Happy birthday

Happy birthday

Xu Tangmian tiptoed to the door, afraid of disturbing the "adulterous couple" inside.

She cautiously pushed the door open a crack; the room was pitch black. The sound of a harmonica drowned out her small movements. The figure on the bed was rustling, unaware that she had returned.

First came a few fragmented, incoherent melodies, which gradually came together to form a disjointed song.

It's "The Moon Represents My Heart".

Xu Tangmian felt as if a string was taut in her heart. She prayed to heaven: Please, let it all be a misunderstanding.

As the song ended, Yu Chunsheng looked up and suddenly saw her, startling him so much that he cried out, "Ouch!"

He jumped out of bed in surprise and walked over to her, asking excitedly, "Why are you back so early? Didn't you stay out a little longer?"

Xu Tangmian didn't reply to him, but instead glanced casually at the bed. Making sure no one was on the bed, she circled around it and asked him seemingly unintentionally, "Why is the room so dark in broad daylight?"

Yu Chunsheng didn't answer her, but walked straight to the table. As he moved, Xu Tangmian noticed a round, unidentified object on the table.

Yu Chunsheng opened the packaging box, took out a match from his pocket, struck it, lit a candle, and stuck it in the box.

It's a cream cake! He actually knew my birthday?

The dim candlelight illuminated the small room, trembling with the breeze from Yu Chunsheng's footsteps. The orange candlelight illuminated his face, allowing Xu Tangmian to see the joy and caution on his face.

He was afraid the candle would go out, so he walked very slowly. He carried the six-inch cream cake with both hands, quite a distance away.

Because he also needs to sing.

A deep voice rose and fell in the flickering candlelight, slowly approaching her.

You could hear the laughter in his voice; without even looking, you knew he was grinning and singing, "You ask me how deep my love is, how much I love you?"

"...My feelings remain unchanged, my love endures, the moon represents my heart."

As I walked up to her, the singing stopped.

Yu Chunsheng smiled and held the cake, saying gently and calmly, "Happy birthday, darling."

Xu Tangmian froze, standing there blankly.

Just a few days ago, she was laughing at him for not even having heard this song before and not knowing if it was "Sword Butterfly". But now, he can play it and sing it.

This was the smallest and most rustic cake she could remember, but it was also the most meaningful cake.

Unlike the extravagance of a birthday party, unlike the hustle and bustle of a crowd, unlike the social interactions that come and go.

There is only two people here, and the touch of two hearts.

Crystalline tears welled up in her eyes, and as the string in her heart snapped, they streamed down her face and fell to the ground.

She took a deep breath, blew out the candles, snatched the cake from Yu Chunsheng's hands and placed it aside, then suddenly pounced on him.

Yu Chunsheng had never realized that Xu Tangmian had such strength; the impact made his chest hurt.

Before he could even feign pitifulness, her soft lips sealed his words.

Xu Tangmian hugged him tightly, as if she wanted to strangle him. She wasn't tall enough, and it would be very uncomfortable for her to lean in and kiss him like that, so he could only take the initiative and break free from her grasp, wrapping his arms around her waist and lifting her up with his hands.

She struggled upwards a couple more times, and Yu Chunsheng finally released his hand from her waist, supporting her and lifting her up.

Her breathing was a little unsteady, and she wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, whispering in his ear, "Close the door."

As if bewitched, Yu Chunsheng carried her to the door, his gentle kisses falling on her face like a spring drizzle.

He couldn't wait any longer, so he closed the door and went to find her lips, making up for the few seconds he had wasted.

They fell onto the bed together, and he instinctively reached out to undress her, but she stopped him.

At the critical moment! Yu Chunsheng asked her anxiously, "Is it inconvenient?"

"No," Xu Tangmian said awkwardly, "It seems like last time... that... we've used it all up?"

"What?" Yu Chunsheng kept talking, greedily rubbing his face against hers.

"set."

Yu Chunsheng suddenly realized that since he stopped working at the supply and marketing cooperative, he rarely went to the store to buy this.

"Are you done using it?" His voice was a little hoarse.

Xu Tangmian pushed him away, turned over, and opened the bedside drawer to confirm, "There aren't any left."

Yu Chunsheng couldn't wait any longer and said, "If it really doesn't work out, how about we just have a child?"

“No way.” Xu Tangmian immediately rejected the idea. “Your job is unstable, and mine is just getting on track. Plus, our house is so dilapidated. How can we have a child?”

"Let's eat the cake first." Xu Tangmian got up and got out of bed.

"No, no, no!" Yu Chunsheng rolled out of bed, put on his clothes, and walked out. "I'll go buy it."

"Where are you going to buy it?" Xu Tangmian called out to him, pointing to his pants, "Don't let anyone notice."

Yu Chunsheng glanced down, then picked up his coat from the hanger and wrapped it around his waist, adjusting its position so that it just covered the front of his body.

All other places were too far away, and thinking that the clinic might be open, Yu Chunsheng rode there.

Song Weidong sat in a chair, gesturing and writing something. Li Yutao was sitting on a bench next to him. There were only the two of them in the room.

Seeing that there were female comrades here, Yu Chunsheng felt a little embarrassed and leaned against the doorway, coughing twice.

Song Weidong looked up at him: "Yu Chunsheng? Is something the matter?"

"Come out for a moment," Yu Chunsheng beckoned to him.

But when he turned around, it was Li Yutao who came.

She said seriously, "His legs need to recover right now. Tell me if there's anything you need."

Yu Chunsheng: "..."

He wiped his nose, a little embarrassed, and said, "I'd better tell him."

He walked in somewhat awkwardly and whispered a few words in Song Weidong's ear.

Song Weidong glanced at him with a strange expression. "It's broad daylight now."

"Stop asking, just give it to me!" Yu Chunsheng said sheepishly.

Song Weidong had no choice but to turn the key and take a box from the cabinet for him, kindly asking, "Is this enough?"

"Go about your business!" That was his reply, only to be met with a hasty retreat.

Li Yutao walked in looking completely bewildered, nodded, and asked him, "What did he say to you? Can't I listen?"

Song Weidong looked embarrassed. "It's nothing, don't ask."

"You're hiding something from me again." Li Yutao walked towards him with a stern face. "I saw it all. You took something from here for him. Is it another one of your little secrets?"

"I'm your girlfriend now, and you're still having secrets with other people behind my back." Li Yutao squeezed into the gap between the chair and the wall with a resentful look, squatted down with one hand on the drawer, and stopped Song Weidong from opening the cabinet.

"You old liar, I'm going to see for myself..."

Li Yutao suddenly froze, her face flushed, and asked him, "Was that what he came to get?"

"Hmm." Song Weidong nodded, snatched the cabinet from Li Yutao's hand, threw it back, and locked the cabinet.

Li Yutao felt embarrassed to take any more, so she took small steps back to the bench and sat down. Suddenly, she realized, "What a scumbag! He's clearly using his bedroom skills to seduce Sister Tangtang."

Song Weidong: "..."

"Didn't you really like him?" Song Weidong tapped the table lightly with his fingers. "I heard you raved about Yu Chunsheng before. If he weren't married, you probably would have been pursuing him, right?"

“You like Sister Tangtang too, right? I didn’t mind at all.” Li Yutao said, crossing her legs. “We’re even.”

"You don't mind?" Song Weidong chuckled. "Then it's a ghost that I had a cold war with Xiao Xu for more than a month because of a casual remark I made in anger."

"You keep bringing up old, trivial matters," Li Yutao said impatiently. "I didn't realize the old man was so petty."

Song Weidong glanced at her, somewhat displeased, and said, "Could you please stop calling me 'old thing' all the time? Especially in front of outsiders?"

Li Yutao smiled and walked over to him, pressing her against his back and kissing him on the cheek. "What's wrong, old man? Are you angry?"

Song Weidong moved away, glanced at her with some disdain, and wiped his face with the back of his hand, saying, "We're outside, be mindful of your behavior."

Li Yutao gently lifted her bottom and sat on the table, supporting herself with her hands behind her back and swinging her legs to hook his leg. "Anything is fine when we're indoors?"

Song Weidong had never experienced such a scene before, and his face immediately turned red. He coughed twice and said sternly, "Stop fooling around, it won't look good if the people who come later see this."

Li Yutao snorted and jumped down again, saying meaningfully, "You're unhappy when I say you're old, but it's true. Does that mean you'll be young if I don't say it?"

“There’s no need to keep saying it, is there?” Song Weidong retorted. “People will say I’m an old cow eating young grass, that would be awful.”

“Then you don’t have to eat it.” Li Yutao leaned against the table, moved closer to him, and stopped just a centimeter away from his lips. She whispered, “Did I seduce you?”

Song Weidong's Adam's apple bobbed a few times, then he lowered his head and said, "My aunt and uncle are cooking at my house tonight. Do you want to go out and buy some fruit to visit them? I'll give you money."

“I want to eat you,” Li Yutao suddenly said bluntly.

Perhaps it was his blushing that emboldened her; Li Yutao, who had been shy when she opened the cabinet before, suddenly became a different person.

He didn't speak, so Li Yutao continued to provoke him, "How about it, old man? Can't you handle it anymore? Can you still stand up?"

“I really can’t stand up anymore.” Song Weidong pointed to his cane, his previously flushed face gradually returning to normal, and said seriously, “You’re right, I’m getting old.”

Li Yutao panicked and cupped his face, saying, "Don't be angry, I wasn't talking about your legs. Oh... I, I'll never call you an old man again."

Song Weidong pushed her away, took out a few coins from his pocket and placed them on the table, "Go buy some fruit."

"I'm not going," Li Yutao pouted. "Don't send me away, I won't tease you anymore."

Suddenly, Song Weidong pulled her over and made her sit on his lap, startling her so much that she cried out, "No way! You'll break your legs!"

"It's not this leg that's injured." Song Weidong raised his hand and reached deep into her thigh, murmuring softly, "After we get married, I'll show you if I can stand up again."

Li Yutao understood, blushed, jumped off his lap, grabbed the coin, and ran away.

A short while later, Xu Tangmian and his wife arrived carrying a cake.

Song Weidong glanced at them, wanting to say something but holding back because Xu Tangmian was there.

He put down his pen: "What is it now?"

Xu Tangmian said with a smile, "Today is my birthday. Chunsheng bought a big cake that we couldn't finish, so I wanted to share it with you and Xiaotao."

"It's your birthday?" Song Weidong grinned. "Congratulations!"

"Thank you." Xu Tangmian glanced around. "Did Xiaotao go back?"

"My uncle and his family are staying at my house and they wanted to have dinner together tonight, so I asked Xiaotao to buy some fruit to take back with them."

"I see." Xu Tangmian thought for a moment, "Then we won't disturb your family banquet any longer, let's go, Chunsheng."

"No, please." Song Weidong stood up and stopped him, "It's more fun with more people, and besides, my aunt likes you quite a bit."

He pointed to the cake and said, "You two can't finish it, so why don't you take it to my house and have a simple meal together?"

Xu Tangmian looked up at Yu Chunsheng: "What do you think?"

"Whatever you say," Yu Chunsheng said with a smile.

"Okay, let's go to your house now."
