead over. Before he even got to her side, she dropped her umbrella, ran over, grabbed his arm, and said out of the blue, "Look, the competition is so intense. What are you doing hiding there? Are you trying to sneak around studying?"
Her eyes sparkled with laughter as she forcefully pulled Lin Hengzhi to the middle, separating him from the noisy Chen Cang. After doing this, she picked up the umbrella from the ground and turned to look at Xin Xiaoya, who was running with heavy breathing.
She had only run halfway when Xin Xiaoya clutched her stomach and slowed down.
Chen Cang felt that he and Lin Hengzhi were destined to be incompatible; he had no desire to speak when he saw him.
Slightly annoyed, he leaned towards Yun Chiyi and said, "Then don't forget to come watch the game, I need to warm up."
He was quite adept at using deception; Yun Chiyi kept her back to him to avoid making eye contact.
