Grandchildren are the most important thing; all other superstitions and ghosts have to take a back seat.
"Get ready and finalize things." Qiu Zhuang's heart was bleeding with regret. Why didn't he "marry" her off sooner? The money would definitely have doubled!
Liu Dahua happily agreed, completely unaware that Ji Xiaoxiao had overheard their conversation.
"Thirty thousand yuan, isn't it five hundred?" Ji Xiaoxiao thought.
The original owner sold it for a mere 500, so why did it become 30,000 in her hands? Do they consider inner qualities as well as looks in their transactions?
Ji Xiaoxiao nodded, pleased that they were at least somewhat perceptive.
With a smile, Ji Xiaoxiao thought about it and understood the reasoning behind it.
The original owner was branded a mistress because of Nan Zhu and Lü Zhu's affair. A woman who shamelessly seduces another woman's husband is infamous and has a terrible reputation. Given Qiu Zhuang and Liu Dahua's pride, they might even throw themselves at her.
At worst, they'd lose money. Since some foolish person bought the original owner for 500 silver dollars, Qiu Zhuang and Liu Dahua were just short of burning incense and praying to the gods to get rid of this unlucky god.
"But how did Qiu Zhuang and the others know that I had become unemployed?"
Thinking of this, Ji Xiaoxiao immediately recalled the original owner's experiences in her previous life.
Even if the affair became common knowledge, the original owner never appeared on television or in newspapers. How did the people of Qiu Village, who lived deep in the mountains, find out about the original owner's affairs?
The original owner's hometown was deep in the mountains, with very few means of communicating with the outside world. Only a few people in the small village had cell phones, and there was only one telephone in the small shop.
The original owner didn't know the village's phone number, and her phone only had Qiu Zhuang and Qiu Longzi's numbers saved, but she never told anyone. When the original owner got into trouble, she didn't think of complaining to her parents or brothers, and she endured it all by herself.
Since the original owner didn't speak with Qiu Zhuang and the others, how did Qiu Zhuang know about the original owner's affairs? Qiu Zhuang couldn't possibly have hired someone to observe the original owner all the time and then require the employee to report to him at fixed times, could he?
Ji Xiaoxiao shook her head decisively. Qiu Zhuang was obviously a stingy and miserly person; he wouldn't do such a thing.
The mystery surrounding this is truly unfathomable.
The night is hazy, the moonlight is deep, I am alone, my heart is filled with uncertainty.
"The dog woman" was dragged into the room by Qiu Longzi. Ji Xiaoxiao eavesdropped on Qiu Zhuang and Liu Dahua's conversation for a while, then focused all her attention on "the dog woman".
"Waaaaah..."
The crying was very, very soft; Ji Xiaoxiao probably wouldn't hear it unless she listened very carefully.
"Speak louder, haven't you eaten yet?" Qiu Longzi roared.
"Crack!" The sound of a whip lashing followed.
"Ahhh..." the woman screamed.
The louder the woman cried, the more ferocious the whipping became; the two complemented each other, each stronger than the other.
"I love you, otherwise I wouldn't have fallen for you at first sight. I've been so good to you, buying you and providing for your needs, how can you be so ungrateful as to give me a son? I'm thirty-two this year, and I don't have a son. Do you know how ashamed I am?" Love turned to hate, and the woman couldn't have children. Qiu Longzi was furious with disappointment.
Everyone has their own helplessness, and in a sense, Qiu Longzi is a pitiful person.
Ji Xiaoxiao stood there for a while before pushing the door open and entering.
"What are you doing in here? Get out, or I'll beat you to death." Qiu Longzi shook the whip in his hand. If you're going to do something righteous, you should think twice about your abilities.
Ji Xiaoxiao didn't take it seriously and took in all the furnishings of Qiu Longzi's room at a glance.
The room contained only a large bed and a wardrobe, with the remaining space filled with strange and unusual items such as ropes, branding irons, and sticks.
The windows were tightly shut, the curtains drawn, the room was dark and stagnant, creating a heavy atmosphere. Ji Xiaoxiao's nose twitched; a strange, fishy smell wafted from it.
Ji Xiaoxiao covered her nose and said, "Release them."
"Huh?" Qiu Longzi chuckled. "Are you stupid?"
A woman dared to speak so arrogantly to him, demanding that he release his wife.
"You're asking for death." In a fit of rage, Qiu Longzi lashed out with his whip at Ji Xiaoxiao.
Ji Xiaoxiao dodged the whip like a ghost, her figure flashing past Qiu Longzi's eyes. When she reappeared, Ji Xiaoxiao punched Qiu Longzi in the abdomen. A surge of immense pain overwhelmed him; Qiu Longzi vomited water, his eyes rolled back, and he lost consciousness.
"The dog woman" was tied to the frame by Qiu Longzi. Ji Xiaoxiao untied the ropes. "The dog woman" was covered in wounds and had no strength. Her legs gave way and she fell to the ground with a thud.
After a long while, the "dog woman" recovered and said solemnly, "Thank you."
Ji Xiaoxiao waved her hand, saying it was a trivial matter and not worth mentioning.
The "dog woman" hadn't had a heart-to-heart talk with anyone in a long time, and her words poured out like beans, crying and talking endlessly.
From her, Ji Xiaoxiao learned that the "dog woman" was named Li Shanshan, the only daughter of a wealthy businessman in the big city. After graduating from university, she wanted to broaden her horizons and was traveling alone when she was misled by bad people and trafficked to this remote mountain village.
Li Shanshan refused to admit defeat and had fled multiple times. The villagers helped each other, and whenever they found out that a woman from another family had run away, regardless of whether they had been kind to her or had a grudge against her, they would unite closely and bring Li Shanshan to justice every time.
Even the most resilient person can gradually break down under relentless torment. During her final escape attempt, Li Shanshan was betrayed by a woman suffering the same fate, and after being captured, she gave up all resistance.
Humans can conquer nature? Just accept your fate!
Li Shanshan glanced at Qiu Longzi, then pounced on him, scratching and biting him, as if she wouldn't stop until she had vented all the resentment, anger, and hatred she had accumulated over the years.
