"Jin Xin, you are truly my good son."
Ji Xiaoxiao's heart skipped a beat, and then a torrent of pain rushed over her, causing her back to bend and her face to turn deathly pale.
“Mother,” Jin Xin said calmly.
“I, Elizabeth Agnes, have no son like you.”
After the pain subsided, Ji Xiaoxiao was surprisingly calm.
Jin Xin paused, then strolled down the steps as if taking a leisurely walk.
"You can go down now," Jin Xin said to the old man.
The old man responded with a "yes," and as he left the courtyard, he respectfully closed the gate.
"Mother, there is no one else here, only the two of us."
How did you know my exact location?
Ji Xiaoxiao's words hit the nail on the head, making her seem like a heinous butcher with bloody and cruel methods.
Jin Xin didn't seem to care, though his lips turned a little paler.
“I secretly installed a tracking and positioning particle device in my spatial ring.”
“So, from the very beginning, you knew exactly where I was.” Blood seeped through her fingers, and Ji Xiaoxiao’s heart was bleeding too. “No wonder Long Aotian was so fearless. It turns out that you were tipping him off. He knew everything beforehand, so how could he be afraid of me attacking him from behind?”
“Mother, no…” Jin Xin hurriedly tried to explain.
"What do you mean, 'not'? Didn't you tell Long Aotian about my plan? Didn't you cause my failure? Didn't you leave me battered and bruised, like a stray dog, hiding in the streets and alleys of Dixing? Jin Xin, you don't need to deceive yourself anymore."
Jin Xin remained silent and walked to the left side of the courtyard. To the left of the courtyard was a large tree, withered and bare, with dead branches and leaves. Under the tree, a stone table held some medical supplies.
"Mother, your injuries are serious. Let your son bandage you."
Jin Xin sat on a stone bench, holding a treatment device that resembled a pistol in his hand.
“Mother,” Jin Xin sighed, “If I were to hand you over to His Majesty the Emperor, I wouldn’t have risked sending someone to bring you here. Wouldn’t it have been easier to hand you over directly to His Majesty the Emperor and gain his trust in me?”
Jin Xin was right. He was plotting something sinister and harbored malicious intentions. He had the old man shout beforehand, and the Imperial Guards surrounded her from both sides, leaving her no chance to escape.
Ji Xiaoxiao figured it out, walked over, and sat down.
"Phew." With her tense nerves relaxing slightly, Ji Xiaoxiao's expression became much more amiable.
“Mother, please take off your coat.” Jin Xin’s words were completely disrespectful.
Ji Xiaoxiao did not object and readily took off her coat.
"How are Huo Yan and the others?"
“They are fine and safe. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Agnes family should be able to evacuate the Imperial Star with them.” Jin Xin said nothing more.
Jin Xin picked up the healing device on the stone table. The device emitted a warm, milky-white light, and the gruesome wounds gradually healed. Ji Xiaoxiao was deeply surprised and let out a soft "Eh."
"This is the latest therapeutic device developed by the Imperial Star. It stimulates cells to divide and differentiate rapidly... chirp chirp chirp chirp..."
Then, the obscure and dry professional jargon gave Ji Xiaoxiao a headache.
"Alright, no need to keep pushing it. I know it's a million times better than Sacramento's healing device." Ji Xiaoxiao quickly waved her hand to stop the incessant hype.
Jin Xin shut his mouth, focusing intently on the medical equipment information on Ji Xiaoxiao's wound.
One of them was engrossed in his work, while the other remained silent, lost in thought. A cold wind howled through the quiet courtyard, and withered leaves rustled down.
"Alright, Mother, try moving your hands."
After an unknown amount of time, Jin Xin put away the treatment device.
Ji Xiaoxiao tried moving her arm; it was easy and painless, and her injury had healed.
"Thank you," Ji Xiaoxiao said sincerely.
Ji Xiaoxiao's lips curled up at both corners, her subtle smile bright and radiant.
Jin Xin's expression shifted, and he couldn't hide the surprise in his eyes, "Mother..."
“Long Jinxin, you don’t need to call me Mother. I am Elizabeth Agnes. You are a member of the royal family, but going back eight generations, we have no relation whatsoever.”
Ji Xiaoxiao waved her hand, her face showing a clear "I'd rather not" attitude.
Dragon is the surname of the royal family of the Star River Empire, revered by countless people for thousands of years. A hundred years ago, Emperor Long Aotian truly took control of the Star River Empire. After driving out and killing Agnes, he turned his madness towards his own kind.
Jin Xin, Mu Sen, Shui Miao, Huo Yan, and Tu Yao are five brothers born of the same mother. They are all descendants of the Dragon Clan, and their parents were executed by Long Aotian on trumped-up charges.
The five wailing little brats were of no importance, and the vengeful Long Aotian kept them around, claiming that the sins of their parents and wives and children should not be visited upon them. The truth is, if the original owner hadn't risked his life to save them, the five brothers would have perished in the freezing snow long ago.
The original owner did not hide the background of the five brothers. When they turned eighteen, the original owner told them the truth. Whether they left or stayed, whether they hated or resented, whether they lived in seclusion and lived a miserable life, or whether they sought revenge for their parents, the original owner would listen to their wishes and would not interfere.
The five brothers were true men of courage and spirit. They unanimously vowed to follow the original owner, to pave the way for him, to build an everlasting legacy for him, and to avenge their family's past humiliations. Upon hearing this, the original owner wept uncontrollably. Looking at it now, how ironic reality is!
Ji Xiaoxiao was utterly disappointed, but how could Jin Xin fare any better? His heart, which John had once jokingly called "indestructible," was now shattered, its bloody manifestation revealing Jin Xin's fragility.
"Long Jinxin? My mother calls me Long Jinxin?"
My heart, clatter, is broken.
Jin Xin was lost in thought, unaware that a leaf had fallen on his head.
