Chapter 41 Overbearing Daydreams (Part 1)

The white jade flute was flawless and translucent; it produced sound on its own even without anyone playing it.

As the sound of the flute grew louder, the sonic waves rippled through Ji Xiaoxiao's body, striking her repeatedly. Before long, the blood vessels in Ji Xiaoxiao's body bulged and throbbed like inflated balloons. Some of her weaker constitutions caused her blood to burst, splattering onto the faces of the elusive figures not far away.

Upon seeing Bai Yuxiao, Ji Xiaoxiao knew that the big boss of Riyao—Bai Yuxiao, the Golden-Robed Holy Emperor—had made a grand appearance.

The white-robed saint was a lowly soldier, the red-robed saintly master was a general commanding an army, and the golden-robed saintly emperor must at least be an invincible war god. Comparing the strength of the saints and saintly masters, Ji Xiaoxiao guessed that her current strength was absolutely insufficient compared to the saintly emperor. Moreover, she was severely injured and her power greatly diminished; her strength was far less than before. How could she possibly fight against the saintly emperor at his peak?

As her body swelled and approached its breaking point, Ji Xiaoxiao exploded, shattering into countless pieces, leaving no trace of her body.

On her deathbed, Ji Xiaoxiao did not regret her actions. She had fulfilled the original's demand for blood revenge. As for the paramount task of protecting Xuanyuan Cheng, Ji Xiaoxiao believed that after news of Xuanyuan Yujing's death spread, in order to stabilize the Xuanyuan Dynasty, Xuanyuan Yujing's only son, Xuanyuan Cheng, would rightfully ascend the throne. With the loyal assistance of old ministers like Lin Zisu by her side, Ji Xiaoxiao could rest assured.

"Your Majesty, the Emperor is dead." A red-robed holy master lowered his head slightly and reported respectfully to the man before him.

"I understand. You failed to protect your master. Go and receive your punishment!" The man looked at the bloodstains and broken bones around him, his brows furrowed, clearly in a bad mood.

"But, Your Majesty, the Emperor is dead. What shall we do now?" The red-robed Holy Master expressed his unease and confusion. Their purpose was to protect the Xuanyuan Dynasty and the Xuanyuan Emperor. Without the Emperor, there is no country. Where shall they go from here?

The man chuckled softly, almost imperceptibly, "So what? Doesn't she have a son? It's only natural for a son to follow in his father's footsteps."

"Yes." With a solution in hand, the eight red-robed holy masters willingly went down to receive their punishment.

After the people left, the man stared at the blood-stained ground, clutched his chest, and muttered to himself, "What happened to me?"

I watched quietly for a long time. The thick fog dissipated, the sun rose, but the figure was nowhere to be seen.

In the dark space, the adult in the golden dragon pillar suddenly became angry, and the black aura surrounding him spread around, creating a tangible pressure that made Ji Xiaoxiao unable to stand.

"My lord, you seem very unhappy." Ji Xiaoxiao prostrated herself on the ground, cautiously looking at the person inside the golden dragon pillar. "If there is anything I can do, please give the order. I would gladly go through fire and water for you."

Her skills in flattery and fawning were readily available, and Ji Xiaoxiao always used the most flattering words. In reality, Ji Xiaoxiao was terrified. She was afraid that if she died, the mission would fail, and the master would be furious and throw her into the animal realm, where she would be reborn as a plump sow waiting to be slaughtered.

"No!" Ji Xiaoxiao cried out in her heart.

Her heart was churning with turmoil and confusion, her face pale with panic. Ji Xiaoxiao endured it all, but finally could not bear it any longer. Braving the ever-present danger, she raised her head and asked, "My lord, has my mission failed?"

Whether she dies sooner or later, she's going to die anyway. Since she's about to die, the tough girl Ji Xiaoxiao immediately transforms into a towering hero. "Hey, I'm asking you, speak up! Are you mute or deaf?"

The adult did not reply. The oppressive aura in the dark space was gradually withdrawn. The viscous black mist, like a lapdog, wagged its tail and licked its tongue, and came running back. It looked like a newlywed couple after a short separation, sticking close to the adult, devoted and faithful to him until death.

Ji Xiaoxiao swallowed hard, puffed out her chest, and stubbornly refused to admit defeat. Before the verdict could be reached, a huge white book suddenly appeared, its pages floating in mid-air, moving until it found Ji Xiaoxiao's file.

Name: Ji Xiaoxiao

Gender: Female

Strength: 60

Mental Strength: 80

Progress: 4%

Title: Underachiever

Reward: The White Lotus Sacred Technique

When Ji Xiaoxiao saw that the progress was 4%, she jumped up happily, shaking her head and saying to the master, "Master, I knew I wouldn't fail, I definitely won't let you down. Master, I..."

As her memories slowly returned, Ji Xiaoxiao recalled her boastful words to the adults earlier, and the words she had asked for the gold pillar stuck in her throat.

The space fell silent instantly.

"Why didn't you live a little longer?" The adult was quite adept at gauging the atmosphere, and condescended to speak.

Upon hearing this, Ji Xiaoxiao wondered if the master was implying that she would die young. Although she didn't know why, Ji Xiaoxiao still thought of the master and said considerately, "Master, I will definitely live well next time, live to be a hundred years old, and become an old monster."

"Alright, next time? I don't even know if there will be a next time." The adult seemed somewhat weak and powerless, waved his hand, and Ji Xiaoxiao disappeared on the spot.

"God, why am I so unlucky? Your mother raised you with so much hardship, and you betray me and give away all my savings for my funeral. You do something wrong and you're still sleeping. Do you believe I'll take you to your father and let him discipline you?" The crying was loud and noisy, and Ji Xiaoxiao, who had just experienced a dramatic time-travel experience, was overwhelmed.

Ji Xiaoxiao felt dizzy and lightheaded, and the urge to vomit was growing stronger. Her throat was dry, and she couldn't spit out a drop of saliva. Every breath she took, even the air entering her throat, stung.

After sleeping for a long time in a daze, Ji Xiaoxiao slowly opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was a woman in tattered clothes.
