Jiang Ning finished reading it in less than a minute. Naturally, she didn't believe what was said. The first person that came to her mind was Xia Zhixu. This Weibo post must be related to her.
After all, the only people involved in that fight were the four girls in their dorm.
Jiang Ning casually scrolled through the comments section below, her expression gradually turning grim. The majority of the comments were demanding that Tsinghua University expel Shi Miao.
She climbed down the ladder from the bed, found Shi Miao's phone number, and dialed it.
The phone had only rung twice when a familiar cell phone ringtone came from outside the door. The next second, Shi Miao pushed the door open and walked in. "What's wrong?"
Upon seeing this, Jiang Ning hung up the phone, her brows furrowed with undisguised anxiety. "Sister Miao, have you checked Weibo?"
Shi Miao took off her baseball cap, walked to her seat, and sat down casually with her legs crossed. "What happened?"
Jiang Ning lowered her head, tapped her finger on the phone screen, and then handed the phone to her. "Someone is spreading rumors about you online. I suspect it's related to Xia Zhixu."
Shi Miao raised an eyebrow, reached out and took the phone, and began to look through it.
After reading the above, she finally understood what had happened. No wonder she had been given strange looks by everyone when she returned to school.
"Sister Miao, I definitely believe you!" Jiang Ning dragged a chair over and sat down next to her. After thinking for a moment, she suggested, "Why don't we just call the police? Spreading rumors and defamation is illegal!"
Shi Miao handed the phone back to Jiang Ning, her dark eyes narrowing slightly. She was quite agitated; all she wanted was to go to school. "It's okay, don't worry."
When Su Wenxue heard about calling the police, a hint of panic flashed in her eyes. She bit her lip, looked up at the two people diagonally opposite her, and said softly, "Shi Miao, I also believe that you are not that kind of person! But the police probably can't handle this kind of thing, right? Maybe we should think of another way."
Upon hearing this, Shi Miao slightly raised his eyes, his gaze, which held a half-smile, falling on her. He casually said, "You seem very afraid that I'll call the police?"
Su Wenxue's eyes flickered slightly, her expression stiffened a little, and her fingers gripping the phone tightened slightly. "How could you think like that? I just think that when it comes to spreading rumors, the police can at most just make someone delete that Weibo post. They can't really solve the root problem."
She paused for a moment and then said, "Besides, the police might not even take our case if we are powerless and helpless students."
Jiang Ning thought there was some truth to what she said, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong with it. She frowned and said in a deep voice, "Then what should we do?"
Just as he finished speaking, his phone rang.
Shi Miao slowly withdrew her gaze, glanced at the caller ID, and got up to walk towards the balcony.
Seeing this, Su Wenxue breathed a sigh of relief and leaned weakly against the table, clearly feeling that her back was soaked with sweat.
...
Shi Miao leaned against the balcony railing and said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Hello."
"Do you know what's going on on Weibo?" William's voice came from the other end of the phone.
Shi Miao looked up at the dormitory and gave a faint "hmm".
"Don't worry, I've already issued a statement."
Shi Miao raised her delicate eyebrows slightly, "So fast."
"How do you plan to resolve the issue of him assaulting his classmate?"
Shi Miao raised her hand to tidy her hair, showing no sign of anxiety, as if she weren't the one in question. Her tone was casual and rather roguish: "I haven't decided yet, after all, I really did hit him."
The next second, a gasp suddenly came from the dormitory, followed by the sound of a chair falling to the ground with a thud. She frowned and said, "I'll hang up now and talk to you later."
"OK."
After hanging up the phone, Shi Miao went into the dormitory, looked up at Jiang Ning who was staring at her phone in shock, and asked, "What's wrong?"
Jiang Ning snapped out of her daze, looked up at her, opened her mouth, then glanced down at her phone. After a long while, she finally found her voice, "Sister Miao, you're Master William's apprentice! So you had lunch with Master William at noon!"
"Hmm." Shi Miao stepped forward and helped the chair that had fallen to the ground to its feet.
Upon hearing this, Su Wenxue's pupils constricted sharply; she could hardly believe what she was hearing. She quickly switched interfaces and opened Weibo. The top trending topic was #William, Shi Miao#
Her fingertips trembled slightly as she clicked on the link. The first thing she saw was a statement posted by William using his own account, a very simple sentence: Shi Miao, my apprentice. @NightRain
The comments section was already in an uproar.
[Holy crap, I knew that guy in the video looked a bit like Master William! It's him! Luckily, I believe Shi Miao isn't that kind of person. Now the rumors are proven false.]
[Ahhhhh, as expected of Night God! He's actually Master William's apprentice! And William mentioned Shi Miao, but tagged Night God's account, which means they're the same person! Those trolls who doubt Night God's identity should shut up and apologize!]
[Emmm…what about the assault on her classmate? Shi Miao hasn't come out to explain yet, does that mean she really did assault someone?]
[I agree with the comment above; let's focus our attention on school violence.]
[Seriously, use your brains! You believe everything that Weibo post says? There's no evidence the poster provided to support the claim that Shi Miao assaulted someone. And they're just making up rumors based on a video of her getting into someone else's car. They can turn white into black with just their mouths.]
...
at the same time.
Xia Zhixu had been summoned back to the Xia family home before William issued his statement. She had no idea what had happened, only that Old Master Xia's tone on the phone was very serious.
Xia's father and mother were also in the living room, their faces grim, the atmosphere so oppressive it was almost suffocating.
Clutching her bag, she walked nervously to Grandpa Xia and said, "Grandpa."
The next second, before she could react, Old Master Xia slapped her across the face.
Xia Zhixu stumbled and fell to the ground, covering her face, looking at Grandpa Xia with a bewildered expression, "Grandpa!"
Grandpa Xia was furious, his eyes blazing with anger. He pointed at her nose and said, "Didn't I tell you not to mess with Shi Miao? Look at the mess you've made!"
Xia Zhixu bit her lip, her eyes flickering slightly. How could Grandpa know about that? Her face burned with embarrassment, and she forced herself to say, "Grandpa, I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't do anything!"
Old Master Xia's chest heaved violently with anger. "Ji Yanchen has already thrown the evidence in my face, and you say you don't know? You've really ruined the Xia family! Now Ji Yanchen has declared that anyone who gets close to the Xia family is going against the Ji family! Not only have I been expelled from the Medical Research Institute, but you've also been expelled from Tsinghua University!"
Xia Zhixu felt as if she had been struck on the head, her eyes filled with disbelief. She shook her head and muttered to herself, "Impossible! How could Ji Yanchen help Shi Miao? Impossible!"
She turned to look at Xia's father and mother, as if grasping at a lifeline, "Dad, Grandpa was joking, right?"
A hint of reluctance flashed in Xia's father's eyes, but he also knew the seriousness of the matter. He turned his head away and remained silent.
Xia Zhixu's face turned deathly pale. He crawled over and grabbed his mother's arm, his voice hoarse as he said, "Mom, say something!"
Xia's mother's eyes were red and choked as she said, "Zhixu is real, our Xia family is really finished..."
Xia Zhixu's arm slowly slid down, and she fell back to the ground, her heart filled with despair.
