Even now, Zhan Feiyang was not satisfied. He not only blamed her entirely for the child's death but also publicized her murder of her husband. Xu Yu's family was implicated. The once glorious and invincible Zhenguo General's Mansion was ostracized and suppressed by political enemies on the grounds that she was not good at raising her daughter. Within a few years, the Zhenguo General's Mansion collapsed and its descendants scattered.
Having married the wrong person and brought shame upon her family, Xu Qi knew she was gravely guilty. Amidst endless curses and insults, she went on a three-day hunger and thirst strike, ultimately dying.
Ji Xiaoxiao opened her eyes abruptly, her heart filled with surging hatred.
The original owner wanted to save her child, protect her family, and tear Zhan Feiyang to pieces. However, Ji Xiaoxiao arrived too late; the original owner's son had been drowned by Zhan Feiyang three days earlier.
Of the three wishes, one was absolutely impossible to fulfill. Ji Xiaoxiao could only focus on the remaining two wishes, determined to complete them perfectly.
The following day, the late summer heat was unusually mild, the weather was fine, the sun was warm, and it was neither too hot nor too cold.
"Princess Consort, are you awake?" The voice was soft, barely audible.
The maids all knew that the Crown Princess had lost her beloved son, so they dared not speak loudly.
The sun had just begun to peek over the horizon when Ji Xiaoxiao woke up. However, the original owner of this body had been overwhelmed with grief and anxiety lately, and her body was too weak to bear the strain. Even getting up felt exhausting.
"Come in."
Ji Xiaoxiao called the maids in and let them serve her quietly.
Half an hour later, Ji Xiaoxiao was dressed neatly. Looking in the bronze mirror, she realized that clothes really do make the man, and the haggard lady had transformed into a noble princess consort in the blink of an eye.
"Good, not bad." No woman doesn't love beauty, so Ji Xiaoxiao praised the maids.
With a rumbling sound, Ji Xiaoxiao felt her stomach growling with hunger and ordered her maid to bring her breakfast.
The maids in the Prince's mansion were extremely efficient; in no time at all, a feast was laid out on the table.
Ji Xiaoxiao picked up the bowl of white porridge. Six maids stood around her, staring expectantly. Not wanting to be disturbed, Ji Xiaoxiao waved them away.
Five maids were ordered to leave, but one maid remained standing.
Why aren't you leaving?
Ji Xiaoxiao took a sip of porridge, feeling warm all over, and comfortably squinted her eyes.
"Miss, Jixiang has done what you asked." The maid who called herself Jixiang carefully took out a medicine packet the size of a rouge box from her bosom.
Upon hearing the word "auspicious," Ji Xiaoxiao abruptly stopped drinking her porridge.
Ah, Jixiang, so it turns out he's that treacherous lackey who betrayed his master and sold out his own for personal gain.
Jixiang was a maidservant brought from the original owner's maternal family. They grew up together and had a deep bond, which is why the original owner told Jixiang about the assassination attempt on Zhan Feiyang.
The original owner's sincerity and trust were met with ingratitude from Jixiang, who instead betrayed her for personal gain. Not only did she leak the information to Zhan Feiyang, but she also conspired with Zhan Feiyang to scheme against the original owner.
The original owner of this body was a woman with no physical strength; to confront Zhan Feiyang head-on would be like an egg hitting a rock—a suicidal act. Finding this path blocked, she decided to try another: poisoning Zhan Feiyang's food. However, living deep within her mansion, going out to buy poison from a pharmacy was virtually impossible. At this point, only Jixiang, who would never betray her, could lend her a hand.
Upon hearing about the original owner's plight, Jixiang was deeply moved and declared that since she was born a member of the Xu family, she would die a member of the Xu family and would serve the young lady with utmost devotion until her dying breath.
Having suffered a great calamity and lost her beloved son, the original owner finally understood the preciousness of true friends. Jixiang treated her like a sister and a mother, and the original owner would not mistreat her in return. But in the end, the medicine Jixiang gave her was not poison but an aphrodisiac, and the one who fell victim was not Zhan Feiyang but herself.
Aphrodisiac? The original owner didn't want to recall those memories, which were buried deep in darkness.
A traitorous lackey has no value.
Ji Xiaoxiao put down the bowl and asked softly, "Did you buy it?"
"Yes." Jixiang nodded excitedly.
Are you sure it's real medicine?
"The shopkeeper said it's a lethal poison." Jixiang said with a hint of unease.
Ji Xiaoxiao looked at the medicine packet in Ji Xiang's hand and calmly said, "Just because he says it's true, does that mean it really is true? Ji Xiang, would a liar tell you he's a liar?"
Jixiang looked terrified, but forced herself to remain calm and said, "Miss, it's true. How could I dare to lie to you?"
Ji Xiaoxiao smiled and said, "Then you should try some."
Jixiang stared blankly, her eyes wide like saucers. "Miss?"
"Eat it!" Ji Xiaoxiao suddenly shouted. "It's an aphrodisiac anyway, it won't kill you if you eat it."
Jixiang felt utterly devastated. "Miss knows, Miss knows, Miss knows everything."
Ji Xiaoxiao said sadly, "We grew up together, but you betrayed your master for personal gain. I can't afford to use a maid like you."
Ji Xiaoxiao called out towards the door, "Someone, drag Jixiang out and sell her."
When the rough old woman came in and grabbed Jixiang, pulling her towards the door, Jixiang struggled violently, her clothes and hair ornaments in disarray, a sight too gruesome to behold.
"No, you can't sell me. I'm the Crown Prince's man." Jixiang invoked Zhan Feiyang's name to bolster her courage.
The Crown Prince's men?
That's someone you absolutely mustn't mess with!
The old woman immediately released her grip.
