Chapter 63 Apocalyptic Zombies Turn to Good (End)

I was experiencing sleep paralysis, unable to move my body. The mountain of my faith seemed about to collapse, and the unwavering conviction I held dear was shrouded in a thick fog, blurring my vision.

Upon arriving in this world where nine out of ten lives are lost, Ji Xiaoxiao immediately felt a strong sense of unease the moment she met Mo Chenggui. It was as if an invisible hand was constantly changing everything, altering the truth, changing the facts, and changing the glamorous facade of lies and deception that Ji Xiaoxiao could see.

Mo Chenggui needed the "loss" within the original owner's body, and for this, he risked his life by pretending to fall into Lan Yihui and Yang Hui's trap. Then, with the help of Mo Shoucheng's influence, he managed to send the original owner to the research institute. Why did Mo Chenggui choose to involve himself when he could have simply used Mo Shoucheng to send the original owner to the research institute?

Ji Xiaoxiao had dealt with Mo Shoucheng before. Although Mo Shoucheng kept saying that Mo Chenggui was a good-for-nothing, Mo Shoucheng was willing to marry a woman he had never met and whose appearance was only considered pretty, out of respect for Mo Chenggui. Whether their relationship was good or bad was a mystery.

Most importantly, Mo Chenggui's development of self-awareness has absolutely nothing to do with the original owner of this body. From the original owner's memories, Ji Xiaoxiao clearly knows that the "loss" within the original owner's body is the fundamental element that helps induce the evolution of zombies. According to Mo Chenggui, close contact with "loss" and prolonged contact with "loss" can enable zombies to evolve, but the original owner had never met Mo Chenggui before the apocalypse.

"Mo Chenggui, did you really approach me for 'loss'?" Ji Xiaoxiao asked tentatively.

Ji Xiaoxiao stepped forward, lowered her head, and stared intently, her eyes filled with Mo Chenggui's figure. Now, Ji Xiaoxiao could guess the original owner's true wish. A lifetime of deception, a lifetime of ignorance—all the original owner wanted was the truth to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

"Yes, everything I did was for 'loss.' Loss can help evolution, can make me self-aware, and no longer a mindless beast. I don't want to be a beast, what I want is 'loss.'" Mo Chenggui kept proclaiming himself a big bad guy.

"A string of lies." Ji Xiaoxiao automatically came to this conclusion upon hearing this.

Before the apocalypse, the original owner had never met Mo Chenggui. So why did Mo Chenggui suddenly evolve and develop self-awareness during the apocalypse? For a zombie to evolve, it should require prolonged close contact with the original owner's neighbor. The original owner still remembered her neighbor turning into a zombie, baring its fangs and claws, hunting purely on instinct, not showing any intelligence whatsoever. If it wasn't due to prolonged close contact with "zombies," then Mo Chenggui must be hiding something from her.

"Mo Chenggui, you're lying to me. There must be something I don't know about you," Ji Xiaoxiao asked.

Mo Chenggui pursed his lips, turned to look at Ji Xiaoxiao, his eyes flashing with an unknown light, his lips moved slightly, but then fell silent again.

Ji Xiaoxiao was disgusted by Mo Chenggui's hesitant manner. "Mo Chenggui, if you're a man, just be straightforward. Stop dragging your feet and making me anxious."

"If he won't say, let me say it!" The voice came from the elevator, cold and somewhat familiar.

"Mo Shoucheng, what brings you here?" Mo Chenggui stepped forward and questioned Mo Shoucheng, "Have you forgotten our agreement?"

At some unknown time, Mo Shoucheng came to the underground research institute alone.

Mo Shoucheng moved with elegance, his leather shoes clicking loudly on the floor with each step. "I dare not forget, I dare not forget, who doesn't know that when an honest man goes crazy, even the wicked are afraid of him? But, I'm tired of it."

Mo Shoucheng beckoned to Ji Xiaoxiao, "If you want to know the truth, come over here."

Ji Xiaoxiao took a step forward, and Mo Chenggui immediately shouted, "Xiaoxiao, you can't go over there."

The answer was right in front of her. Ji Xiaoxiao had no choice but to go, and her body moved uncontrollably toward Mo Shoucheng.

Mo Shoucheng put his arm around Ji Xiaoxiao and whispered in her ear, "Hey, you know you have 'loss' inside you, right?"

Ji Xiaoxiao nodded, and Mo Shoucheng smiled with satisfaction, "But you probably don't know that Mo Chenggui's body has something similar to 'loss'."

Mo Shoucheng covered Ji Xiaoxiao's mouth from behind with his hand, and said with a smile, "Don't rush, let me explain slowly. The 'zombie' in your body is the culprit that appeared in the apocalypse. However, don't listen to that idiot Mo Chenggui's nonsense. The 'zombie' can't help zombies evolve. Mo Chenggui was able to retain his memories from his previous life entirely because of the 'shattering' inside his body."

"Broken? What's that?" Ji Xiaoxiao escaped from Mo Shoucheng's arms, speechless with shock.

“If ‘loss’ is the culprit that caused the world’s downfall, then ‘shattering’ is the only two antidotes to save the world.” Mo Shoucheng stepped forward and kicked Mo Chenggui, who was still lying on the bed.

Ji Xiaoxiao couldn't interfere with the bickering between the two Mo brothers. As things gradually became clearer, the resentment weighing on Ji Xiaoxiao's heart slowly dissipated. That's right, the original owner's wish was nothing more than to find out the truth.

The "loss" within the original owner's body was removed by researchers and immediately swallowed by Mo Chenggui. Mo Chenggui deliberately provoked the original owner, who miraculously survived. In a life of constant chase, by the time the original owner reached old age, zombies were few and far between. The original owner assumed it was due to the rise of humanity and didn't think much of it. Now that it's Ji Xiaoxiao, everything has become suspicious again.

“If we compare ‘loss’ to poison, then ‘shatter’ is the antidote. As long as one of you takes out the ‘loss’ or ‘shatter’ from your body and ingests it, no new zombies will appear in the future. Even if someone is scratched or bitten by a zombie, as long as the wound heals, everything will be fine.” Mo Shoucheng spoke each word with a piercing edge to Ji Xiaoxiao.
