Chapter 4 Coercion

Hearing Su Wan's words, Qin Yi felt a surge of irritation. His brows furrowed in the darkness, and he spoke with displeasure.

"Mind your own business!"

Su Wan didn't reply; Grandma Qin's words from earlier that day kept replaying in her mind.

“Xiao Yi is a good boy, but his personality has changed drastically since he had a leg problem. Grandma knows he’s suffering inside…”

Qin Yi used to be considered a prodigy, and Grandma Qin's tone was full of pride when she mentioned him.

In the end, the disappointment was undeniable.

“Wanwan, Grandma can see that you are a good child. Grandma is getting old and wants to see him settle down and start a family. Even if I pass away, it will be a way of giving his parents peace of mind. It is Grandma who is selfish and has made you suffer…”

Grandma Qin looked at her and wiped her eyes guiltily, and Su Wan patted her hand.

"Grandma, let's help him together!"

When Su Wan arrived at the Qin family home, Grandma Qin gave her the gold bracelet she had worn at her wedding as a gift.

She was an elderly woman in her twilight years, having first lost her son and daughter-in-law, and then her only grandson became paralyzed. It was only natural that she did what she did.

For her, marrying Qin Yi and leaving the Su family brought her a lot of peace and quiet.

After this incident, the two remained silent all night. When Su Wan woke up, Qin Yi was sitting on the bed, his tense face flushed an unnatural red.

"I'll help you up!"

Su Wan glanced at the wheelchair she had pushed away while tidying up last night, guessing that Qin Yi wanted to go to the toilet.

She got up to help him, but Qin Yi forcefully pushed her away.

"I don't need you!"

Qin Yi was both annoyed and furious. He was truly impressed by this woman. She looked so petite, how could she be so shameless!

And all these little schemes, deliberately pushing the wheelchair so far, isn't it just to get closer to him? A woman like her just wants to swindle money from his family.

Su Wan ignored his temper and got up to push the wheelchair over.

Without saying a word, she stepped forward to support Qin Yi, putting most of his weight on her. The girl's unique fragrance wafted into his nose, and Qin Yi's heart began to pound uncontrollably.

He pursed his lips and let Su Wan push him to the toilet.

This was the first time Su Wan had been so intimate with a man; Qin Yi's unique scent sprayed onto her neck.

She was completely devoted to Qin Yi and had no romantic thoughts.

Grandma Qin had previously arranged a marriage for Qin Yi.

At that time, Qin Yi's leg injury had just occurred, and he became irritable and sensitive. Qin's grandmother was worried that he would have mental problems, so she asked someone to find him a wife in their hometown.

The woman's family was dirt poor, and she took the opportunity to extort a large sum of money from the Qin family. Grandma Qin almost emptied her savings, but the woman ran away the day after she arrived.

Even as he was leaving, he didn't forget to mock Qin Yi.

"A cripple who can't even walk, you're just trying to scam me into marriage! You want me to follow you around, cleaning up your excrement and feeding you? No way! Bah!"

Grandma Qin was a kind person all her life. Everyone who had met her praised her as a kind old woman. She never cursed. When she heard that young woman speaking so rudely, she trembled with anger and wiped away her tears, saying, "What a sin, what a sin!"

Qin Yi was both angry and furious. He hated himself for not being more careful, for his grandmother was so old and was being verbally abused because of him.

That woman not only extorted money from my family, but also turned around and blamed us. However, she was also reasonable. When my grandmother asked the matchmaker to speak to her, she only told him that he had suffered some injuries and did not tell them that his legs were crippled.

Qin Yi comforted his grandmother, saying that he could manage on his own and that she shouldn't worry about him anymore. But the old woman was still uneasy and went through many intermediaries to arrange for Su Wan to marry into the family.

He looked at Su Wan, a flash of disgust in his eyes. He wanted to see how long she could keep up the act. Could she even endure this kind of life?

Having learned his lesson last time, he wouldn't give Su Wan the chance to extort money from them!

I will never let Grandma be sad again.

Even if Su Wan wants to leave, he will be the one to drive her away. Don't even think about taking another penny from Grandma!

Unaware of Qin Yi's thoughts, Su Wan efficiently prepared a meal. Her quick work earned her high praise from Grandma Qin.

"Oh, Wanwan, the food you made looks delicious, and the kitchen is so clean. You're such a good girl."

Grandma Qin originally thought that with the Su family's conditions, they would have a nanny at home, and Su Wan, being a girl, would never be willing to go into the kitchen.

Su Wan is good at everything.

The more she looked at Su Wan, the more satisfied she became.

What a good kid! If Xiao Yi's leg were alright, these two would be such a perfect match.

Su Wan smiled at Grandma Qin. Back in the countryside, she had been cooking and washing dishes since she could remember. Her adoptive mother was very strict with her; if she was happy, she would give her a bowl of rice, but if she was unhappy, she wouldn't get any.

If Su Wan dared to anger her, she would dump the food on the ground and make her kneel down and lick it.

"Eat."

Young Su Wan didn't understand, so she knelt down and licked and grabbed with her hands, getting rice stains all over her body. Her adoptive mother laughed and clapped her hands.

"What a despicable person, eating something like this!"

Lost in her memories, Su Wan unconsciously gripped her chopsticks tightly.

"Wanwan? Wanwan...?"

"Huh? What's wrong, Grandma?"

She comforted herself, saying that she had survived that miserable life before, and she had also experienced the unreasonable favoritism and bias of the Su family. Now, being treated a little coldly by Qin Yi was really nothing.

Grandma Qin looked at Su Wan with loving eyes.

"What are you thinking about so intently? I'm telling you that you're going back to your parents' home tomorrow, so come with me to buy some things to take back with you tomorrow."

"No need, Grandma."

“It’s settled then. I know you don’t lack anything, but we can’t be impolite and make a fool of ourselves, and we can’t let you lose face.”

Su Wan choked, she wasn't quite used to Grandma Qin's enthusiasm.

He made a few evasive remarks to cover up his discomfort.

"Wanwan, have some ribs. You're not eating enough and you're too thin. You need to eat more to make up for it."

As Su Wan ate, she listened to Grandma Qin nagging her to eat more so that she could be healthy. She treated Grandma Qin like a younger member of her own family.

Su Wan silently lowered her head. Did this kind of family affection truly belong to her?

Grandma Qin was worried that she would lose face when she returned to her parents' home, so she wanted to buy her a gift to take back with her. She thought that when she came to the Qin family, the little things she brought were supposedly part of her dowry.

In the days leading up to the wedding, Han Hongmei was exceptionally busy, bringing back many things. Su Wan assumed that all the things Han Hongmei bought were for her wedding, and she even secretly looked forward to it.

But when it came time to bring her to the Qin family, Han Hongmei only gave her two sets of clothes, a new thermos, a new washbasin, and a flashlight.

She then realized that those things were for Su Qing and Su Shikun, and the radio that Su Shikun claimed to have bought for her was still in Su Qing's possession.

One of the old cotton-padded jackets was even worn by Su Qing, and the two pairs of pants were made on the spot. The rest... well...

Her own biological parents never considered such a problem for her.

Grandma Qin had considered it; she wanted to hold onto this warmth, yet she was also afraid to!

When Qin Yi returned to his parents' home, under the 'pressure' of his grandmother, he asked his boss for a car to take him. Before the car even arrived at the Su family home, Su Wan saw Su Chengde and Han Hongmei standing at the door.
