The next day, as the sun rose, the sky was shrouded in mist.
Ji Xiaoxiao drifted off to sleep, vaguely feeling someone carrying her somewhere. Then she cried out, and was jostled up and down. Her whole body felt like it was being dismembered, aching and sore.
"Dali, give me water." A weak, feeble murmur.
After an unknown amount of time, Ji Xiaoxiao was parched and her throat felt like it was on fire.
A cool sensation passed through her mouth, down her throat, and into her stomach. Ji Xiaoxiao felt much better and slowly tried to open her eyes, but sleep suddenly overwhelmed her, and she was plunged back into darkness.
Three days later, at the entrance to Death Forest.
"Miss, the old master and the others have repeatedly told you not to go back." Dali pleaded with Ji Xiaoxiao, tearfully grabbing her thigh and begging her to be reasonable.
The original owner's wish was to protect her beloved family. If Xie Li and the others were to die in an accident, with their eyes wide open in disbelief, Ji Xiaoxiao couldn't imagine what would happen to her mission.
"Let go! Grandpa and the others are in trouble. As their daughter, how can I just stand by and watch them die?" Ji Xiaoxiao tugged at her back, trying to pull away from Dali, this big brother.
"Zhishu, come here and help me persuade the young lady!" Three cobblers can outwit Zhuge Liang, and the quick-witted Zhishu has always been the object of admiration for the tongue-tied Dali.
Zhi Shu packed her bags and said indifferently, "Miss, what good will it do if you go back? You're just a first-level Martial King. What help can you be to the old master and the others if you go back?"
Zhi Shu's words were like a blow to the head, waking up the clueless Ji Xiaoxiao.
She's just a lowly first-tier Martial King. Going back wouldn't be of any help; in fact, it might hinder Xie Li and the others, and drag them down with her.
"Even ants try to survive, so perhaps the Xie family has some way to protect themselves and prevent the enemy from harming them for a while," Ji Xiaoxiao thought optimistically.
Closing her eyes and calming her agitated emotions, Ji Xiaoxiao said, "Dali, let go!"
"I won't let go, Darry will never let go, even if it kills me." Darry was simple-minded and incredibly stubborn.
"I won't go back, okay?"
Ji Xiaoxiao couldn't refuse the kindness and sincerity of some people.
"Really?" Daryl tilted his head and looked up at him sideways.
"Absolutely true." Ji Xiaoxiao was speechless. A top-notch maid, I have one.
Dali was simple-minded. He let go of her hand, stood up, and there were still a few withered grasses on his face and head. His little mouth was turned up in a big smile, and he looked silly.
Ji Xiaoxiao smiled and instructed Dali to tidy up his appearance. Half an hour later, the three of them shared their luggage and slowly walked into the gloomy Death Forest.
...
The atmosphere in the evil mansion was heavy, with a sense of impending conflict.
Situ Sisi sobbed, and Xie Fengfei absentmindedly tried to coax her.
"Feng Fei, why did you have to send Mei Mei to the Death Forest? It's a dangerous place, full of hidden dangers. If Mei Mei..."
When you're down on your luck, you're prone to jinxing things; everyone hates that foul mouth that says whatever comes true.
Xie Feng's love for his daughter was no less than that for Situ Sisi. However, in matters of life and death, taking a risky gamble might be the only way to survive.
A figure like Ling Shen, capable of manipulating events at will, could normally roam freely in most places. However, it's common knowledge that the Death Forest is a vast and perilous region, one of the most dangerous on the continent, teeming with countless magical beasts and spirit creatures, whose deadly power is imperceptible. If Ling Shen were to attempt a large-scale search of the Death Forest, he would undoubtedly suffer heavy casualties, making it a losing proposition.
Therefore, their daughter might be safe and sound in the Forest of Death.
Situ Sisi was fully aware of Xie Fengfei and Xie Li's plans.
A mother worries when her son travels a thousand miles; what can one do with a mother's loving heart!
"Feng Fei, Mei Mei will be alright." She comforted herself and encouraged others.
After coaxing Situ Sisi to sleep and settling his wife into bed, Xie Fengfei, with a worried expression, pushed open the study door and stepped inside.
“Father,” Xie Fengfei said.
"How is Sisi?" Xie Li asked.
"She's asleep." Xie Fengfei exclaimed in surprise, "Father, what's going on?"
On the sinister-looking desk lay a small, round sphere the size of an egg. The sphere was entirely black, with a hollowed-out surface, through which a faint golden light shimmered, as brilliant as stars.
"Our Xie family's heirloom—[Tongtian]." Xie Li picked up the small sphere with one hand and waved the other, gesturing for Xie Fengfei to come over. "Swallow it."
Knowing that Xie Li wouldn't harm him, Xie Fengfei reached out and took the small sphere. Without asking why, he opened his mouth and swallowed it. He thought it would be difficult to swallow, but the small sphere turned into a wisp of green smoke and flew directly into Xie Fengfei's stomach.
“Father…” Xie Fengfei looked dumbfounded. Xie Li said, “Fei’er, I know what you want to ask, but this is not something I can tell you.”
Xie Fengfei opened his mouth, but ultimately swallowed his words.
Three days later, an extraordinary figure arrived at the Evil Mansion—the Martial God Po Kui.
"The world is going to the dogs, people's hearts are no longer what they used to be. When did the Martial God Po Kui start robbing and pillaging?" Xie Fengfei held Situ Sisi, his face contorted with rage, but inside he was seething with anger. He had thought that the one who would visit the Xie family would be the Spirit God Xiu Ran, but who would have thought that it would be the ultimate killer king, Po Kui Rocket Cannon, who showed up instead.
Po Kui tore off Xie Li's foot and threw it aside, saying indifferently, "A real man should take what he wants with his own hands. How can this be called robbery?" Having lived for many years, Po Kui was eloquent and persuasive.
"Aren't you afraid of the God-Appraisal Tower?" Xie Fengfei felt a glimmer of hope.
The God-Appraisal Tower is the only mysterious organization on the continent capable of restraining, imprisoning, and killing Martial Gods and Spirit Gods. They generally live in seclusion unless the Martial Gods or Spirit Gods make a major move.
