Ji Xiaoxiao, Zhishu, and Dali have been in the Death Forest for three days.
Along the way, the endless greenery was dazzling, but it became tiresome after a while.
Towering trees, each requiring several people to encircle, had umbrella-shaped canopies that covered a vast area, casting dappled sunlight on the ground. Despite the bright sunshine, a chilling wind blew through the forest.
Ji Xiaoxiao stepped on broken branches and fallen leaves, and insects of all sizes crawled over the back of her feet. The slight itch was no longer enough to make Ji Xiaoxiao jump up and roar in anger.
Dali helped the blood-loss-prone Zhishu, while Ji Xiaoxiao, with her eyes and ears alert, carefully led the way. Reflecting on the past three days, tears of bitterness streamed down her face.
Upon arriving in the Death Forest, they encountered a swarm of army ants hunting for food. They picked on the weakest among them, and three of them outnumbered the one who was weak. In the blink of an eye, they abandoned the second-tier magical beast, the water-spraying mole, and swarmed towards the three frail women. They were densely packed and fiery red like flames.
One is born in hardship and dies in comfort.
Knowing that things should be done in advance, in order to deal with the various dangers and ferocious creatures in the Death Forest, the all-powerful little angel took out a few firework bombs from his bag and threw them hard into the army ants. With the sound of explosions and flames, Ji Xiaoxiao and the others were temporarily safe.
However, life is full of disappointments, and everyone encounters a jerk in their life.
The Death Forest truly lived up to its name, living up to its name. Ji Xiaoxiao and her companions had barely escaped when a massive, blood-devouring wolf, emboldened by its size, set its sights on the three delicate women. Its egg-sized eyes gleamed with a chilling light. Its exposed fangs would easily pierce through anyone it set its sights on. Whether from hunger or craving, the wolf's drool dripped incessantly, its drops sizzling and corroding the ground.
"Blood-devouring wolf, an enhanced magical beast, has no elemental attacks, is agile, and its saliva is highly corrosive." Zhi Shu explained to Ji Xiaoxiao while fiddling with the things in the bundle.
"Elemental attack?" What the hell? Ji Xiaoxiao was full of confusion.
Zhi Shu closed her eyes and smiled faintly. She took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, repeating this several times. Then, she told Ji Xiaoxiao everything in detail.
The beasts of the Death Forest are divided into magical beasts and spirit beasts. Magical beasts are mostly evil, while spirit beasts are rarely heard of committing evil deeds. Magical beasts can be further divided into elemental magical beasts and enhanced magical beasts. Elemental magical beasts can use elemental attacks, which can be simply explained by techniques such as flooding a mountain or burning a city with heavenly fire. Enhanced magical beasts do not have the ability to communicate with the elements of heaven and earth; they only have physical advantages in a certain aspect, such as clairvoyance, super hearing, or lightning speed.
After listening to the basic information about magical beasts, Ji Xiaoxiao wanted to ask about spirit beasts. Zhishu patted Ji Xiaoxiao and said, "Miss, although the saliva of the Blood-Drinking Wolf is corrosive, its combat power is only equivalent to a first-level Martial King in martial arts cultivation or a first-level Spirit King in spiritual cultivation."
“Yes, I know, you already said that,” Ji Xiaoxiao nodded.
“Miss, the main purpose of your trip is to gain experience and improve your strength. The old master told me that only by fighting against strong opponents and going through life and death can one achieve something in the path of martial arts.” Zhi Shu said with a straight face, taking out a piece of dried meat from her bundle and taking a big bite.
Ji Xiaoxiao glanced at the dried meat. They were both in the same boat, and suddenly she understood why the Blood-Drinking Wolf was drooling so much.
Zhi Shu ate a piece of dried meat, while Ji Xiaoxiao stared at Zhi Shu's peach-colored lips with teary eyes.
"Miss, go!" Zhi Shu felt she would fail the old master's trust.
With her mind filled with thoughts of meat, Ji Xiaoxiao naturally said, "Zhishu, give me a piece of meat."
Food is of paramount importance to the people.
Even for a scholar with a cold heart and a broad mind, it is not surprising that he erupted like a volcano at this moment.
"If we win, we'll have food. If we lose, there's no dinner tonight!" Zhishu shouted.
When Ji Xiaoxiao first saw the aloof and cold Zhi Shu, she lost her composure. After all, she thought of him as her teacher who had taught her and her parents who controlled her food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. Ji Xiaoxiao chickened out.
At that moment, the Blood-Drinking Wolf, which had been waiting patiently for its chance to attack, made its move. With a leap of its front legs, it opened its blood-red maw and pounced on Dali, who was lying panting to the side.
Ji Xiaoxiao didn't know how high Zhishu's cultivation level was. But she knew perfectly well how useless the lazy woman Dali was. Apart from pretending to be stupid and cute, Dali was good for nothing.
"Dali, watch out, get out of the way!" Dali was just three steps away from Ji Xiaoxiao. The Blood Devouring Wolf was making a huge commotion, and Ji Xiaoxiao instantly caught the Blood Devouring Wolf's intentions.
Picking the tenderest cucumbers and cutting them is a human instinct, a tendency to bully the weak and fear the strong, and also an animal instinct.
Darli seemed stunned, sitting motionless in a daze. Zhishu, however, showed no colleaguely affection, observing coldly from the sidelines, taking out a piece of meat and looking at it with relish.
Ji Xiaoxin was anxious and used her fastest foot speed. Her figure flashed by, and she blocked the Blood-Devouring Wolf's attack with her bare hands, successfully saving a silly bun.
Ji Xiaoxiao felt disappointed and frustrated with Dali.
"Wait, I'll kill this beast, and then I'll deal with you." As for Dali's matter, she'd settle the score later; Ji Xiaoxiao focused on dealing with the Blood-Devouring Wolf.
Seeing the duck that was about to be caught fly away, the Blood-Devouring Wolf opened its mouth and roared at Ji Xiaoxiao a few times. Extremely hungry and furious, the Blood-Devouring Wolf leaped several meters high. From below, it looked like the Blood-Devouring Wolf was using a move called "Suppressing Down from Above," charging straight towards Ji Xiaoxiao.
Ji Xiaoxiao slashed her right foot to the lower right, using it as a center of gravity to support her body. She gathered power in her right hand and struck the Blood-Devouring Wolf squarely in the abdomen. The Blood-Devouring Wolf was sent flying into the air by Ji Xiaoxiao's punch. In a flash, Ji Xiaoxiao moved faster than the Blood-Devouring Wolf, appearing above it in the blink of an eye. She raised her foot high and then brought it down hard, sending the Blood-Devouring Wolf crashing to the ground like a streak of light. As the dust settled, a large crater appeared in the ground.
