Chapter 20: First meeting with the Gu family
Gu Mocheng felt a little ironic when he heard Ye Nuan's words. He knew that such a statement was a bit far-fetched.
"Well, it's okay. Grandpa asked me to pick you up and take you home. Do you want to go back with me?" Gu Mocheng threw the question to Ye Nuan again.
"Um... I can go meet them." Ye Nuan felt it was only natural and reasonable to meet her blood-related "family." Ye Nuan's response made Gu Mocheng feel a little uneasy. Ye Nuan's distant words indicated that she had low expectations of the Gu family. Could it be that her father and his hesitation had made Ye Nuan feel that the Gu family didn't welcome her back? But for now, he could only take Ye Nuan back.
"Then, do I need you to ask for leave?" Gu Mocheng asked.
"Oh, by the time I finish eating, the director should be speaking. I'll go ask him for a day off." Ye Nuan finished her meal quickly, ignoring Gu Mocheng's presence. "Can you wait for me at the hospital entrance?"
"Yeah, okay."
Ye Nuan quickly left the restaurant. She felt that since Gu Mocheng had come to the hospital to see her so early, she should not keep him waiting too long. Ye Nuan had not yet asked for leave since arriving here, and the director readily agreed. Ye Nuan walked out of the hospital and saw Gu Mocheng leaning against the car door not far away. She walked towards him. Gu Mocheng opened the back door for her, and Ye Nuan said thank you.
The black Cullinan quickly drove onto the elevated highway and headed towards the Gu family mansion. Ye Nuan felt a little cramped sitting in the luxuriously appointed car.
The two spoke very little. When they were almost there, Gu Mocheng began to introduce the Gu family to her: "There are seven children in the family. You have an older sister, Gu Mucha, and I are twins. Currently, we are the only two married people in the family. My eldest sister-in-law is Lu Qingqing, Lu Ming's younger sister, and we have a four-year-old nephew named Gu Jingnian. My eldest brother-in-law is Jiang Huai, and my eldest sister is now more than seven months pregnant.
The one who looks like you is your second sister, Gu Muwan. You two are triplets. The other one is your second brother, Gu Muci, who is currently on a business trip abroad. The one I saw at the airport is your younger brother, Gu Muchen, and your younger sister, Gu Muyan, who are also twins. And then there are your grandparents, who are 80 years old this year.
"Okay, I understand." Ye Nuan was like a machine, as if the number of people in the Gu family had no real bearing on her. At the same time, she had to digest so much information all at once.
Finally, the car slowly entered a black gate and stopped beside the lawn in the courtyard. Ye Nuan was astonished by the Gu family mansion. It was about the same size as her university playground. Before Ye Nuan could recover from her shock, the car door was opened from the outside. "Welcome home, Miss." Ye Nuan felt a little embarrassed and quickly got out of the car.
"This is the butler Zhao Bo." Gu Mocheng introduced.
Ye Nuan gave the housekeeper a polite smile and said, "Hello!" Then, she followed Gu Mocheng and walked forward. After entering the villa, Ye Nuan was once again shocked by the decoration inside. At the same time, she also noticed that everyone in the living room was looking at her.
"Oh my god, this is so similar, it's almost the same person as Wanwan." The first person to speak was the white-haired old man sitting in the middle of the sofa. If Ye Nuan guessed correctly, it should be Mrs. Gu. Sure enough, Gu Mocheng said, "This is grandma, grandpa and grandma, mom, this is Ye Nuan."
Ye Nuan bowed to the crowd and said, "Hello, I'm Ye Nuan." At least she had the most basic courtesy. Then, she looked up at Mrs. Gu, Xia Nuo, and found that she was looking at her with a trembling look.
"Nuannuan, I've wronged you over the years." Old Madam Gu spoke again, "Come, let me introduce you." Seeing that Ye Nuan was very distant from them and her biological parents remained silent, Old Madam Gu stepped forward and took Ye Nuan by the hand. As they walked, Ye Nuan felt something hugging her legs. She looked down and saw it was a little boy.
"Wow, you look just like Aunt Wanwan!" the child said, turning back to look at Gu Muwan, who had already stood up beside the sofa. Ye Nuan also looked in his direction and was stunned for a moment. Indeed, it was no wonder that Gu Muchen mistook her for someone else. Their faces and features were exactly the same. However, Ye Nuan saw the aura that emanated from Gu Muwan: that confidence, that unbridled spirit, something that Ye Nuan longed for and feared.
"Gu Jingnian, don't be rude. This is your aunt." Gu Mocheng said.
"Oh? Big aunt, Aunt Wanwan, Aunt Xixi, Little aunt, and now there is one more aunt? Then, aunt, what's your name?" Gu Jingnian, whose eyes had been wandering between the two people in his imagination, didn't hear Ye Nuan's self-introduction at all.
"My name is Ye Nuan."
"Auntie's name is very nice. From now on, I will call you Auntie Nuannuan, okay?" Gu Jingnian was a child who spoke without restraint, but Gu Mocheng knew that "Ye Nuan", "Ye" was the surname of all the nameless children in the orphanage, and "Nuan" was because the director was freezing when he found her, and he hoped she would warm up quickly. He looked at Ye Nuan, but Ye Nuan didn't react at all. He didn't know that when Ye Nuan was working several jobs a day and was the most helpless and weakest, only the "Nuan" in "Ye Nuan" made her feel a little warm.
Mrs. Gu told her great-grandson to go find his parents and continued to pull Ye Nuan towards Gu's mother. "Nuannuan, this is your mother, your biological mother." Something flashed through Ye Nuan's mind, but it was only for a moment, and she couldn't grasp it even if she wanted to. Instead, Gu's mother took a step forward, her eyes slightly red, and gently hugged Ye Nuan. Ye Nuan froze. This seemed to be the first time she felt the meaning of the word "hug."
"Nuannuan, my child, I am sorry for you. I didn't take good care of you." Mother Gu's voice was choked.
Ye Nuan didn't know what to do. She raised her arm slightly, then quickly lowered it, saying dryly, "I'm fine."
Gu Muxia, who was standing aside, probably noticed Ye Nuan's confusion and said, "Mom, let Nuannuan get familiar with us too." Mother Gu let go of Ye Nuan and pointed to the group of people standing in front of the sofa and introduced them one by one.
