"brute!"
Yu Chunsheng carried the child and walked ahead. Xu Tangmian followed behind him, and when she saw the car following closely behind them, her brows furrowed in displeasure.
Although Xu Zhilian didn't get out of the car, she knew he was sitting inside after Yu Chunsheng finished speaking to her.
Since he was unwilling to come down, she would pretend not to know, even though her mind was filled with the scene of him tacitly allowing his men to beat her that night in Beiping.
As soon as Li Youlan saw Xiao Qiushi, she wanted to hug him. The child's rosy cheeks were so adorable that she couldn't bear to let go of him.
Xu Tangmian led them to a nearby restaurant. The road wasn't far, and after parking the car in a different spot, Yu Chunsheng followed.
This time, Xu Zhilian didn't stay in the car any longer; he took his driver with him into the restaurant.
The two groups of people ate their food separately, like strangers. Yu Chunsheng remained calm, as if the two people beside him didn't exist. Although Li Youlan and his wife would occasionally glance over there, since the person in question didn't seem to care, they didn't say anything and simply chatted with Yu Chunsheng.
But Xu Tangmian couldn't ignore that person.
What is he up to now? Why did he suddenly come here when he was doing well in Beiping? He's clearly here for Yu Chunsheng.
Although Yu Chunsheng didn't tell her directly about Liu Peng's matter, she guessed that someone was behind it, and it was probably her good grandfather. Who else could make Yu Chunsheng keep quiet in front of her?
She used to respect and love him, thinking he was the greatest elder in the world, but that night in Beiping abruptly woke her from her dream.
She finally started a new life, so what is he going to do now?
Xu Tangmian couldn't sit still. After handing the child to Yu Chunsheng, she got up and sat down opposite Xu Zhilian.
The other person looked up with some confusion, seemingly not recognizing her.
Looking at that familiar yet unfamiliar face, Xu Tangmian was overwhelmed with emotions. The face in the portrait, the face that fed her candy when she was a child, the face that allowed her subordinate to beat her on that rainy night—it was clearly the same face.
But why is it that the younger his face looks, the less she recognizes him?
She didn't want to acknowledge him, even if she did, he wouldn't believe her. Thinking that he might hurt Yu Chunsheng again and destroy their family's happiness, Xu Tangmian swallowed hard and asked coldly, "What exactly are you here for?"
The other person calmly took out a handkerchief from their pocket, wiped their mouth, gave her a slightly scrutinizing look, and asked in a measured tone, "Are you Yu Chunsheng's lover?"
"Yes, that's me." Xu Tangmian admitted directly, still repeating the same question: "What exactly are you here for?"
Xu Zhilian didn't reply to her, but instead asked another question with a forced smile: "Let me ask you first, okay? Why did you break into my house last time and steal my things?"
This time, the other table couldn't hold back any longer. Li Youlan simply burst out cursing, "What nonsense are you spouting? Who do you think you are? Do you think everyone is as greedy for that little bit of money as you?"
"Is that so?" Xu Zhilian leaned back, casually took something out of his pocket, and suddenly placed it in front of Xu Tangmian.
The pocket watch she had pawned was dangling in front of her.
He bought the pocket watch back? Wouldn't he suspect something? Xu Tangmian felt guilty and slumped to the ground, her face pale.
Xu Zhilian took in her entire performance and smiled contemptuously.
"You broke into my house in broad daylight to steal things, frightened my wife, and even corrupted my son. It's too lenient for me to just have you beaten up."
With a "smack," he slammed his hands on the table, leaned forward, and said in a sinister tone, "If I wanted, I could send your whole family in."
With a "whoosh," Xu Tangmian didn't cry, but Xu Qiushi, who was in Yu Chunsheng's arms, was so frightened that she cried.
Xu Tangmian was stunned by him and didn't know what to do for a moment. Now that she heard her daughter crying, she came back to her senses and quickly went over to take her daughter from Yu Chunsheng's arms and comfort her.
Yu Chunsheng then stepped forward, snatched the pocket watch, and said sneer, "Why would you buy something that's already been sold?"
"Brother Lin." Xu Zhilian's eyes flickered, seemingly unwilling to call him that. "You really are a reincarnation, but I'm not afraid of you."
"Really?" Yu Chunsheng's gaze shifted from his face to his chest. The things hanging around Xu Zhilian's neck had jingled and clattered out of his clothes when he had startled Xu Tangmian earlier.
Yu Chunsheng raised his hand and grabbed the chains, casually reciting them as if calling roll: "Cross, Buddha, Bodhisattva, dog teeth, and..."
He glanced at the red badge on Xu Zhilian's chest and said with interest, "Who are you guarding against? With such a large commotion, aren't you afraid that your ancestors will start fighting first?"
He suddenly twisted his wrist, wrapping the chain around his palm, and the necklace, which had been hanging below his collarbone, suddenly became shorter.
Xu Zhilian, pulled by the necklace, leaned his head towards him, his face contorted in a ferocious expression: "Are you crazy? Let go!"
Xu Tangmian was comforting the child at the front desk, but her eyes were fixed on the movements not far away, her brows furrowed.
As soon as Yu Chunsheng made his move, Xu Zhilian's driver immediately stepped forward to stop him, but was grabbed by Li Youlan and his wife on the left and right sides respectively.
The group looked like they were about to fight, but apart from Xu Zhilian's earlier slap, it didn't actually cause much of a commotion. Seeing that they were all standing up without eating, the proprietress secretly picked up the phone, but Xu Tangmian stopped her.
"They won't fight; they're all friends."
The proprietress didn't believe it, saying, "They don't look like friends."
“Making a false police report will land you in jail,” Xu Tangmian threatened her. “Even if they fight, the police won’t blame you. If you meddle, the police will come after you.”
Hearing this, the proprietress stopped, picked up her abacus, and went back to the kitchen, muttering, "Do whatever you want, you'll have to pay for the broken things anyway."
Not far away, Yu Chunsheng suddenly tightened the chain again! Xu Zhilian's eyes widened suddenly, and he raised his hand to pry Yu Chunsheng's hand off, but the hand was as firm as an iron clamp.
A strong sense of suffocation instantly enveloped Xu Zhilian.
Yu Chunsheng whispered menacingly in his ear, his voice like it had crawled out of a grave, carrying a chilling calm: "Your eyes will swell and hurt, slowly your vision will blur... all the blood in your body will rush to your head, and you'll hear a buzzing roar in your ears..."
Xu Zhilian seemed to have thought of something. His struggling hands trembled uncontrollably, and his pale tongue protruded from between his two rows of teeth. His eyes gradually rolled back.
Yu Chunsheng then let go, pulled out a handkerchief to wipe his hands as if he had thrown away a piece of trash, straightened his collar which had been messed up, and calmly sat back down in his original seat.
Xu Zhilian was like a fish thrown onto a chopping board, clutching his neck and gasping for breath. He coughed incessantly, his eyes filled with fear and scheming towards Yu Chunsheng.
"You've only tasted a tiny bit of what it's like to be hanged."
Seeing that Yu Chunsheng had let go, Li Youlan and her husband quickly released their grip as well. The driver staggered towards Xu Zhilian, frantically asking, "Director! Are you alright?"
"Brother Lin." Xu Zhilian finally recovered and sat down a little distance away from them, forcing a fawning smile. "What happened back then was a misunderstanding."
"Perhaps you felt wronged, so you went to Brother Xingyao and asked them to find a master to perform a ritual for you. No matter what the cost, it's a good thing that you were able to come back to life."
He coughed twice more, then suddenly turned his gaze to Xu Tangmian, who was holding the child beside him.
Although she knew Xu Zhilian was not a good person, she still felt a little sorry for him when she witnessed him being nearly strangled to death.
No matter what, she couldn't completely separate the person in front of her from the grandfather who doted on her in her memory. So, when Xu Zhilian pounced on her, she was completely unprepared.
Xu Zhilian's smiling face suddenly turned ferocious the moment he turned around, like a fanged demon about to tear them all to pieces!
He swiftly snatched Xu Qiushi away, lifted her high above his head, and laughed heartily, "Brother Lin! I win again! You're destined to lose to me!"
"No!!" Xu Tangmian went completely mad, her bloodshot eyes fixed on the crying baby above her head.
No mother could bear such a scene, especially when the person was... her most beloved grandfather!
Suddenly everything went black, and her legs gave way, causing her to collapse.
Yu Chunsheng flew over and hugged her, forgetting about the child, and quickly pinched her philtrum to wake her up.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!" he apologized frantically. "Wake up! It's all my fault!"
He shouldn't have acted impulsively, wanting to take a small revenge for his past misfortunes. He already knew he was her biological grandfather, and he had already convinced himself to let go of his hatred. What was he doing just now?
Knowing full well that Qiu Shi was both her life and his own, he still acted like a child out of spite over something that happened twenty years ago, letting his own daughter fall into the hands of such a person!
Yu Chunsheng wished he could just smash his head against a wall and die! If his life could bring happiness to the mother and daughter for the rest of their lives, he would die without hesitation!
Perhaps hearing his inner call, Xu Tangmian's eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly raised her eyelids and sat up. But the next second, seeing her daughter still being held high, she jumped up in panic.
Li Youlan was so frightened that her mouth gaped open, and she bent over with her arms outstretched, afraid that the child would fall from Xu Zhilian's hands.
While Xu Zhilian's attention was focused on the young couple, Liu Xingyao quietly stepped onto the table and attempted to snatch the child from behind Xu Zhilian.
At the critical moment, the driver suddenly shouted, "Chief, watch out!"
Xu Zhilian suddenly realized what was happening, glanced to the side, and tossed the child high into the air without looking back!
"Qiushi!" Yu Chunsheng shouted and pounced over, his leg slamming onto the table with a thud, catching the child steadily.
Ignoring the pain in his leg, he limped toward Xu Tangmian and carefully lifted the swaddling clothes.
Little Qiushi seemed to really enjoy playing like this, giggling and kicking her little legs wildly.
"Qiushi!!" Xu Tangmian's tears fell as she hugged the child tightly, wishing she could melt into her own chest.
Yu Chunsheng could no longer hold back and gritted his teeth to throw a punch, knocking out one of Xu Zhilian's front teeth!
"brute!"
