Master Jingyun held onto Hentian, looked up, and his expression was firm.
"You won't even spare the soul, Nephew Jingyun, do you want to be reduced to ashes and never be reborn?" Hentian said calmly. "Even so, you should know that this will not work on me."
"Your cultivation is profound, and your strength is unfathomable, but I want you to show your true colors."
"You want to...?"
After Master Jingyun finished speaking, he immediately detonated his body and soul. There was no explosive wave. Master Jingyun's self-destruction was extremely calm and unmoved. There was only a dragon and snake totem engraved on Hentian's forehead and that was it.
"【Life and Death Tracking】," Hentian said through gritted teeth, "a forbidden technique of the Mintian lineage."
【Life and Death Tracking】is a spell where the caster sacrifices their own soul to carve a totem signifying "I am a bad person" onto the face of the target. This is generally the last resort for those who know they are doomed and hope that their elders or teachers will avenge them.
"Damn it." Hentian tried every secret technique he could find, but he couldn't remove the dragon and snake totem on his forehead, or even cover it up.
Because of the totem matter, Hentian was delayed for a while. Master Jingyun's master, Elder Mintian, arrived late, accompanied by Elder Liantian and several experts at the Earthly Realm.
"【Life and Death Tracking】." Min Tian immediately noticed the totem on Hen Tian's forehead.
On the way, Elder Mintian sensed something and calculated with his fingers that Daoist Jingyun's life tablet was shattered and his soul lamp was extinguished, meaning that both body and soul had perished. Now, seeing the totem on Hentian's forehead, what could Mintian not understand? His good disciple had risked his life to point out the scoundrels of the Heavenly Dao Palace and restore peace to the world.
...
Ji Xiaoxiao was escorted away from the Nie family by Daoist Jingyun, and floated eastward. Her enemies weren't just Nie Zhen and that servant, but also the mysterious and unpredictable Hentian. As a mere ghost, she was weak and powerless, and even dealing with Nie Zhen was beyond her capabilities. To complete her mission, she needed a powerful ally, and the Litian Dao Palace was undoubtedly the best choice.
After flying for an unknown amount of time, Ji Xiaoxiao felt tired and stopped under a tree.
"Beep beep beep..."
The sound of string and wind instruments drifted from not far away, slowly approaching her.
Ji Xiaoxiao's nose twitched. "Vast spiritual energy, righteous energy, a great being of the righteous path."
With a whoosh, Ji Xiaoxiao disappeared into the tree trunk, concealing her ghostly aura and blending almost perfectly with the tree.
The music grew closer, then stopped by the tree and remained motionless.
"Could it be that they've discovered me?" Ji Xiaoxiao wondered to herself.
She didn't panic or realize she'd given herself away; instead, she remained calm and quiet, like a part of the tree itself.
After a while, the music stopped.
"Aren't you coming out yet?"
It was a deep, pleasant male voice, melodious and magnetic, with a slightly husky tone, and a lazy, languid air, seemingly that of a noble cat who had just finished eating.
Ji Xiaoxiao ignored him; she was hiding in seclusion and shouldn't be discovered.
"Aren't you coming out yet?" The last syllable rose in pitch, carrying a seductive allure.
Ji Xiaoxiao swallowed hard. That person was amazing. A voice almost made her lose control.
"Could it be a nine-tailed fox or some other demon outside?" But that doesn't make sense either; that righteous energy couldn't possibly belong to a demon!
Ji Xiaoxiao emerged from the tree trunk and saw a large sedan chair carried by eighteen men parked a meter away, but there was no one around it. The light gauze of the sedan chair swayed in the wind, and the person sitting inside was vaguely visible.
"Come here." The person in the sedan chair beckoned to Ji Xiaoxiao with a finger, and Ji Xiaoxiao's body floated into the sedan chair uncontrollably.
A man sat in the sedan chair. He had a stunningly handsome face, and his clothes were half-naked, revealing his fair chest.
Ji Xiaoxiao blinked and murmured, "So white, I really want to touch it."
"Awestruck?" He chuckled softly, his starry eyes shimmering, more dazzling than the sun, moon, and stars in the sky.
Ji Xiaoxiao nodded and said, "Yes, this is the first time I have ever seen such a beautiful woman as you."
Everyone has a love for beauty; there's no need to be ashamed to express it.
"Am I pretty?"
"It looks good." Ji Xiaoxiao nodded hurriedly.
"Then will you marry me?"
Ji Xiaoxiao lowered her head slightly, then paused, "What did you say?"
"I saw you nod; you're willing to marry me." The man spoke to himself, his eyes growing even brighter. "Wedding... what do we need to prepare for a wedding? A phoenix coronet and embroidered robe? Dowry and betrothal gifts? A banquet for relatives and friends?"
The man shrugged and said he'd talk about it when he got back; his subordinates would take care of it.
"I'm Rong Tian," the man introduced himself. "And you?"
“Lou Yu,” Ji Xiaoxiao replied naturally.
“Louyu.” Rong Tian savored it for a moment and said, “It’s beautiful. She’s worthy of being my future wife.”
"Now, let's go home!"
Ji Xiaoxiao let out a soft "Eh".

A sharp pain struck, and Nie Zhen vomited saliva, tears welling in her eyes.
"Ancestor!" Nie Zhen exclaimed in surprise.
The visitor was the patriarch of the Nie family, the Supreme Elder Hentian of the Litian Dao Palace.
Hentian was younger than Nie Zhen, dressed in a sky-blue auspicious cloud-patterned ice silk outfit, which made him look clean and neat. His long hair was as black as ink, simply tied up with a white jade hairpin. His ordinary face was plain, but his sharp aura as a superior made people dare not look him in the eye, and even had the urge to prostrate themselves on the ground and kowtow.
Hentian's chest heaved slightly. He had traveled day and night, braving the elements, and even his body, which had withstood the heavenly lightning, was now panting heavily. He was exhausted, but the gains were substantial. He had overheard Mintian and his disciple's conversation and, before the Heavenly Dao Palace could mobilize troops to eliminate demons and protect the righteous path, he arrived at the Nie family ahead of everyone else, cleaning up the mess in time.
