Under the blazing sun, cicadas chirped incessantly.
A black car slowly drove into a well-known wealthy villa district in H city.
"Miss, we've arrived. Master, Madam, and Second Miss are already waiting for you at home." The Gu family driver turned to look at the girl in the back seat who looked like a fairy.
"Okay, I understand." Shi Miao, who was sitting in the back seat, opened her eyes upon hearing this, got out of the car expressionlessly, and the fine hairs on her porcelain-white skin could be seen under the sunlight.
Her fox-like eyes, due to her aloof demeanor, didn't appear alluring; instead, they added a touch of convincing composure. Her long, seaweed-like hair cascaded to her waist, framing soft, glossy red lips, a delicate nose, and a refined chin... it was a beautiful face that would leave a lasting impression.
The Gu family is one of the most prestigious wealthy families in H City. Their villa's hall is magnificent, with a million-dollar crystal chandelier hanging in the center of the living room, showcasing their luxury.
Shi Miao, carrying her schoolbag, walked in slowly from the living room doorway.
The family of three was sitting on a European-style sofa, chatting and laughing happily, seemingly oblivious to her, their so-called biological daughter.
"Oh, sister, you're back!" Gu Yanxin looked up at the girl standing at the door, paused for a moment, and then said sweetly, "I was just telling Mom why you hadn't arrived yet."
She stared at Shi Miao's face, a hint of jealousy flashing in her eyes.
Wasn't she supposed to be a country girl who grew up in the countryside? How come she's so beautiful? But what's the use of being beautiful? She's still a clueless bum who doesn't know anything. The real heiress is still her.
Gu Yunbai coughed lightly and turned to look at Shi Miao, "Miao Miao, you're back."
"Miaomiao, come to Mommy." Yun Rujin stood up awkwardly and walked forward to take Shi Miao's hand.
Shi Miao subtly avoided her hand, nodded to Gu Yunbai, and said in a rather indifferent tone, "I don't remember having a younger sister."
The atmosphere immediately became heavy. Seeing this, Gu Yanxin bit her lip, lowered her eyelids, and said in a slightly tearful voice, "I'm sorry, sister. Because I haven't found my biological parents yet, Mom and Dad asked me to continue living here. If you're unhappy, I can move out."
Hearing this, Yun Rujin felt heartbroken and held Gu Yanxin's hand to comfort her, saying, "What are you saying, child? You will always be my good daughter. I would be willing to raise you for the rest of my life!"
"Yes, Xinxin, don't say things like that again." Gu Yunbai frowned and patted her shoulder earnestly.
Gu Yanxin raised her hand to wipe away the tears from the corners of her eyes and whispered, "Thank you, Mom and Dad!"
Shi Miao lowered her eyes, stood lazily with her legs bent, and tapped her phone screen with her fair fingers, showing no interest whatsoever in the family drama unfolding before her.
"Okay, where is my room?" She slowly put away her phone and looked up at the family of three across from her.
He slightly raised his chin, showing little emotion, yet giving off an invisible sense of pressure.
Yun Rujin's eyes flickered slightly, and she said in an unnatural tone, "Miaomiao, Xinxin has been living in the master bedroom for many years and she's gotten used to it. It would be troublesome to move her around, so Mom has cleaned up the second bedroom for you."
Shi Miao reached out and smoothed her hair, her gaze casual and flippant, and said in a fairly calm tone, "Tsk, whatever, and don't call me Miao Miao."
He then casually slung his backpack over his shoulder, turned and walked towards the stairwell, leaving the three of them looking at each other in bewilderment.
"Yunbai, do you really think Shi Miao is our biological child? How can she be so rude? She's been in the house for so long and hasn't called us 'Dad' or 'Mom' once!" Yun Rujin said with a livid face.
Gu Yanxin concealed the smugness in her eyes, stepped forward and hugged Yun Rujin's arm, her voice soft: "Mom, don't be angry. My sister is probably too tired on the way back, so she's not in the mood."
Gu Yunbai pinched the bridge of his nose and said in a deep voice, "Bringing her back was also the old man's idea. Just raise Xinxin well, and in public, Xinxin will still be the eldest daughter of the Gu family."
Gu Yunbai is ultimately a businessman. To him, whoever has the greatest value to him is the eldest daughter of the Gu family.
Yun Rujin smiled and patted Gu Yanxin's head with satisfaction. "Yes, my Xinxin is so sensible. All the years of teaching I've given you have been worth it."
Gu Yanxin turned her head to look in the direction Shi Miao had left, her eyes darkening and a hint of disdain rising at the corner of her mouth.
Shi Miao, you think you can compete with me? No matter your status as the eldest daughter of the Gu family or your parents, in the end, all of these can only belong to me.
...
After returning to her room, Shi Miao took out a black and bulky laptop from her backpack. She didn't know what brand it was.
Her fair, jade-like fingers flew across the keyboard, displaying dazzling code on the screen.
Just then, my phone rang: "Let's all learn to meow together, meow meow meow..."
Shi Miao frowned, his dark eyes cold and irritable. He picked up his phone, pressed the answer button, turned on speakerphone, and casually tossed it on the table. "You'd better have something to say."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone. "Oh my god, boss, don't be so heartless! Waaah, I miss you."
Shi Miao stared at the computer screen, her hands still moving, and said in a slightly hoarse voice, "If you say another word, you'll be going to F Continent to mine with Zhong Li."
"Ahem, boss, someone has offered you 100 million to help you find someone."
Upon hearing this, Shi Miao paused in her actions. "Who are you looking for?"
"They said they were helping to find that miracle doctor who sells rare medicines on the black market in the capital."
Shi Miao raised an eyebrow, her fair face serious. She tapped the table with her index finger and said lazily, "Tell him I'm busy and won't answer."
