Chapter 593 Seeking Your Help
After leaving the Yongshou Marquis's residence, Gu Shuyan did not return directly to the Yun residence, but went directly to find Meng Wei.
Now that both the Gu and Meng families are interested in a marriage, and the two families are frequently visiting each other, there's nothing wrong with Gu Shuyan going to find Meng Wei. And most importantly, Gu Shuyan knows that the Meng family has a fairly well-known embroidery workshop.
Before today, Gu Shuyan had already guessed Luo Yuping's purpose in taking the clothes. Now that her guess has been confirmed, Gu Shuyan naturally needs to hurry up and make arrangements.
Upon arriving at the Meng residence, the maid immediately led Gu Shuyan into Meng Wei's room.
"What brings you here today?" Meng Wei asked, pulling Gu Shuyan into the house while having a maid set out tea and snacks.
Gu Shuyan hadn't eaten anything all morning and was quite hungry, so she didn't stand on ceremony and picked up a snack and put it in her mouth.
However, after taking just one bite, Gu Shuyan exclaimed in surprise, "Sister Meng, these pastries are from Qinxinzhai. I've heard that their pastries are hard to find. It seems I'm in for a treat today."
As Gu Shuyan spoke, she unceremoniously picked up another piece and stuffed it into her mouth.
Seeing Gu Shuyan's unladylike eating manners, Meng Wei couldn't help but laugh and wipe the dregs from the corners of her lips before saying, "You do have good taste. If it weren't for Lord Yun's wealthy family, your mouth would definitely have eaten him out of house and home."
Faced with Meng Wei's teasing, Gu Shuyan raised her eyebrows slightly, "Of course! If it weren't for his wealthy family background, I wouldn't have married him so easily!"
Gu Shuyan put on an air of "I've suffered a great loss," which made Meng Wei glare at her. "Little sister, you speak so lightly, but deep down you probably think you'd be willing to eat chaff and wild vegetables with Lord Yun!"
"You understand me best, Sister Mengwei." Gu Shuyan smiled at Mengwei, then looked at the pastries in her hand. "I must say, these pastries are really delicious. No wonder so many people start lining up before dawn."
Qinxinzhai Pastry Shop is the largest pastry shop in the capital. Because of its unique flavor, it is very popular among various aristocratic families.
Some people even had their servants line up before dawn every day just to get a taste of Qinxinzhai's pastries. However, none of this concerned the Yun family, because whenever Gu Shuyan wanted a particular pastry, Yun Yichen would have the Yun family's pastry chef make it, and the chef's skills were exceptional. Therefore, Gu Shuyan did not yearn for Qinxinzhai.
"They start queuing before dawn?"
Gu Shuyan's words clearly caught Meng Wei's attention. Gu Shuyan saw doubt in her eyes and was certain that she was unaware of how difficult it was to buy the pastries.
"Didn't my sister have these pastries bought by herself?"
Although Qinxinzhai's pastries are delicious, they are not cheap, and most importantly, they are hard to buy. The Meng family has been declining in recent years, so they must be very careful with their money. They would not go to such lengths for a box of pastries.
"This was indeed not something I had someone buy myself; it was delivered by your older brother early this morning." Meng Wei nodded frankly, showing no concern that Gu Shuyan would find out the truth.
Gu Shuyan guessed this would be the case, and immediately winked at Meng Wei, "It seems that our iron tree has really blossomed, it has even learned to line up to buy pastries, not bad, not bad."
Gu Shuyan looked pleased, as if she were talking about a junior rather than her elder brother.
Teasing Gu Shuyan like that, Meng Wei couldn't help but cover her face and chuckle.
The two chatted for a while longer. After Gu Shuyan had barely filled her stomach, she said seriously to Meng Wei, "There's something I'd like to ask Sister Meng for help with."
As Gu Shuyan spoke, her gaze swept over everyone in the room. Upon seeing this, Meng Wei immediately dismissed everyone before turning to Gu Shuyan and asking, "I wonder what is it that requires such caution?"
With everyone else gone, Gu Shuyan immediately repeated to Meng Wei everything Luo Yuping had said to her.
"Now that Lady Yongshou is convinced that the clothes are embroidered, if this gets to His Majesty's ears, the consequences are unimaginable. Therefore, I want to use the Meng family's embroidery to spread the word about embroidery."
Gu Shuyan's words clearly startled Meng Wei, and it took her a long time before she looked at Gu Shuyan with some hesitation.
"According to what you've said, this embroidery has a close relationship with the Nie family of the previous dynasty. If the Meng family's embroidery workshop were to switch to embroidery, wouldn't there be some danger?"
Since Gu Shuyan knew the origin of the carving and embroidery, she still allowed the Meng family's embroidery workshop to do the carving and embroidery. Even though Meng Wei believed that Gu Shuyan would not harm the Meng family, she couldn't help but feel a little worried.
Gu Shuyan understood Meng Wei's concerns very well.
"Don't worry, Sister Meng. Since this embroidery is from the previous dynasty, no one in the market will know about it. The reason I came to you is mainly because I hope that the embroidery can be distributed to the major families as soon as possible. Besides, I won't just let the Meng family sell embroidery. Just listen to my arrangements."
Gu Shuyan was confident, and Meng Wei felt relieved. "I'm afraid we still need to discuss this with Mother. But don't worry, Shuyan, I will definitely be able to persuade Mother to help."
"Then thank you in advance, sister and Madam Meng."
Five days later, Luo Dong, who had been out of the public eye for a long time, appeared in front of the Marquis's residence.
Although Gu Jin did not know what the third young master of the Duke of Anguo's mansion was up to, he still had someone respectfully invite him in.
"May I ask what brings you here today, Young Master Luo?"
Gu Jin had someone invite Luo Dong into the house and served him tea before getting straight to the point and asking questions.
The Marquis's residence and the Duke of Anguo's residence had increased their exchanges during festivals over the past year or so because Luo Yu had saved Gu Shuyan. But apart from that, there was nothing else.
"I do have something to discuss with you today, Uncle. But before I explain why, may I be so bold as to ask you to invite your wife along as well?"
As Luo Dong spoke, he bowed deeply to Gu Jin, looking somewhat like he was begging Gu Jin.
After all, Luo Dong was just a son of a concubine. Even though his status in the Duke of Anguo's mansion had improved, his manner of treating people and things had long been ingrained, and he unconsciously showed a respectful attitude in every move.
It is said that one cannot hit a smiling face, and since Luo Dong's attitude was so sincere, Gu Jin naturally felt embarrassed to disagree.
Thus, Lady Ji was summoned to the front courtyard.
"Lord Marquis!" Madam Ji entered the living room and first curtsied slightly to Gu Jin before looking at Luo Dong beside her.
"I heard that Young Master Luo is looking for me?"
No matter what, Lady Ji was a lady of high rank, and as an elder, she unconsciously put on airs when facing Luo Dong.
Upon seeing this, Luo Dong first bowed to Madam Ji, and then respectfully said, "It is indeed I who am looking for Madam. I have something here that I would like to ask Madam to take a look at."
As Luo Dong spoke, he gestured to the attendant behind him, who immediately presented what he was holding to Ji Shi.
After glancing suspiciously at Luo Dong, Ji Shi finally turned her gaze to her attendant.
