As the saying goes, fools are sometimes lucky.
As it turns out, there are always exceptions.
Xia Qing's parents died in an accident, leaving behind a three-year-old brother, Xia Xiu.
Xia Xiusheng witnessed the tragic deaths of his parents. At a young age, he was so traumatized that his mind went haywire, and he lived in a daze ever since, unaware of what day it was.
Xia Qing only had Xia Xiu as her family, and she cherished him dearly, almost to the point of protecting and loving him. For Xia Xiu's sake, Xia Qing was even willing to remain unmarried for the rest of her life.
Contrary to her wishes, at the age of thirty-two, Xia Qing met Lin Mu, the man who would cause her lifelong pain. Lin Mu was handsome and charming, the president of a small company, with modest assets. He was thirty-six years old, widowed for three years, and currently single.
Neither Xia Qing nor Hu Linmu was married, and Xia Qing couldn't resist his relentless pursuit, her heart gradually falling for him. However, Xia Qing ultimately didn't agree to marry Linmu. Linmu loved her dearly, and by extension, he treated Xia Xiu with great patience and care, but it was ultimately only temporary.
Lin Mu noticed Xia Qing's embarrassment and timidity, and intentionally or unintentionally revealed that his deceased son looked remarkably like Xia Xiu, and that his pursuit of her was partly due to Xia Xiu. Lin Mu swore to God that he would treat Xia Xiu well for the rest of his life.
With her worries resolved, Xia Qing finally married Lin Mu as she had wished. Their married life was ordinary, yet filled with happiness. Two years later, Xia Qing gave birth to a boy after a difficult pregnancy.
With a husband, a son, and a healthy younger brother, Xia Qing is content with her current life.
The good times didn't last long. Xia Xiu died in an accident, and Lin Mu, who had taken Xia Xiu out to play, was filled with remorse and drank heavily every day. Xia Qing was devastated and neglected to take care of her son, resulting in the two-year-old child falling down the stairs and dying prematurely due to lack of timely medical attention.
The repeated blows overwhelmed Xia Qing, and she nearly suffered a mental breakdown.
Lin Mu didn't want to be reminded of his past love by the sight of familiar objects, so he cleanly and decisively divorced Xia Qing. Xia Qing, knowing she had wronged Lin Mu, chose to leave with nothing and spent her days idly, barely surviving.
After barely managing to hold on for half a year, Xia Qing was restless day and night, unable to eat or sleep, and wanted to end her life. Before taking her own life, Xia Qing wanted to see if Lin Muguan was doing well, but she found a boy of about sixteen years old calling him "Dad".
Xia Qing instinctively felt there was more to the story, so she secretly investigated and uncovered the truth behind her brother Xia Xiu's death. Xia Xiu's death was not an accident at all; it was intentional on Lin Mu's part—Lin Mu had personally killed his brother.
Lin Mu's first wife did indeed perish, but their son lived a good life, though he was born weak and sickly and spent many years in the hospital.
Lin Mu's son was named Lin Dongchao, meaning the rising sun, full of vigor and vitality. However, Lin Dongchao was not blessed with this, suffering from constant illnesses, both major and minor, throughout the year. Six years ago, Lin Dongchao's internal organs began to fail one after another, endangering his life and leaving him with little time left.
To save his poor son, Lin Mu made inquiries from various sources and eventually found Xia Xiu. To secretly replace Xia Xiu's healthy organs, Lin Mu went to great lengths to seduce her, even risking his own life.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Lin Mu succeeded, and his son survived.
Hmph, Lin Dongchao is alive, but what about her innocent younger brother?
Upon learning the truth, Xia Qing immediately reported it to the police and took the case to court, hoping for justice, a chance to clear her name, and avenge herself. However, Xia Qing was powerless and her revenge was ultimately a joke. She failed to bring down Lin Mu, and instead, Lin Mu used the excuse of her mental instability to confine her to a mental hospital. Within a year, she was truly driven insane by the torment.
She desperately protected her younger brother, yet for a fleeting, illusory love, she caused his untimely death. She was blind to his true nature; she deserved to die, but her brother was innocent, and Xia Xiu shouldn't have died. Lin Mu's crimes were unforgivable, yet he lived a carefree and unrestrained life. She was indignant; good deeds are rewarded, and evil deeds are punished. She wanted Lin Mu to receive his just deserts.
"Waaaaah..."
Ji Xiaoxiao rubbed her slightly stinging forehead; the child's cries had woken her up.
Ji Xiaoxiao sat up in bed, still half asleep, and looked around. Then, belatedly realizing what was happening, she rushed out of the room and ran straight towards the source of the crying.
Entering a fairytale-like beautiful room, Ji Xiaoxiao picked up a chubby little child from a small bed, gently held him in her arms, and coaxed him in a sweet voice.
"Don't cry, don't cry, Mommy's here, Mommy's here."
After a while, the child fell into a deep sleep.
Ji Xiaoxiao put the child back on the bed, covered him with the blanket, and gently closed the door.
Exhausted, Ji Xiaoxiao leaned against the wall and slowly slid down.
The original intention was for Xia Xiu and his child to live well, and for Lin Mu to receive his just deserts. For Ji Xiaoxiao, achieving this wish would be effortless. However, after arriving in this world, Ji Xiaoxiao felt inexplicably flustered, as if something major was about to happen.
After resting for half an hour, Ji Xiaoxiao staggered to her feet, glanced at the calendar, and saw that there were still two days left until the original owner's younger brother, Xia Xiu, "died unexpectedly."
Ji Xiaoxiao returned to her room, rummaged around, found the original owner's phone, opened the phone book, and dialed Lin Mu's number.
"Beep beep beep..."
A minute later, a lazy male voice came through the receiver.
"Hey." Lin Mu was half asleep.
Ji Xiaoxiao shouted loudly, intending to wake Lin Mu.
"Xiao Qing, you've been out so late, why are you calling me? What's wrong?"
Ji Xiaoxiao said, "Tomorrow, I want to see Xiaoxiu at home tomorrow."
When it comes to Xia Xiu, Suzuki, you instantly become incredibly energetic.
"Xiao Qing, you miss Xiao Xiu? Don't rush, let's play for a couple more days, and I'll hand Xiao Xiu over to you safe and sound." Lin Mu teased, "What, are you worried that I won't treat Xiao Xiu well? Xiao Qing, don't you know what kind of person I am?"
