Chapter 129 Thoughts
Where there is jealousy, there is envy. And here comes the one who spoke, a second-class maid.
Another person nodded in agreement: "If you ask me, she's just lucky. There are so many people out there, and there are plenty of girls prettier than Mingyu. How did the young lady fall for her? It's just fate!"
"Bullshit about fate, I don't believe it."
The maidservant looked disapproving, and Mingyu frowned unhappily as she watched the two whispering to each other.
"What are you muttering about? Why aren't you getting to work?"
Upon hearing Mingyu's words, the two dared not delay and immediately nodded before quickly leaving.
No one noticed the maid sweeping in the corner of the courtyard.
"Yes, as long as you have the means, anyone can become a head maid."
The young maidservant continued sweeping her assigned area, but in her heart, she began to secretly plot her next move.
In the stillness of the night, the lights in the main house of the North Courtyard had long been turned off, and even the maids had gradually drifted off to sleep.
Suddenly emerging from the room in the dead of night, the shadowy figure glanced at the empty courtyard under the moonlight and darted out of the yard with practiced ease.
"Miss, there really is something wrong with this ginkgo."
Mingyu lowered her voice and said.
Gu Shuyan quickly gestured for her to be quiet.
Soon, the two followed the ginkgo tree through a maze of twists and turns to a dilapidated little house. Thinking of the aunt Fei'er had mentioned, Gu Shuyan immediately had some guesses in her mind.
"Auntie, are you there?"
Yinxing knocked on the door and called out softly inside.
Aunt Zhang opened her eyes at the sound, quickly got up and opened the door. She glanced around and, seeing no movement, pulled Yinxing into the room.
Lighting a candle, Aunt Zhang said unhappily, "Why are you here? Didn't I tell you not to come here for a while?"
"It's not that I wanted to come, but that I have a favor to ask of you, Auntie."
Yinxing knew how dangerous it was to come to this place, but she had no choice; she really didn't want to continue sweeping the floors in the North Courtyard.
"Tell me, what are you busy with?"
Aunt Zhang's tone was not very friendly.
Yinxing could tell that Aunt Zhang didn't like her, but she didn't care.
"Auntie, I'd like to get some medicine from you, the kind that makes someone look seriously ill but isn't necessarily in mortal danger."
Yinxing got straight to the point, stating her request. Aunt Zhang was amused by her words.
"You think you can just take my medicine whenever you want?"
No way! The medicines she has are all rare and unavailable on the market. How dare this little maid brazenly tell her they're poison? She's utterly ignorant of her place.
“Of course I know that it was not easy for you to get the medicine, but we are in the same boat. Besides, I got the medicine to deal with Gu Shuyan. If all goes well, I can become her maid. If I can become Gu Shuyan's head maid, I wonder if that would be a good thing for you, Aunt?”
Yinxing was clearly not as simple as she appeared; she threw out her own piece, seemingly leaving the choice to Aunt Zhang.
In reality, if Aunt Zhang wanted to deal with Gu Shuyan, she would never refuse her suggestion. After all, no one understood the difference between a head maid and a cleaning maid better than Aunt Zhang.
"I can give you the medicine, but you absolutely must not involve me in this matter. As you know, that official has a rather bad temper."
Aunt Zhang did not refuse Yinxing's request, but she also wouldn't let her easily deliver the medicine. They were all under the same master's control, and Yinxing probably wouldn't dare to betray her.
