Chapter 23 Taking without asking is considered stealing

Xie Yunqiu stood to the side with her arms crossed, not even glancing at Xie Li, and simply ordered the servants to pack up their things.

Xie Li remained silent for a while before she could roughly understand from the servant's address that this person was actually her aunt whom she had never met.

That is, Jiang Baili's biological mother.

Seeing the servants aggressively searching the wardrobe, she quickly reminded them, "It's not in the wardrobe..."

Zhang Ma was furious! What was going on?! The young lady had just returned home today, and Madam Qiu had already brought people here to interrogate her and ransack the place. Did she have no manners as an elder?

Fearing that Xie Li would be taken advantage of, she spread her arms to protect him, saying, "Madam Qiu, can't we talk this out properly?"

"These things were personally delivered by the butler next door, who specifically said they were for the young lady!"

"Isn't it a bit inappropriate for you to barge in like this with your men?"

"Name names?" Xie Yunqiu glanced at Zhang Ma slowly, her eyes filled with disdain. "Zhang Ma, do you even believe what you're saying?"

"The old man next door is a big shot from the capital. He's never even met Xie Li, yet he'd give her things worth millions for no reason?"

"As for Belle, she met the old man once half a year ago and was very much liked by him. Obviously, when people say they are destined to meet, they mean Belle, not some random cat or dog."

Don't they realize that Xie Li's upbringing and manners are far superior to those of Jiang Baili, a wealthy heiress who has been raised from a young age?

If Xie Li were to actually run into that old man, he might not only fail to gain his favor, but could even frighten him!

Zhang Ma's expression suddenly changed; she hadn't expected that Jiang Baili and the old man had actually met once before.

The butler stepped forward at the opportune moment to persuade her, "Madam Qiu, please calm down. It was just a misunderstanding caused by a servant mishearing your name..."

"Misunderstanding?" Xie Yunqiu sneered. "Taking something without asking is considered theft. With such a large amount of money involved, this is no small misunderstanding."

The matter has escalated to this point, causing such a commotion that it has already alerted the Xie family's servants.

Many people rushed up to watch, their gazes towards Xie Li filled with disdain.

When the butler heard from the servants that he couldn't get through to Madam Xie by phone, his usually composed face couldn't help but show a hint of impatience.

Xie Yunqiu was originally a hot-tempered person. Although she had toned it down a lot after marrying into the capital, she was still not someone to be trifled with.

Not to mention that her husband's family, the Jiang family, is a powerful and influential family in the capital, and their status is now vastly different from what it used to be.

Why did they have to mess with that mother and daughter?

"Steal?" Upon hearing this word, Zhang Ma's face immediately turned red. As a servant in a wealthy family, the thing she feared most was that someone would steal.

She worked for the Xie family her whole life and never even lifted a needle; how could she tolerate such slander!

"Madam Qiu, I took it upon myself to give it to the young lady; it has nothing to do with her..."

"Grandma." A hand gently rested on the old lady's shoulder, steady and strong, leading Zhang Ma to sit down on the sofa.

He looked up at Xie Yunqiu and Jiang Baili.

She was actually incredibly sleepy, but she had no choice but to endure inexplicable criticism because of this bunch of nonsensical things.

"You can take the things, I have no objection." She yawned, her eyes glistening with tears. "I was planning to return them tomorrow anyway."

"Give it back? You?" Xie Yunqiu couldn't help but scoff. A country girl like her, so noble and virtuous?

I'm afraid that if they saw these things, they would have been blinded by the light!

"Hmm." Xie Li seemed oblivious to the sarcasm in her words and said calmly, "After all, one cannot accept a reward without merit."
