Shi Miao glanced at him lazily, "Can you come up with a more reasonable excuse?"
A hint of helplessness flashed in Cheng Si's eyes as he looked at her with a serious expression. "I'm telling the truth."
Shi Miao raised an eyebrow, clearly still not believing what he said, but said perfunctorily, "Okay."
Although she didn't know why Cheng Si was unwilling to tell the truth and insisted on coming up with some ridiculous reason like rebirth, she figured he must have some unspeakable secret.
However, she didn't intend to keep pressing him for answers. After all, in her opinion, as long as he was alright, that was fine; if he didn't want to talk about it, that was fine too.
Seeing this, Cheng Si didn't explain anything further, knowing that the matter was over. Just as he was about to change the subject, he heard footsteps approaching from behind.
He turned his head and looked behind him, and saw Gu Wanqing and Shi Jing walking over one after the other.
Shi Miao and Cheng Si stood up, walked around the sofa, and went to greet them together.
Gu Wanqing didn't seem to have fully recovered from the shocking news; her eyes were still red.
Her gaze swept across Cheng Si's face, and she subconsciously grabbed Shi Miao's arm, asking again to confirm, "Miao Miao, is what your father said true?"
Shi Miao nodded, patted her hand, and whispered, "It's true."
After receiving a positive answer, Gu Wanqing slowly released Shi Miao's arm and walked towards Cheng Si, who was standing to the side. Her fingers trembled slightly as she touched his face, her voice choked with emotion, "Xiao Si..."
Cheng Si's eyes flickered slightly. He raised his hand and squeezed her hand. Looking at her tearful eyes, he felt a lump in his throat for some reason. He pursed his lips and whispered, "Mom."
Tears welled up in her eyes instantly. Gu Wanqing withdrew her hand, covered her mouth, and couldn't control her emotions as she cried out. However, her face showed both excitement and joy.
Shi Jing stepped forward and put his arm around her shoulder, patting her gently a few times to comfort her. Then, looking at Shi Miao and Cheng Si, he sighed softly, "Now our family is completely reunited."
Shi Miao curled her lips and responded softly, "Mm."
...
Here, the family was sitting together chatting, and the conversation almost entirely revolved around Cheng Si.
When asked why he was still alive despite being dead, Cheng Si made up a random excuse, saying that he didn't know the exact situation and only knew that he grew up in an orphanage.
Although Shi Miao didn't speak, she rested her chin on her hand and listened attentively, seemingly quite interested in Cheng Si's experiences from childhood to adulthood.
However, when he gave a completely different reason than before, she didn't expose him, and even felt that this was much more reliable than that so-called rebirth.
Looking back now, it seems that the ridiculous reason for her rebirth was just Cheng Si teasing her.
Just then, her phone vibrated in her pocket.
Shi Miao composed herself, took out her phone from her pocket, and glanced at WeChat. It was a message from Ji Yanchen.
Have the test results come out yet?
Shi Miao sent the screenshot directly, then turned off her phone and put it back in her pocket, thinking she would explain what had happened in detail when she got back to her room.
As Gu Wanqing was chatting, she suddenly remembered something, looked at Shi Miao sitting diagonally opposite her, and asked with a smile, "By the way, Miao Miao, is Yan Chen coming over today?"
Shi Miao nodded obediently, "Yes."
Gu Wanqing couldn't hide her joy as she said gently, "Then send him a message now to ask when he's coming over. It would be best if he could come and have lunch together. I'd like to cook lunch myself today."
Upon hearing this, Shi Miao hummed in agreement, then took out her phone from her pocket, her eyes lowered, and typed slowly and deliberately, sending a message to Ji Yanchen.
What time are you coming? My mom wants you to come for dinner.
Ji Yanchen replied quite quickly: "On the way."
Shi Miao glanced at his reply, lifted her eyelids, and said to Gu Wanqing, "They're already on their way."
Gu Wanqing smiled and said, "Okay."
...
When Ji Yanchen arrived, only Shi Miao and Cheng Si remained in the hall.
Shi Miao yawned, seemingly a little sleep-deprived, and looked up at the man walking towards her, saying in a slightly hoarse voice, "You're here."
Ji Yanchen hummed in agreement, his gaze lingering on Cheng Si for a second before quickly looking away. He then walked over and sat down next to Shi Miao.
Cheng Si casually raised his hand from the sofa armrest, looked at Ji Yanchen, curled his lips, and said nonchalantly, "Call me 'brother'."
Ji Yanchen raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly, unsure of what was going on. Cheng Si's current behavior was nothing like that of an "illegitimate child."
Shi Miao's eyelids twitched, and she realized that she hadn't told him about Cheng Si's true identity yet. "Um, actually, he's my brother."
She paused for a moment, then added, "My own brother, he was born to my mother."
"Hmm?" Ji Yanchen was slightly taken aback.
Quickly realizing what she meant, a hint of surprise flashed in his deep eyes. He turned to look at Shi Miao beside him and said with some doubt, "Isn't he already..."
Shi Miao naturally knew what he wanted to say, but didn't explain further. After all, she didn't know how Cheng Si had survived either, and simply said, "He didn't die."
Although Ji Yanchen found it unbelievable, he quickly accepted the fact. "I see."
Cheng Si's handsome face was full of mischievousness. "So hurry up and call me 'brother' so I can hear it. Good brother-in-law."
Shi Miao coughed and gave Cheng Si a look, signaling him to stop messing around.
Although as her boyfriend, he should call Cheng Si "brother" according to seniority, the thought of Ji Yanchen having to call Cheng Si, who was several years younger than him, gave her goosebumps.
Cheng Si seemed not to hear Shi Miao's cough or notice the look she gave him, and continued to look at Ji Yanchen with great interest, waiting for him to call him "brother".
Ji Yanchen didn't care about the title. He obviously didn't expect Cheng Si to be so easy to get past. He thought Cheng Si would disagree with his relationship with Shi Miao.
He looked up at Cheng Si and called out calmly, "Brother."
Cheng Si raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised. He had thought Ji Yanchen would never call him that. His expression was quite pleased, and he said with satisfaction, "Not bad, I'll accept you as my brother-in-law from now on. I'll protect you from now on!"
Ji Yanchen nodded slightly and said seriously, "Okay."
Shi Miao's lips twitched almost imperceptibly, and she was momentarily speechless, though she was still somewhat surprised that Ji Yanchen would cooperate with Cheng Si like this.
Cheng Si stood up, stretched, looked at Shi Miao and Ji Yanchen, and said lazily, "I'm going to take a nap, so I won't disturb your sweet time."
After saying that, he lifted his foot and left.
Shi Miao glanced at Cheng Si's departing figure, then looked away and turned to Ji Yanchen beside her, asking, "Why are you cooperating with him like this?"
Ji Yanchen chuckled softly and hooked his arm around hers. "Isn't that your brother?"
Shi Miao thought about it and agreed. Seeing that there was still some time before lunch, she said, "Want to stay in my room for a while?"
Ji Yanchen: "Okay."
