The malevolent and resentful aura was exceptionally strong, causing the area around the courtyard to be barren, devoid of birds, and silent of insects. The central area was even more terrifying, where the faint wails and mournful howls of a hundred ghosts could be heard.
However, there is one person, or perhaps a blade of grass, who is constantly at odds with this contradiction.
"Xiaobai, Xiaobai, have you ever felt this way? Hmm, it's like... right, every time you hear them cry with joy, don't you feel very satisfied and happy? And this place is so warm and cozy, like you've had a full meal." Xiaoqing clutched her chest, looking pleased, but asked with a puzzled expression.
The more you say, the more mistakes you make; the less you say, the fewer mistakes you make. Having not received the original owner's memories, Ji Xiaoxiao lacked the courage to speak freely with Xiaoqing, and simply nodded.
With her good friend's approval, Xiaoqing's speed increased considerably. Two hours later, a large jar of souls had been completely consumed by the two little fairies, Ji Xiaoxiao and Xiaoqing.
"Xiao Bai, after lunch we can rest for a while. Once the sun isn't too strong, we'll have to get back to work," Xiao Qing said, her voice a mixture of joy and worry.
Hearing this, Ji Xiaoxiao was secretly delighted. After the two of them finished lunch, their bellies were bulging. Xiaoqing rubbed her lower back and walked slowly towards her room.
Watching Xiaoqing's door creak shut, Ji Xiaoxiao's expression shifted. She opened the door, closed it, lay down on the bed, and closed her eyes—all in one smooth motion.
As soon as I closed my eyes, a vast and boundless sea of memories surged forth, baring its fangs and claws.
Xiao Bai was a little white rabbit who, by the mercy of Heaven, was bestowed with the power of creation and unknowingly transformed into human form. As the old saying goes, "When one attains enlightenment, even his chickens and dogs ascend to heaven." Xiao Qing, who was trampled under Xiao Bai's feet, received a tiny bit of this power and also transformed into a human.
The two little fairies were bewildered by the sudden transformation, but they were carefree and happy, holding hands and playing together in the dense, dark forest of magical beasts.
In the Demon Beast Forest, the two big brothers and sisters, who had gained sentience and taken human form, feared that the Heavenly Dao would punish them with a terrible crime, so they dared not harm Xiaobai and Xiaoqing. Instead, they protected these two innocent and harmless little demons in every way. Everyone knew that they wanted to carefully cultivate them into mascots that were famous far and wide in the Demon Beast Forest.
Having someone to protect you is a good thing. However, good times don't last forever. On the day of the raging storm, a severely injured cultivator broke into the Demon Beast Forest.
The cultivator was the sect leader of the Clear Water Sect, named Shui Wuhen. During a battle with the demons, he was caught off guard and ambushed. In his haste to escape, he accidentally entered the Demon Beast Forest.
As its name suggests, the little white demon is silly, cute, and innocent. It leaves no trace when wet and is covered in wounds. In a moment of impulse, without thinking, the demon drags the creature back home and takes care of it diligently.
A year later, Shui Wuhen, now fully recovered, used sweet words to win the hearts of the two little fairies. When he left, he was accompanied by two beautifully made-up girls.
Xiao Bai and Xiao Qing are new to the mortal world and find everything fascinating. Shui Wuhen also earnestly teaches the two little demons the principles of conduct and interpersonal relationships, such as that murder is not a crime and that right and wrong are reversed.
And so, under the accumulated distorted values and upbringing, Xiaobai and Xiaoqing completely transformed into soft, cute, and harmless big devils.
Thus began the tragic journey of Xiaobai and Xiaoqing.
Shui Wuhen didn't rush back to the Qingshui Sect to take charge of the overall situation. Instead, he found a remote town, bought a small courtyard surrounded by deserted people, and properly settled Xiaobai and Xiaoqing.
Having hidden himself away like a rat that everyone wanted to kill, and with no worries about the future, Shui Wuhen returned to the small courtyard alone after disappearing for three days and three nights. His face was dark, his body was covered in wounds, and he was carrying a huge stone mill.
After recuperating for a few days, Shui Wuhen began having Xiaobai and Xiaoqing grind grain. Every day, Shui Wuhen would have Xiaobai and Xiaoqing grind three large jars of souls. If the task was not completed by the deadline, they would be whipped mercilessly, each lash going deep enough to see the bone.
Xiao Bai and Xiao Qing had made a fuss and cried, but Shui Wuhen always managed to coax them back to normal with a few words. He believed that hitting and scolding were a sign of affection, and not hitting or scolding was a recipe for disaster. Xiao Bai and Xiao Qing were easily swayed by Shui Wuhen's tactics.
And so things went on, and ten years passed in the blink of an eye. As usual, Xiaobai pushed the giant millstone, and Xiaoqing inserted the soul, when suddenly several reclusive powerful figures appeared in the clear sky. Among these powerful figures was Shui Wuhen, who had been living with Xiaobai and Xiaoqing for ten years.
Before Xiaobai and Xiaoqing could even hug and cry with their master who had been missing for more than half a year, the powerful being standing in mid-air glanced at the stone mill in the center of the courtyard and started to attack without saying a word.
Although they were transformed spirits, Xiaobai and Xiaoqing had never diligently cultivated. Compared to ordinary mountain spirits and monsters, they had no advantage whatsoever, let alone facing a reclusive powerhouse. To escape this calamity and live without fear was already a stroke of good fortune amidst misfortune.
Xiao Bai was blessed by Heaven, and no powerful figure could harm her. Xiao Qing, weak and powerless with no reliable backing, was easily killed by Shui Wuhen, who turned his back on her.
The sisters who grew up together were utterly defeated by Shui Wuhen, who had always been their teacher, friend, and father figure, leaving Xiaobai physically and mentally traumatized. After escaping the encirclement of powerful beings, Xiaobai returned alone to the Monster Forest to cultivate diligently.
The sun and moon are silent, the universe is boundless, and three hundred years have passed in the blink of an eye.
When Xiaobai emerged from seclusion, her cultivation level was already among the top in the Demon Beast Forest. If she were placed in the mortal world, only a few old fogies could barely put up a fight with her.
Having mastered immense power, Xiao Bai's purpose and direction were clear: to go to the Qing Shui Sect, personally destroy the hypocrite Shui Wuhen, and sever his cycle of reincarnation.
That day, Xiao Bai couldn't understand why the powerful being was so enraged, and why he wanted to eliminate her so quickly. Having witnessed all the bitterness of life and tasted all the flavors of life, Xiao Bai was oblivious to her own suffering, causing countless souls to be scattered and their hearts to ache as if being torn apart by a knife.
