2. Chapter 2 Unhappy
Xiaoxiao held on to the bamboo basket tightly, a hint of anger in her watery eyes. Seeing that she dared to resist, the boy pushed her hard. The bamboo basket was very heavy, and Xiaoxiao failed to dodge in time and fell directly to the ground.
The mushrooms and wood ears in the bamboo basket were scattered all over the ground, and a few medicinal herbs also fell out. Seeing that there were no fruits, the boys curled their lips in disappointment.
Zhang Xiaoshan crushed the herbs on the ground with his feet. "They are useless. I can't even pick any fruit!"
Xiaoxiao's brother, Zhang Li, was born with six fingers. Due to the closed and backward village and the ignorance of the villagers, many people believed that such children were ominous.
As his younger sister, Xiaoxiao was somewhat implicated. She had several children who always liked to cause trouble for her.
Zhang Xiaoshan was the most arrogant one. After stepping on the herbs, he went on to step on the mushrooms. Xiaoxiao clenched her fists, endured it again and again, and said nothing.
The more she reacted, the more excited the group became. Xiaoxiao had already learned to endure. Sure enough, seeing that she was like a wooden man, Zhang Xiaoshan curled his lips and felt quite bored.
Zhang Ying snorted and pinched her nose tightly as she passed Xiaoxiao. "What bad luck! Why bother with her? Let's go."
She has always been very charismatic. As soon as she left, the other children also left. Zhang Xiaoshan wanted to say something else, but seeing this, he hurriedly chased after them and just made a wait and see gesture to Xiaoxiao.
At this time, the sun had already set, and the sunset glow quietly enveloped the entire village. Every household was cooking. As the smoke rose, Xiaoxiao glanced at her own small kitchen.
Normally at this time, grandma would be cooking, but now she can never see her grandma again.
Xiaoxiao squatted down and picked up the mushrooms and trampled herbs one by one, and her eyes turned red unconsciously.
She twisted her ankle when she fell just now, and it was a little painful when she walked, so she limped back home.
She not only missed her grandmother, but also her brother. She wondered if he would be ostracized on the battlefield. Xiaoxiao didn't calm down until she put the mushrooms and fungus in the kitchen.
When Xiaoxiao saw the clothes drying in the yard, she remembered that there was another person at home. She washed her face and forced herself to cheer up.
The light in the room was very dim. Xiaoxiao lit a candle and walked closer to the man. Afraid that he would get hot, she reached out and touched his forehead.
As soon as Xiaoxiao's little hand with thin calluses touched the man's forehead, he pinched her neck.
His hands were as fast as lightning. Xiaoxiao didn't even see how he made the move before she was controlled by the man and her body fell uncontrollably onto the bed.
Xiaoxiao's twisted ankle hit the bedpost, and the pain made her eyes misty, and the clothes in her arms fell to the ground.
She reached out to pry the man's hand away.
Pei Xiuhan had just regained consciousness. He instinctively grabbed the man's vitals, but after grabbing him, he realized that the neck under his palm was a little too thin.
He frowned, and after slowly opening his eyes, he was faced with a small face the size of a palm.
The little girl looked to be no more than ten years old. Her delicate face was flushed red, and her black eyes were filled with moisture. She looked weak and pitiful.
Pei Xiuhan frowned and subconsciously let go of his hand.
Xiaoxiao held her neck and coughed a few times.
Pei Xiuhan glanced around calmly, only then realizing that he was lying on the bed.
The room was very small. Apart from a bed, a table and a small wooden box, it was so shabby that it didn't look like a residence.
When Xiaoxiao recovered, she was met with the man's cold and scrutinizing gaze.
His eyes were like knives. Although he was obviously too handsome, when he looked at people coldly, it made people's backs cold. But being scrutinized by him in such a light and neither heavy nor light manner, Xiaoxiao's scalp tightened and she felt a little scared. She finally realized that the person she saved was not a good person.
She was already in a bad mood, and now she was being treated like this by him, she was also a little angry. She picked up the clothes that the man had dropped on the ground and threw them directly at him, "You are repaying kindness with enmity."
The little girl was angry, and her voice was filled with tears because of pain and fear.
Pei Xiuhan was stunned for a moment, then quickly grabbed the clothes. He had already seen that she had no martial arts skills, so she naturally couldn't be a killer. Guessing that she had saved him, Pei Xiuhan coughed softly and said in a hoarse voice, "Sorry."
He mistook her for an assassin and didn't mean to hurt her.
Xiaoxiao's neck hurt a lot, and the feeling of being on the verge of death made her feel alert. When she saw him apologize, she was slightly stunned again.
Many children in the village had bullied her, but no one had ever apologized to her. This apology made Xiaoxiao feel that he was not so scary anymore.
She sniffed and said muffledly, "It's okay."
Pei Xiu Han sat up, but he had no feeling in his legs. He frowned and didn't pay attention to his legs. Obviously, he was more concerned about something else than his legs.
When he sat up, the thin blanket slipped down to his waist. A cool breeze blew over him, and goose bumps appeared on his arms.
Only then did he realize that he was not wearing any clothes. Not only was he not wearing any underwear, but his pants had also been stripped off. He was left with only his underwear.
The clothes the little girl had just thrown to him were actually his.
He quickly picked up his robe and put it on. His eyes darkened as he looked at Xiaoxiao. His handsome face turned pale and blue before he finally fixed his gaze on her. He spoke in a tone that was neither too strong nor too soft, "Kid, you're quite brave."
Xiaoxiao had never expected that he would suddenly sit up. When she accidentally glanced at his body, she panicked and quickly covered her eyes.
Even with her eyes closed, she could still feel the man's piercing gaze. She hurriedly explained, "You, you have a fever, and your clothes are wet, so I helped you take them off!"
This was the first time in Pei Xiuhan's life that someone had stripped his pants off. Even though he was covered with a thin blanket and the other person was just a little girl who hadn't even grown all her hair yet, he still felt upset.
Seeing her covering her eyes with her hands, not daring to even look, he sneered and said gloomily, "Go out first."
Xiaoxiao's cheeks flushed red, she said "oh" and ran out quickly, and her little figure soon disappeared at the door.
Xiaoxiao ran all the way to the small kitchen, and her pounding heart gradually calmed down. Her feet were a little sore from running just now.
Xiaoxiao paused for a while before starting to cook dinner.
When she was alone and felt hungry at night, she would just bear it and let it go. She knew that her husband must be hungry, so Xiaoxiao cooked for him.
There was no oil at home, so she didn't cook any vegetables. Instead, she made a pot of salty soup, which contained not only black fungus and shiitake mushrooms, but also some small green vegetables she grew herself.
Thinking that the man had just woken up and his spleen and stomach must be weak, Xiaoxiao steamed the steamed buns again. After the hard buns became soft, she put out the firewood.
When she walked into the room with the food, the man had already put on his clothes.
Pei Xiuhan had just finished checking his body when he lost feeling in both legs. The assassins from the enemy country and the betrayal of his personal soldiers left him vulnerable from both sides.
They fought for nearly an hour, and he killed dozens of people alone. The two secret guards suffered more injuries than him. In the end, they died in front of him one after another due to exhaustion.
While fighting with the last assassin, they rolled down the cliff. Pei Xiuhan broke his neck and broke both of his legs. He originally wanted to leave as soon as possible, but now he could only lean against the head of the bed.
He had lived for more than twenty years and had always killed any god he met, but this was the first time he had fallen into such a situation. He looked towards the direction of the capital, and a creepy murderous aura emanated from his whole body.
Only when he saw the little girl did he look away.
He leaned against the head of the bed, his crimson robe making him look exceptionally noble, and his face was so handsome that it seemed as if one look at it would make one fall in love with him.
Xiaoxiao felt a little nervous for no reason and hurriedly lowered her eyelashes, not daring to look any further. She carefully held the bowl and placed it on the table. The bowl was filled with hot soup, very hot. After setting the bowl down, Xiaoxiao quickly blew on her fingers and said softly, "I've made dinner, come down and have some."
Pei Xiuhan then swept the food on the table. There was a big bowl of soup with all kinds of messy vegetables in it, and the steamed buns were also black.
Pei Xiuhan has always lived a life of luxury and had never eaten such food. Even the horses at home eat better than this.
Seeing him looking at the food on the table with disgust, Xiaoxiao realized something belatedly.
Her cheeks were burning, and she whispered, her hands unconsciously twisted together, "There's nothing good at home. If you don't have an appetite, I, I..."
Xiaoxiao said "I" twice in a row but couldn't come up with any good idea. She had no money and had no way to get him anything delicious.
Pei Xiu Han then glanced at her. The little girl was extremely embarrassed. There was a barely perceptible inferiority in her bright watery eyes. Not only was her little face flushed, but her fair and delicate ears were also flushed, like a freshly cooked crayfish.
Pei Xiuhan actually had no appetite at all. He always did what he wanted. Even if he was living under someone else's roof, he would not force himself. When he met the embarrassed look of the little girl.
Pei Xiuhan inexplicably felt guilty for bullying a child. He clicked his tongue and knocked on the bed, "Bring it here."
He was always concise and to the point. Seeing the little girl staring at him blankly, he added lightly, "My leg is broken, I can't move."
Xiaoxiao exclaimed in surprise, and then she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that he didn't dislike the food. When she handed the bowl and chopsticks to the man, Xiaoxiao couldn't help but glance at his legs.
The meal was really dull. Pei Xiuhan reluctantly took two bites and then refused to eat anymore. When he looked up, his eyes happened to sweep across the little girl's bowl of food.
In order to save candles, Xiaoxiao did not go to her brother's house, but ate directly at the table. Her bowl was filled with watery soup with only a few mushrooms floating in it, and only half of the steamed bun was left.
Despite this, she ate with great relish, even reaching out to catch the crumbs that fell from the steamed bun.
Seeing her cheeks bulging with food, Pei Xiuhan looked down at the vegetables in the bowl and inexplicably felt more hungry, so he reluctantly finished the vegetables in the bowl.
He hadn't eaten for two days, and while eating, he felt hungry. He drank up the soup with the black steamed bun without realizing it.
Xiaoxiao finished clearing the dishes before she hesitated and said, "I, I don't have any money. I can't afford a doctor. What are you going to do with your leg?"
Pei Xiuhan was listless. "Why hire a doctor? If you don't want to get yourself killed, don't tell anyone about my whereabouts."
Xiaoxiao nodded in a daze. Thinking of the knife wound on his abdomen, she panicked for a moment, then vaguely realized something and her face turned pale.
Pei Xiuhan glanced at her calmly and leaned against the headboard. "I'll leave before I get you into trouble."
His voice was cold and his face was pale due to excessive blood loss. He looked a little sick as he leaned against the headboard, and he was inexplicably weak and looked a little listless.
Xiaoxiao blushed at what he said. His legs were broken, how could he walk? Xiaoxiao stammered, "I, I don't want to drive you away. You can stay wherever you want."
He is still so young. If he doesn't get treatment and his leg is broken, it would be such a pity. Xiaoxiao thought about it and said seriously, "When I make some money, I will find a doctor to teach me how to set bones. You just wait."
Xiaoxiao was a child picked up by her grandmother. If it weren't for her grandmother, she would have died long ago. She was raised by her grandmother and has a very soft heart. Now, she regards his legs as her own responsibility.
Pei Xiuhan was quite surprised to see the worry in the little girl's eyes. He casually replied, "I can set bones. Just help me find a suitable splint tomorrow."
Xiaoxiao nodded in surprise. She talked about making money, but in reality, money wasn't easy to come by. After her grandmother left, she only exchanged herbs and vegetables for a few dozen copper coins.
Xiaoxiao was really afraid of hurting his legs.
Seeing that he could set bones, she breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't dare disturb his rest. After placing his porcelain bottle on the bed, she said, "You should go to bed early."
After she finished speaking, she left, leaving Pei Xiu Han sitting stiffly on the bed.
He glanced at his legs irritably, clicked his tongue, and regretted drinking the soup.
