The monthly exam results came out today. The homeroom teacher originally wanted to talk to him, but then something came up and he went straight home. He had no idea about his class ranking or grade ranking.
Having been a privileged child since childhood, he simply couldn't accept these things, and felt dizzy and disoriented.
Ding Huizhu was also completely unable to accept it. She had been keeping a close eye on Xie Zi'an's grades, and he had never gotten such a bad score before.
"Zian, what's wrong with you?" She suppressed her anger, frowning. "You'll be a senior in high school next semester, and you've fallen so far behind. What are you going to do about the college entrance exam? Are you trying to drive me crazy?"
Xie Zian clenched his fists and remained silent.
Xie Li: "You should ask me that. Why have you been bothering Zi'an for the past two weeks? He's a student, and the pace of study in the advanced class is already very intense. You keep bothering him with your trivial matters. He still has classes during the day, so of course he's sleepy and can't concentrate. Isn't you the culprit for his declining grades?"
The girl's eyes were clear and bright as she stared intently at Ding Huizhu on the other end of the video.
Ding Huizhu was stunned: "My fault? How can you blame me?"
Xie Ziyuan was busy refining medicine every day, yet her grades remained in the top twenty of her grade; Xie Li, on the other hand, got perfect scores every time as easily as eating and drinking.
She realized that her behavior was inappropriate, but when faced with Xie Li's questioning tone, she stubbornly refused to admit her mistake.
"His poor test score is his own fault for not working hard enough and not being ambitious enough! His two older sisters are so busy but their grades have never dropped, so why can't he?"
Xie Zian lowered his head and remained silent, but his fingers were digging deep into his flesh.
He knew, he had always known, that Ding Huizhu disliked him for not being smart enough and had taught him since childhood that he should always give in to Xie Ziyuan and go along with Xie Ziyuan, because only Xie Ziyuan could truly lead the Xie family to glory.
When he was a child, he loved to play and his grades were once very poor. He was often scolded by Ding Huizhu with a cold face.
Later he learned that Ding Huizhu was the daughter of the Ding family, a family of scholars. How could she possibly have poor grades? Wouldn't that be a disgrace to the Ding family?
So he studied and memorized desperately, finally maintaining the false aura of being a top student.
But he knew, he always knew, that he wasn't gifted, nor did he have a high IQ; the only thing he could rely on was hard work.
Ding Huizhu's words plunged him into extreme self-doubt and self-denial.
"You're talking nonsense!" Xie Li couldn't help but exclaim. "Can't you see how hard-working and dedicated Zi'an is? He's the kind of person who needs to be fully focused on everything he does. But look at what you do every day. You can sleep all day after you finish your phone call. Can he do that? He has to go to school and learn how to manage the company from his father. Do you think everyone is as idle as you?"
Ding Huizhu's face turned slightly ashen; she was quite angry.
Before she could say anything more, Xie Li abruptly ended the video call and blocked her.
"You don't need to worry about her anymore. Nighttime is your sleep time. You need to make sure you get enough sleep, otherwise you'll not only become less intelligent, but you won't grow tall either, do you understand?"
Xie Zian was both amused and exasperated. "Sister, I'm already tall enough."
He's already 1.78 meters tall, but probably because he's a boy, he doesn't look very tall standing next to the tall Xie Li.
However, Xie Li's words made him feel a little better and less upset.
Xie Li's affirmation was far more encouraging to him than Ding Huizhu's.
"Lili, Zian." Xie Sidu, dressed in pajamas, stood not far away, looking at his two children with kind and warm eyes: "It's too late, go to sleep."
