Chapter 766 Rupture - Verdict
Gu Shuyan herself knew that those words were indeed too far-fetched to others.
But she could tell at a glance that the child wasn't hers and Yun Yichen's. Because the child's eyes didn't resemble Rui'er's at all.
Seeing that she was awake, Yun Yichen quickly brought over the chicken soup he had prepared. "You're awake! Drink some chicken soup first. How can you not eat anything after giving birth?"
Yun Yichen did not answer her question, but instead fed Gu Shuyan the chicken soup in a coaxing tone.
Gu Shuyan didn't listen to him and drink; instead, she stared straight into his eyes and asked, "Did you send someone to look for the child?"
As a mother, Gu Shuyan couldn't imagine what her newborn child would go through.
"We've already started looking for them, and we'll have news soon."
Yun Yichen answered with a serious expression, already holding the chicken soup to Gu Shuyan's lips.
Upon seeing this, Gu Shuyan slapped Yun Yichen's hand away, "There will be news soon? You haven't even looked for anyone, you don't believe me at all."
As Gu Shuyan spoke, she threw back the covers and tried to get out of bed, muttering, "Fine, if you're not going to help, I'll find my own child myself."
Seeing Gu Shuyan's appearance made Yun Yichen's expression even more unpleasant. He grabbed Gu Shuyan and held her down, refusing to let her leave no matter how much she struggled.
"Yun Yichen, let me go!"
This was the first time Gu Shuyan had yelled at Yun Yichen so recklessly, but even so, Yun Yichen still didn't let go of her.
"Can't you be a little more sensible? Don't you know your own physical condition? What can you do besides ruining your health by searching aimlessly like this?"
This was the first time Yun Yichen had spoken such harsh words to Gu Shuyan from the bottom of his heart, and Gu Shuyan was completely stunned.
Yes! My body is teetering on the brink of collapse, what else can I do?
And most importantly, she had no idea how to find her child.
Seeing that Gu Shuyan had finally calmed down, Yun Yichen said, "Don't worry, I already know who took our child, and I've already sent Wuyin and the others to chase after them."
Yun Yichen's voice softened, and Gu Shuyan, hearing this, asked uncertainly, "Really?"
Yun Yichen nodded and picked up the chicken soup again. "Really, so for the sake of the child, you need to recover quickly."
Gu Shuyan stopped making a fuss. She picked up the chicken soup and drank it all down under Yun Yichen's watchful eye. After eating some other things, she asked Yun Yichen who had taken the child away.
In response, Yun Yichen lied to Gu Shuyan, shifting the blame directly onto the old man.
As for the Fourth Prince and the matters in the palace, Yun Yichen chose to tell Gu Shuyan after the child was found.
Three days later, the emperor swiftly exiled the fifth prince to the north, while all the male members of the Sun family were sentenced to immediate execution. As for the women of the Sun family, they were all sold off as slaves.
On the way to exile, whenever the Fifth Prince stopped, he would stare blankly at the distant mountain peaks he had never seen before. Sometimes, the yamen runners would ask him what he was looking at out of curiosity.
He smiled and said, "I'm observing life."
The constables didn't understand the deeper meaning in his words, and assumed that he had a mental problem because of falling from a height.
But only the Fifth Prince knew that he was truly observing life. Over the years, he never imagined that he would end up like this.
Sometimes he even wondered if he hadn't schemed to overthrow the crown prince and had instead chosen to be a carefree prince, would he still be living a carefree life now?
However, there's no going back in life; what's past is past.
Perhaps exile is better; at least he can still see the beautiful landscapes of the Great Zhou Dynasty without having to think about those intrigues and deceitful schemes.
The Fifth Prince had made his plans. Once he arrived at his place of exile, he would experience life as an ordinary citizen.
What he didn't expect was that before he even reached his destination, the officials who had received the emperor's secret order would, in the near future, use the excuse that he couldn't bear the suffering of exile to kill him on this road he was already filled with regret.
Wuyin and Wuqing followed Shadow for several days, witnessing firsthand how Shadow went from barely managing to cope at the beginning to suffering a mental breakdown later on.
If it weren't for the need to safely bring the child to Jin, the two would have no doubt that, given Shadow's current state of mind, they would have already dealt with this troublesome infant.
Seeing that the baby was driving Shadow to the brink of death, Wuyin and Wuqing worried that if this continued, Shadow would really harm the child. So the two decided to take action as soon as they found an opportunity.
In the village outside the official road, the shadows shone as usual as they carried their children to find milk for them.
The only woman in the village who was breastfeeding opened the door for Shadow. Looking at the child's swollen eyes from crying, the woman glanced at Shadow suspiciously before taking the child into the inner room.
The woman's mother-in-law warmly welcomed Shadow to sit down and served him the best food in the house.
Although it was just a simple meal of vegetables and cured meat, it was already a very luxurious meal for such a small family.
If it weren't for the fact that Shadow had given them a lot of silver, the woman in the house wouldn't have been willing to take it out.
"The reader is traveling alone with a child; where is the child's mother?"
The woman was a talkative person. Although she saw that the shadow was dressed in black and looked unapproachable, she was not afraid of gossip at all.
"Died on the way!"
Shadow has said this many times recently, and now when asked about it, he can answer it fluently.
"Oh my, how did this one die? The baby looks premature, could it be a difficult birth?"
The woman used the word "gossip" to its fullest extent, but Shadow didn't even glance at him and continued eating.
Just then, the woman who was breastfeeding her baby next door came over and waved to the mother, saying, "Mother, bring me another bowl of the meat soup tonight. I'm not producing enough milk."
The fact that the woman needed nutrition to feed the child did not arouse any suspicion from Shadow.
Hearing this, the woman cursed inwardly at the little woman who was nursing the baby, who was deliberately taking the opportunity to beg for food. But considering that Shadow had given her a lot of money, she still poured a bowl of soup and brought it into the woman's room.
After returning, the woman continued to gossip tirelessly with Shadow. Shadow got annoyed by the woman's questions and didn't want to go into the woman's room to see her breastfeeding. After eating, he had no choice but to leave the yard and wander around the village.
Wuyin and Wuqing had been waiting for an opportunity, and when they saw that Anying had left the young master behind by himself, they were overjoyed and immediately rushed into the courtyard.
