Shi Miao had just stepped out of Shen Yan's office when her cell phone rang.
She took out her phone, walked a short distance ahead, turned around, leaned against the wall, and pressed the answer button. "Hello."
"Where are you?" Ji Yanchen's deep, magnetic voice came from the other end of the phone.
Shi Miao turned her head and glanced at the office not far away. "Just came out of Professor Shen's office. What's wrong?"
"I'm at the gate of your school."
Shi Miao raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised, and lazily asked, "Why did you suddenly come?"
"Don't you have no classes this afternoon?"
Shi Miao then remembered that she had just sent him the class schedule yesterday. "Okay, wait for me."
Ji Yanchen chuckled softly, "Okay."
Ten minutes later, Shi Miao had just reached the school gate when she looked up and saw the unassuming SUV parked by the roadside.
The next second, she saw the man get out of the driver's seat and walk towards her.
"Where's your bag?" Ji Yanchen naturally took her hand.
Shi Miao raised her hand to lower the brim of her hat, her tone quite casual: "It's in the dorm. I'm too lazy to go get it. I'll be back tonight anyway."
Ji Yanchen raised a faint smile at the corners of his ink-wash-like eyebrows, looked at the girl, and slowly said, "I remember you don't have class before ten o'clock tomorrow."
Upon hearing this, Shi Miao raised her eyes. Her clear, bright eyes were pure and strikingly beautiful. "What, you're not letting me come back tonight?"
"Mmm." The man squeezed her fingertips, a low chuckle escaping his throat, the last syllable seemingly hooked.
As they talked, they walked to the car, and Ji Yanchen opened the passenger door for her.
As soon as Shi Miao got into the car, she discovered that there was someone else sitting in the back seat.
Xie Sizhou blinked his captivating peach blossom eyes and said with a grin, "Sister-in-law, it's been a long time."
Shi Miao fastened her seatbelt, turned her head to look at him, and raised her delicate eyebrows slightly, "What are you doing here?"
Xie Sizhou, with an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth, sighed softly, "How boring. It's more interesting to stay with you guys."
Shi Miao slowly withdrew her gaze and casually asked, "Where's Qin Xiao?"
Xie Sizhou waved his hand, "Don't even mention it. I don't know what he's busy with all day. He won't come out even when I call him."
Ji Yanchen drove, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. "You don't have classes this afternoon, so why are you in the office?"
Shi Miao took out her phone from her pocket, tapped the screen with her jade-like fingers, and said without looking up, "Go sign up for a competition."
Ji Yanchen thought for a moment, "The World Software Competition?"
Shi Miao raised her languid, half-closed eyes to look at him, somewhat surprised, "Yes."
Hearing this, Xie Sizhou came over and asked curiously, "Sister Shi, why did you suddenly want to participate in the competition? I don't remember you being the kind of person who likes to join in on fun."
Shi Miao lowered the car window, casually resting her slender arm on it. She turned her head to look at the scenery rushing past outside the window, her dark eyes narrowing slightly. "I happen to know a little about computers, so I wanted to give it a try."
Actually, the last physics competition really touched her, and she suddenly wanted to do something for the country, even if it was something very small.
Ji Yanchen glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, but didn't say anything.
If the number one hacker on the hacker leaderboard goes to participate, it's likely that the pros will slaughter the newbies.
Xie Sizhou nodded. "Where is the competition being held? We're not going abroad, are we?"
Ji Yanchen is quite familiar with these things. "In previous years, it was always in the United States, but this year is a bit special, so it was chosen to be held in China."
He paused for a moment, then added: "Right in the capital."
...
In the office.
Several computer science professors have checked all the submitted software in the order they were registered.
Shen Yan was particularly interested in the USB drive that Shi Miao handed over, and the first thing he checked was her software.
Even after the inspection was finished, he was still staring at the desktop computer in front of him, unable to come back to his senses for a long time.
When Li Wenlin pushed the door open, he saw Shen Yan sitting in a chair, looking a little dazed. Could it be that he hadn't chosen any of them?
He walked to his desk and tapped on the surface. "So, are the results in yet?"
Li Wenlin had naturally heard about Shi Miao's participation in the competition, and since he had nothing else to do, he came here.
Shen Yan jolted awake, touched his face, and couldn't hide his excitement and exhilaration. He jumped up from his chair, exclaiming, "Principal Li, Shi Miao is truly a gem in our Computer Science Department! Just you wait and see, she'll definitely be the one representing China in this competition!"
There were about twenty or thirty students who applied to the Computer Science Department this time, including many of the students they had high hopes for.
Well, to put it simply, it was just what I expected from a player performing at their normal level.
Jiang Ye's software was decent, but compared to Shi Miao's, it was utterly insignificant and was instantly outclassed.
Upon hearing this, a hint of shock flashed in Li Wenlin's eyes. At first, he thought that Miao was just there to join in the fun, after all, she was only a freshman and had just started school, so her knowledge of computers should only be superficial. "Professor Chen, are you serious?"
"Just as I said, none of the people Peking University submitted this year are as good as Shi Miao!" Shen Yan grinned so wide his mouth almost reached his ears, and picked up his phone to send the good news to Shi Miao.
He couldn't help but feel glad that Shi Miao had chosen their computer science department. If she had been lured away by the physics department, he would have no one to cry to now.
...
At 9 p.m., Tsinghua University announced the only spot that had been submitted for the competition on its official website.
Shi Miao's name was prominently displayed on it.
The main reason is that this competition is being held in China, so there are quite a lot of people paying attention to it. If we can't even make it to the finals, it would be incredibly embarrassing.
When the results came out, the school network exploded with excitement.
After all, everyone knew that Shi Miao was just a freshman in the computer science department, and they had never heard of her having any particularly outstanding performance in computers, so they were quite shocked by the result.
Many people speculated that the Computer Science Department might not have enough people to compete this year, so they sent Shi Miao just to make a show of it.
It seems that this year's representative from China will still be from Peking University.
Meanwhile, the person in question was calmly enjoying hot pot in a restaurant.
Shi Miao had already received the result from Shen Yan, so it was nothing out of the ordinary.
"Holy crap, this hot pot is way too spicy!" Xie Sizhou gulped down a glass of iced plum juice, his lips turning bright red from the spiciness.
Shi Miao cooked a slice of beef for herself, then looked up at Xie Sizhou across from her, "Isn't there tomato broth?"
"I saw you eating it with such gusto, so I wanted to try it too. Damn, this is insanely spicy!" Xie Sizhou poured himself another glass of plum juice.
Shi Miao's lips twitched almost imperceptibly, speechless. "You're just bad at the game and love to play."
She turned her head to look at the man beside her, "Is it spicy?"
Ji Yanchen placed the blanched tripe into her bowl, his tone soothing and deep: "It's alright, to an acceptable level."
Xie Sizhou was quite shocked: "Brother Chen, I remember you used to not eat any spicy food at all."
Ji Yanchen picked up another slice of raw beef and put it into the pot. His beautiful eyes were half-closed, and the deep corners of his eyes revealed a hint of laziness. "Hmm, it's ready now."
Xie Sizhou stroked his chin and couldn't help but sigh, "Is this the magic of love?"
Ji Yanchen glanced at him and said, "Can't even a meal shut you up?"
Xie Sizhou coughed and looked at Shi Miao, "Sister-in-law, when will the selection results for this competition be released?"
Shi Miao casually picked up the lemonade on the table and took a sip. "Three days later."
"Remember to let me know when the results come out."
Shi Miao, biting on the straw, her eyes clear and bright, lazily said, "Okay."
