Chapter 1: Dying with Resentment
"Cough cough cough~"
After a violent coughing fit, Gu Shuyan suddenly vomited a mouthful of black blood.
Upon seeing this, the maid Mingyu's eyes immediately reddened. "Miss, you've coughed up blood several times already. If this continues, I'm afraid..."
At this point, Mingyu couldn't help but choke up.
In the past, she would have run out to find the imperial physician long ago in this situation. But now, the two of them, mistress and servant, were locked in this dimly lit little room and couldn't get out at all, let alone go to fetch a doctor.
Seeing tears in her eyes, Gu Shuyan gave her a comforting look, "Silly girl, I'm fine. It's just a pity that Rui'er has to lose her mother at such a young age."
Gu Shuyan spoke calmly, as if she were talking about something insignificant, but Mingyu knew perfectly well how much her young mistress cared about the young master. If it weren't for her concern for him, her young mistress wouldn't have made it this far.
Just then, the locked door was kicked open from the outside, and a man in fine clothes slowly walked in.
Before the two could react, the man casually tossed the "thing" he was carrying directly in front of Gu Shuyan.
"Since the Crown Princess is worried about her son, why don't you accompany him on his journey?"
The cold voice reached her ears, but Gu Shuyan seemed not to hear it, because she saw her son, Rui'er, whom she was most worried about, lying in front of her covered in blood.
"Rui'er..." Gu Shuyan cried out in pain and stumbled to Rui'er. She tried to hug him with trembling hands, but seeing Rui'er's injured appearance, Gu Shuyan was at a loss for what to do.
"Rui'er, wake up, open your eyes and look at your mother, okay?"
Gu Shuyan's voice trembled as she tried to wake the sleeping child, but no matter how she called his name, Rui'er didn't respond at all. All she could do was carefully wipe the bloodstains from his face.
"Your Highness, my sister is so pitiful."
A delicate, sweet voice suddenly rang out. Upon hearing the voice, Gu Shuyan's gaze instantly swept towards Lu Youming and Gu Yingxue at the door, and a surge of overwhelming hatred welled up in her heart.
These two men, one her husband whom she relied on, and the other her trusted sister, were the very people who caused her family's ruin and left her poisoned. Now they're even going after her young son, Rui'er, who is so small and vulnerable, yet they can bring themselves to do it.
“Lu Youming, you beast! Even tigers don’t eat their cubs, yet you don’t even spare your own flesh and blood.”
Gu Shuyan's eyes were bloodshot with rage. If she could, she would tear these two people apart to appease the hundreds of lives lost in her mansion and to honor the spirit of her Rui'er in heaven.
Unfortunately, she is now as withered as a dead tree, and even walking is extremely difficult for her, so how could she possibly kill these two people?
Hearing Gu Shuyan's words, Gu Yingxue immediately covered her lips and giggled, "It seems that you don't know yet! In fact, Rui'er is not His Highness's child at all, but the bastard child of you and that traitor Yun Yichen. Otherwise, why would His Highness, who always gives you contraceptive medicine, let you give birth to this child?"
Gu Yingxue's eyes crinkled into a smile, her expression utterly mocking.
Upon hearing this, Gu Shuyan's eyes widened, and she looked at Lu Youming in disbelief.
The latter turned his head away in disgust, and with a wave of his hand, the guards behind him immediately drew their swords and walked towards Gu Shuyan.
"don't want!"
Just as the sword was about to pierce Gu Shuyan's body, Mingyu rushed over and used her body to firmly block Gu Shuyan's path.
"Mingyu!"
Seeing Mingyu slump to the ground after being stabbed, Gu Shuyan tried to help her up, but before she could stand up, she coughed up blood again and fell straight to the ground.
"Lu Youming, Gu Yingxue, even if I become a ghost, I will never let you go."
Gu Shuyan lay on the ground, her eyes filled with resentment as she stared intently at the two of them. With her last strength, she finished speaking and died beside Rui'er.
