Chapter 258 The Empress Falls in Love with the Crown Prince

Having absorbed the original owner's dull and uninteresting memories, which could be described as a "foolish day trip," Ji Xiaoxiao lay on a chaise lounge, wearing only a thin gauze dress. In the warm sunlight, her skin was as white as porcelain and as smooth as jade. Her slender hands idly played with her shiny black hair at her temples. Her delicate face showed neither sorrow for her misfortune nor resentment for her lack of ambition. Her eyes were lowered and her eyelids drooped, exuding an air of elegance and nobility.

Ji Xiaoxiao reached out her hand, and the palace maid, quick-witted and nimble, helped Ji Xiaoxiao to her feet.

"Suxin, what time is it?" Ji Xiaoxiao sat upright, her beautiful face devoid of any allure, her icy and snow-like temperament naturally revealed.

"Your Majesty, it is 3:45 AM."

The third quarter of the hour of Wei is about 1:30 pm.

The palace maid paused, then bowed her head and said, "Your Highness, would you like to have a meal?"

Ji Xiaoxiao had been focused on absorbing the original owner's memories and hadn't eaten lunch.

It would have been better if she hadn't mentioned it, because the palace maid's words made Ji Xiaoxiao's stomach rumble with hunger.

"Bring some congee and side dishes," Ji Xiaoxiao ordered. The maid gave a wink to the person behind her, signaling him to hurry up and prepare the meal.

Half an hour later, just as Ji Xiaoxiao picked up her silver chopsticks, Su Xin hurriedly came from the front door. A few beads of sweat clung to her pretty face, and her rosy complexion showed that she was eating well.

Su Xin curtsied and said, "Your Majesty, the Crown Prince requests an audience."

Ji Xiaoxiao calmly put down her chopsticks, the clinking sound of metal echoing in the Yanjue Palace. Su Xin, for some reason, felt a sense of foreboding; sweat trickled down her forehead and onto the floor.

"Your Majesty, the sun is blazing, and the Crown Prince has been waiting outside for a long time. Don't you think we should invite him in?" Su Xin subtly revealed that Zheng Jincheng was sunbathing outside. Given the original owner's infatuation with Zheng Jincheng in the past, she should have prepared chilled plum juice by now.

Ji Xiaoxiao wasn't the foolish woman the original owner of. She glanced indifferently at Su Xin, who was bowing her head, and said casually, "Guards, Su Xin has committed insubordination. Drag her away and beat her to death."

Su Xin opened her eyes wide, suddenly raised her head, her stiff body still frozen with a look of disdain.

"Your Majesty, I have served you for over two years. Time reveals true character. You know what kind of person I am. Please do not listen to the words of petty people. My loyalty to you is as clear as the sun and moon." Su Xin knelt down calmly, head held high, as if reciting poetry and songs, her spirit soaring: "I fear not being shattered to pieces, but only wish to leave my innocence in the world. I am innocent."

Her face remained as firm as a rock, but inwardly she was secretly laughing. "Hu Miaotian, one day when my master ascends the throne, I, Su Xin, will repay this humiliation a thousandfold."

Having spent over a decade navigating the treacherous waters of the palace, Su Xin's ability to speak to people in a way that suits them perfectly is unparalleled. When ordinary people encounter her, she betrays them, yet they still happily help her count the money, praising her virtues while shedding tears of gratitude for their good fortune.

Ji Xiaoxiao received the original owner's memories and learned that when the original owner was sentenced to death, it was Su Xin who was serving the poisoned wine. Since Su Xin was a traitor, Ji Xiaoxiao didn't care whether she spoke human language or ghost language; she simply dragged her away and executed her to get it over with quickly and avoid any further complications.

"Drag him away and beat him to death with sticks."

Upon hearing Ji Xiaoxiao's order, the guards outside the door expressionlessly grabbed Su Xin and dragged her out.

"Your Majesty, Your Majesty, please spare my life!"

Dragged away by the guards, Su Xin's heels were scraped raw, and the excruciating pain shattered her usual pride and composure.

"Wait a minute." Ji Xiaoxiao waved her hand.

"Your Majesty." Su Xin's eyes lit up, as if withered trees had come back to life in spring.

"Lanxin, go and summon all the eunuchs and maids of Yanjue Palace."

Lanxin and Suxin were of equal status, both being the original owner's confidantes. Ji Xiaoxiao didn't know if Lanxin was someone else's spy, because Lanxin died on the day Zheng Jincheng ascended the throne.

Ji Xiaoxiao shrugged. If Lanxin is loyal, then use her; if Lanxin betrays her master for personal gain, then kill her.

It was a very simple matter, and Ji Xiaoxiao figured it out instantly.

Lan Xin received the order and Ji Xiaoxiao instructed the guards to press Su Xin down on the open ground in front of the main hall, so that at least the servants of Yanjue Palace would have a place to see Su Xin's fate.

Ji Xiaoxiao really didn't want to worry too much about trivial matters; making an example of someone should be enough.

A moment later, everyone in the Yanjue Palace, from the first-class maids to the slaves who did laundry and cleaning, appeared here, forming a dense circle around Suxin.

Ji Xiaoxiao looked around and said, "Su Xin betrayed her master for personal gain and deserves to die. Today I tell you again, once you enter my Yanjue Palace, you are mine in life and in death. If you are in Cao's camp but your heart is with Han, then don't blame me for being ruthless."

"Hit." Ji Xiaoxiao coldly glared at everyone present.

The guard obeyed the order and struck with the board.

"Clap clap clap..."

A muffled sound gradually spread through the deathly silent and ghostly Yanjue Palace.

"Ahhh..."

At first, Su Xin screamed and cried, tears and snot streaming down her face. As time passed, blood stained her pale blue palace dress. Su Xin weakly moaned, her pretty face turned towards the yellow earth, sweat soaking the ground.

"Mother, what are you up to now?"

Zheng Jincheng waited outside for a long time, but Yanjue Palace did not open its gates. He cursed under his breath, then heard the familiar sound of a pig being slaughtered. Impatient, he climbed over the wall and entered.

"Is this person... Su Xin?" Zheng Jincheng walked in for a look and said uncertainly.

The moment Ji Xiaoxiao saw Zheng Jincheng, a devastating hatred welled up in her heart. Without thinking, she slammed her hand on the table, stood up, walked quickly to Zheng Jincheng, and slapped him across the face.
