Chapter 18 Xie Li: She won't come back

The kitchen prepared a very lavish dinner that evening.

Aunt Zhang asked Xie Li about his tastes and preferences, and even cooked several hearty dishes herself.

But the scene was really deserted, with only Xie Li there.

Aunt Zhang looked outside with a smile. "It's not dark yet. Madam usually comes back for dinner around 7 o'clock. If the young lady is hungry, she can have some snacks to tide her over."

Xie Li looked at Zhang Ma, who was eagerly waiting, thought for a moment, and suddenly said, "She won't come back."

Aunt Zhang: "Huh? What did you say, young lady?"

After thinking for a moment, Xie Li decided to explain to Zhang Ma, since she seemed to be looking forward to Madam Xie coming home for dinner that evening.

However, the greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment.

She doesn't like to have expectations of others, so she just quietly did some calculations.

The results showed that... this "trying its best" was really not trying its best at all.

Xie Li thought for a moment and explained, "Madam Xie won't be back tonight, so there's no need to wait for her."

Originally, accompanying Zhang Ma to wait for Madam Xie was not a big deal, but Xie Li was quite exhausted today and was already hungry, so he didn't have much patience to wait.

Seeing Zhang Ma's blank expression, Xie Li pondered for a moment, "Give me Madam Xie's phone number."

Zhang Ma was still pleasantly surprised that she had taken the initiative to ask for Madam Xie's contact information, unaware of the coldness and indifference in her address of "Madam Xie".

After giving her the number, he gently reminded her, "Miss, Madam is your birth mother. You can call her 'Mom'."

"It's alright, be bold. Although Madam may seem aloof, she still has a lot of maternal love for her children."

Xie Li nodded, dialed Mrs. Xie's number, and under the old lady's gentle and encouraging gaze, braced himself and said, "Mom, this is Xie Li."

When Ding Huizhu received the call, she was stunned for a moment before she realized what was happening.

The sound of "Mom" made her feel uncomfortable all over.

So he simply replied with a curt "Is there something you need?"

Xie Li lowered her long, thick eyelashes, and in Zhang Ma's eyes, she looked both well-behaved and adorable.

"It's already seven o'clock," Xie Li said slowly. "Are you planning to come back for dinner tonight?"

The girl's voice was calm, but for some reason, it made Ding Huizhu feel embarrassed and awkward, as if someone had exposed her secret.

After a pause, Ding Huizhu calmly replied, "I'm very busy, I'm afraid I don't have time..."

Xie Li: "Okay, then you go ahead and get busy. I'm hungry, so I won't wait for you."

After a pause, Ding Huizhu thought she was about to hang up. Their breathing mingled, but Xie Li's breathing seemed unusually calm, while hers sounded somewhat disordered.

Aunt Wan was holding her phone and was close enough to hear Xie Li's words.

Seeing that Ding Huizhu's expression was not right, he quickly hung up the phone.

"Madam, I originally planned to call home immediately at eight o'clock to tell you..."

Ding Huizhu waved her hand, indicating that it was nothing. It wasn't Wan Sao's fault; it was just that she had forgotten that Xie Li had only been back at the Xie family home for the first time.

What do they know about etiquette?

As children, isn't it only natural to wait for our mothers to come home for dinner? If it were Ziyuan, she would naturally be considerate in everything and would never ask her such an awkward question.

Seeing her rubbing her temples, looking extremely agitated, Aunt Wan kindly leaned over and massaged her temples.

"Madam, Second Madam Huo will be arriving soon."

They booked a private room to listen to the opera tonight and also invited Madam Xie's close friend, Madam Huo the Second.

Madam Xie nodded, rousing herself. In the past, relying on her past relationship with Madam Huo, the two of them would naturally do whatever made them comfortable and were quite casual.
